explanation of bhajan HAT CHOR MANA

Consciousness calls the mind to abandon stubbornness and discover the inner Self. The conscious principle within instructs the wandering mind to cease its laziness and external pursuits. True happiness is not found in the changing world but within, by turning inward. One should always seek the Master's presence to remove doubts, mentally connecting beyond physical distance. The body is a case of five elements housing the true Self, the divine swan. Worldly attachments, including family, cannot grant Self-knowledge and instead deepen worldly bondage. Forgetting God for material gain or greed leads to suffering and falsehood. Awaken from ignorance to realize the endless, formless reality already within you.

"Give up your haṭha (stubborn self-will). Come with me, and I will show you the secret of the Ātmā."

"O my mind, give up the haṭha and come with me. I will show you the Ātmā."

Filming location: Strilky, Czech Republic

This is a very beautiful bhajan composed by Mahāprabhujī. Its subject is the same one we have been dealing with all week. It says: "Hāt chod manā, chal saṅg mere, toj ātam bhed batāvat he." It is saying to the mind, "Mind, give up your haṭha (stubborn self-will). Come with me, and I will show you the secret of the Ātmā." Who is saying this to whom? Your own Self, your consciousness, or your cetanā—let us say your cetanā. Cetanā means that which is conscious within you. It is saying to your mind: "Do not be lazy. Do not run here and there. Come with me. I will show you the Ātmā. Then you will be happy, so very happy. In this ever-changing world, there is no happiness. So give up your will." For what are you fighting here in this world? Come, come with me. I will take you there and show you the Ātmā. Give up your haṭha. Come with me. I will show you the Ātmā. You should always go to the Master. Then all your doubts will be removed. So whenever you have time to concentrate or meditate, feel the nearness of the Master. After the seminar, when you go home, of course you have to work in this worldly atmosphere where different situations always arise. Whenever you want peace and a peaceful atmosphere, just close your eyes and feel that we are here together. That is why I told you this afternoon: let us just sit and enjoy this nature and this atmosphere. You should take this beautiful picture into your consciousness, like an artist or painter who looks at nature and then paints everything. So, though you may be physically far away, mentally you can be together. "Tum jāye raho guru ke caraṇame"—go to the Master. All your doubts will then be removed. This case of the body is made out of five elements. And within this case, the swan is living inside. The swan lives within this case made of five elements. The swan means the Ātmā, your own Self. You yourself are that beautiful swan. Mother and father, all the relatives—they will not help you attain ātmajñāna (Self-knowledge). They will only sink you deeper into the worldly ocean. Why have you lost your knowledge? Why have you made your heart so hard? Are you not ashamed about it? You will be sorry for that one day. Do not close your heart toward God. For the sake of a few material things, a little māyā, you have forgotten God. You know, that is a big problem in business. Just from a little greed for money, one forgets God and begins to lie and lie. The greatest liar is the businessman. If a businessman does not lie, the business will not run. And when a person is lying, at that time he or she has forgotten God. Just for a little thing, you forgot God? What a shame. We should not forget God. Now, wake up from this ignorance. I will show you your Self, your form, your reality. I will show you that divine One for whom the yogīs meditate. That One is endless, immeasurable—you cannot measure It. That formless One is within your body. Why are you suffering so much and searching outside? It is within you. I met my perfect Master, Śrī Devpurījī, and Swāmījī, and he showed me that divine darśan, the divine Self. O my mind, give up the haṭha and come with me. I will show you the Ātmā. Siddhipna and Bhagavān. Siddhipna and Bhagavān.
