Meditation on Vishwaguruji

A guided meditation on performing mental worship for the Guru.

Visualize the Guru's arrival and offering reverence. Individually approach to worship the Guru's feet with water, sandalwood, and vermilion. Perform the mantra āratī with specific circles of light. Offer a mental flower garland and then receive it back as a blessing, merging with the Guru's essence. Perform prostrations and seek forgiveness for all mistakes. Offer food and then partake in the blessed meal together. Offer dakṣiṇā and receive a final blessing as the Guru enters the heart as a divine light. The mantra "Oṁ Sohaṁ Saguṇa Brahma..." is chanted on the mālā. This specific mālā, worn smooth from years of use, has a lineage. It was received from a Śaṅkarācārya and was later gifted personally. This blessing is now shared with all.

"Without asking for anything, he gives you everything."

"I am always with you, and you are always with me."

We are seated in this beautiful hall. Gurudeva now walks through those doors. Observe his graceful gait as he passes through the doorway onto the ramp. He walks toward his seat at the altar, offers praṇām to Śrī Mahāprabhujī, then to Auligurujī, Alakpurujī, and Devapurījī. He then comes forward gracefully and sits upon his seat. With a gesture of his hands, he blesses everyone and indicates for all to be seated. His beautiful, graceful eyes look toward each one of you. He smiles. We each individually approach and touch his lotus feet, performing the Pādukā Pūjā. As Sadhvi Sāvitrījī sings the Guru Paduka Stotra, we offer the Jalābhiṣeka, pouring water on his lotus feet. We take the pūjā thālī, dip our ring finger into the candana and kuṅkum, and apply it first to his right toe, then make three lines on his feet. We apply three lines of candana on his forehead and then the Śrī, the mark of Lakṣmī, at the center of the Ājñā Cakra. While Avtar Purī sings: "Namah Kamalanābhāya, Namaste Jalāśayine, Namaste Keśavānanta Vāsudeva. Namo stu te Śaṅkaram Śaṅkarācāryam Keśavam Vādārāyaṇam Sūtrabhāṣyakṛtam vande Bhagavantaṁ punaḥ punaḥ." Now we light the dīpak on the plate. We will perform the Mantra Āratī for Gurudeva: five circles at the lotus feet, three at the center of the body, once at the head, and seven times for the entire body. Mantra-mūlaṁ guru-vākyaṁ, ukṣa-mūlaṁ guru-kṛpā. Akhaṇḍa-maṇḍalākāraṁ vyāptaṁ yena cara-carām, Tat-padaṁ darśitaṁ yena tasmai śrī-gurave namaḥ. Mannātha śrī jagannātha, mad-guru śrī jagad-guru. We then take water in the spoon, circle the āratī flame three times, and offer the āratī to Gurudeva and then to everyone. Next is the flower garland. In this Mānasika Pūjā, it can be as large, beautiful, and mesmerizing as you can possibly imagine. After offering this beautiful garland around Gurudeva's neck—and as we are all performing this mental worship, we each have our own individual garlands—now imagine Gurudeva taking that beautiful garland from his own neck and placing it upon yours. He places his hand on your head, his thumb upon your forehead. No transactions, no thoughts; simply become one with the Guru Tattva. Without asking for anything, he gives you everything. Then, slowly, you make daṇḍavat praṇām to him. You rise and perform three circles, a parikramā, around yourself or around Gurudeva, as you wish. Then, you cross your hands and hold your ears. This is an act of asking forgiveness for anything we have done, knowingly or unknowingly. If we have committed any mistakes or wrongdoings, we pray, "Please, Gurudeva, forgive us." If tears come, let them flow. It is a river; let it flow. Feel the energy. Feel the beautiful atmosphere. Feel the presence of Gurudeva, both within you and before you. We have all brought offerings from our homes. We now offer them and feed him with our own hands. After Gurudeva finishes his food, he gives you that Mahāprasāda. Anything he has touched or eaten becomes Mahāprasāda itself. You begin to take it, but Gurudeva says, "No, sit here and eat with me." He looks at you gracefully, smiling, as you eat. After we bring the bowl for him to wash his hands, we offer Dakṣiṇā to Gurudeva while making praṇām. He then blesses us, places his hands on our shoulders, and lifts us up. He gives us everything and then slowly vanishes, residing and going inside your heart as a divine light. Before going to reside in the heart, he says, "I am always with you, and you are always with me." Now, take your mālā, as this is