States of consciousness
The reality is the unchanging consciousness that witnesses all states of change. We transition through waking, dreaming, and deep sleep, yet the knower of these states remains. That inner self is the only constant reality, while the worlds of dream and waking are not. The individual, unaware of this true self, suffers and searches endlessly, like a boat tossed on waves. We collect experiences and relations in this physical life, but these are temporary. When the inner self journeys on, those relations fade in memory. All phenomena, individual and cosmic, operate on principles of balance. Imbalance causes suffering and disturbance. Yoga is the divine power that maintains this universal equilibrium.
"The reality is this: the one who knows both, who is present in both types... that self never sleeps."
"Yoga is that energy... that principle, that power, that consciousness which keeps the balance in the universe."
