God, maya, reality

God is immanent in all creation, and this world is the play of Māyā.

The divine presence is within everything. Do not destroy God's work without necessity. Respect all creatures; nourish them, but do not consume them. This living world is illuminated by divine light. The Lord is the source of Māyā and knowledge. With His light, one can perceive reality even within this delusion. Māyā is like mistaking mother-of-pearl for silver. Saṃsāra is this state of confusion, where reality and unreality are inverted. It is compared to a dream, where suffering feels real until one awakens. Beings within Saṃsāra still live through God's sustenance, though the experience itself is ultimately unreal.

"Without Him, not even a blade of grass can grow."

"This world is compared to a dream. What we see now, after a few minutes, it will be like a dream—it is gone."

God is everywhere. God is in everything. Without Him, not even a blade of grass can grow. In everywhere, in everything, is God. Bhagavān hī hai. Therefore, do not destroy God’s work. Do not cut things unnecessarily. Do not kill animals. They are all God’s creatures. Respect them, love them, feed them. Do not eat them. Therefore, respect the work of God. Do not destroy the plants. Do not eat the animals; nourish them, but do not eat them. In summary, do not destroy the divine creation without any need. Do not cut anything without need. Do not kill animals. Respect them, love them, feed them, but do not eat them. This world is illuminated. This world is living. This world is living through the light of Rāma. We are the illuminated, and the Illuminator is distinct. It is that light of God. He is the Lord of Māyā and Jñāna, the source of all guṇas (qualities). Through His help and through His light, even in this moha (delusion), in ignorance, you can see the reality within this Māyā. With His help, with His light, even in this fog, even in this unconsciousness, you can perceive the reality. It is like seeing silver in a mother-of-pearl shell. It shines beautifully, and we think it is silver. You can collect the shells, but you cannot obtain any silver. Though there is no silver, we see it as silver. That is Māyā. We see in the sunlight, as if there is water shimmering on the ground. Without rain, there is no water there. This unreality pervades all the three worlds. But still, these doubts, this confusion, cannot be removed. This is Saṃsāra. This is Saṃsāra. We see reality in unreality, and we see unreality in reality. We see reality in non-reality and non-reality in reality. What is existing appears as not existing. And what is not existing appears as an existing phenomenon, a conflict. Again, this Saṃsāra exists in duality. But likewise, the people in Saṃsāra are living through the source of God, through the help of God. People who live within Saṃsāra live through God. Though Saṃsāra is unreality, and we know it gives us trouble and struggle, you feel that Saṃsāra itself is also unreal. Tulsīdāsa gives an example: in a dream, someone cuts your head, and you suffer. This suffering can only be removed when you wake up. When you wake up, there is no one who has cut your head. Your head remains perfectly on your body. Therefore, this world is compared to a dream. What we see now, after a few minutes, it will be like a dream—it is gone. So, what is constantly changing is not reality. Who knows, perhaps we are just dreaming now. We are all sitting here in a dream. That is it. Saṃsāra is like a dream.