also the occasion of Mahāprabhujī's Mahāsamādhi. On this mālā of Gurudeva, the mantra chanted most often is: "Oṁ Sohaṁ Saguṇa Brahma Śrīdīp Paripūraṇa Nārāyaṇāya Namaḥ." We will do one round of this mālā, for it has been blessed by this mantra for years and years. Oṁ Sohaṁ Saguṇa Brahma Śrīdīp Paripūraṇa Nārāyaṇāya Namaḥ. Oṁ Sohaṁ Saguṇa Brahma Śrīdīp Paripūraṇa Nārāyaṇāya Namaḥ. Oṁ Sohaṁ Saguṇa Brahma Śrīdīp Paripūraṇa Nārāyaṇāya Namaḥ. Oṁ Sohaṁ Saguṇa Brahma Śrīdīp Paripūraṇa Nārāyaṇāya Namaḥ. Oṁ Sohaṁ Saguṇa Brahma Śrīdīp Paripūraṇa Nārāyaṇāya Namaḥ. Oṁ Sohaṁ Saguṇa Brahma Śrīdīp Paripūraṇa Nārāyaṇāya Namaḥ. Oṁ Sohaṁ Saguṇa Brahma Śrīdīp Paripūraṇa Nārāyaṇāya Namaḥ. Oṁ Sohaṁ Saguṇa Brahma Śrīdīp Paripūraṇa Nārāyaṇāya Namaḥ. Oṁ Sohaṁ Saguṇa Brahma Śrīdīp Paripūraṇa Nārāyaṇāya Namaḥ. Oṁ Sohaṁ Saguṇa Brahma Śrīdīp Paripūraṇa Nārāyaṇāya Namaḥ. Oṁ Sohaṁ Saguṇa Brahma Śrīdīp Paripūraṇa Nārāyaṇāya Namaḥ. Oṁ Sohaṁ Saguṇa Brahma Śrīdīp Paripūraṇa Nārāyaṇāya Namaḥ. Oṁ Sohaṁ Saguṇa Brahma Śrīdīp Paripūraṇa Nārāyaṇāya Namaḥ. Oṁ Sohaṁ Saguṇa Brahma Śrīdīp Paripūraṇa Nārāyaṇāya Namaḥ. Oṁ Sohaṁ Saguṇa Brahma Śrīdīp Paripūraṇa Nārāyaṇāya Namaḥ. Oṁ Sohaṁ Saguṇa Brahma Śrīdīp Paripūraṇa Nārāyaṇāya Namaḥ. Oṁ Sohaṁ Saguṇa Brahma Śrīdīp Paripūraṇa Nārāyaṇāya Namaḥ. Oṁ Sohaṁ Saguṇa Brahma Śrīdīp Paripūraṇa Nārāyaṇāya Namaḥ. Oṁ Sohaṁ Saguṇa Brahma Śrīdīp Paripūraṇa Nārāyaṇāya Namaḥ. Oṁ Sohaṁ Saguṇa Brahma Śrīdīp Paripūraṇa Nārāyaṇāya Namaḥ. Oṁ Sohaṁ Saguṇa Brahma Śrīdīp Paripūraṇa Nārāyaṇāya Namaḥ. Oṁ Sohaṁ Saguṇa Brahma Śrīdīp Paripūraṇa Nārāyaṇāya Namaḥ. Oṁ Sohaṁ Saguṇa Brahma Śrīdīp Paripūraṇa Nārāyaṇāya Namaḥ. Oṁ Śāntiḥ Śāntiḥ... Nāhaṁ kartā Prabhudeepa kartā Mahābhudeepa tāhi Alaṁ śānti, śānti, śānti. Oṁ Śālopurījī Mahādeva kī jaya, Devādideva Devaśvara Mahādeva kī jaya, Śrādip Nārāyaṇa Bhagavān kī jaya, Hindu Dharma Samrāṭ Paramahaṁsa. Oṁ Niśri Mādhava Anantapūr Jī Sadgurudeva Bhagavān Kī Jai, Viśva Guru Mahāmaṇḍaleśvara Paramahaṁsa Oṁ Niśri Maheśvara Anantapūr Jī Gurudeva Kī Jai. Āj Kī Ānanda Kī Jai. Sab Santṛṣṭa Nirmalātmāoṁ Kī Jai. Madhupita Gurudeva Kī Jai. Āj Kī Ānanda Kī Jai. Sad Sanātana Dharma Kī Jai. Do you know what is special about this? So many years of tapasyā that you can no longer see the mukhas (faces) on the mālā beads; they have been worn smooth from extensive use. Another thing: Swāmījī once showed me that you can hear the seeds inside this mālā. In normal mālās, you don't hear the seeds, but in this one, you do. He went, I believe, to Śṛṅgeri, which is one of the four maṭhas of Śaṅkarācārya. In the north is Jyotirmaṭha, in the south Śṛṅgerīmaṭha, in the west Dvārakā, and in the east Jagannātha Purī. Śṛṅgerīmaṭha was the oldest and first, where Jagadguru Bhāratī Tīrthajī Mahārāj resided. Viśvagurujī received the mālā from him. I also had the opportunity to have his darśana with Jasurjī and Prem Nanjī, around 2006-2007, I don't remember exactly. He did not receive a mantra from him; he received the mālā. The mantra he received from Holy Gurujī. Essentially, that Śaṅkarācārya gave this mālā to Gurujī. Swāmījī was still young, traveling with him. Holy Gurujī said, "I already have the mālā from Mahāprabhujī, but you take this as your mālā now." That is how Swāmījī received it. On Viśvagurujī's last visit to Europe, in Vienna, we were in his room in the morning. He always kept it under his pillow every night. In the morning, as he was getting ready, I took it and said, "Here." He took it in his hand, looked at it, and then said, "To your mother." I said, "No, no, it is yours." And he insisted, "No, no, it is yours." That is how I was blessed with this mālā. I always had a wish—you know, we all want to hold on to something, some memories. May we all have health, life, and God's grace, and may Gurudeva live as long as possible. But my wish was that afterwards, I wanted this mālā. So Gurudeva has already blessed me with it. That is all I need; nothing else. It is the greatest gift. Anyone can receive such a gift, and that is why I felt it should be shared with everyone. That is why we have recharged your mālās. I wish you all a wonderful time. See you very soon, somewhere, sometime. Much love to everyone. Many blessings from Gurudeva. See you either in Zagreb, Ljubljana, India, Fiji, New Zealand, Australia, or back here. Oṁ Śāntiḥ, Śāntiḥ... Sadgurudeva Bhagavān Kī Jai, Viśvaguru Mahāmaṇḍaleśvara Paramahaṁsvāmī, Śrī Maheśvara Anantapūrījī Gurudeva Kī Jai, Apsara Bhaktoṁ Kī Jai, Hari Oṁ.
