Hard times in life

Life is a sacred gift to be protected, not a burden to escape. Feelings of loneliness and being unloved are destructive thoughts, not truth. Problems and karma follow you; you cannot run from them. Your life does not depend on others' opinions. Past mistakes arise from ignorance or weakness, but they do not justify ending this divine gift. Accept what has happened. Do not suffer or die from shame. For difficult karmas, use prayer, mantra, and the spiritual path. Sorrow is removed through words of love and wisdom. Change your thinking. Your mind creates both trouble and happiness. Face your karmic relations as your dharma; escaping them creates more negative karma. Accept and go through what you must.

"God has given this life. This life is very holy."

"Sorrows can be removed only through words: words of love, words of wisdom, and words of kindness."

In human life, certain times arrive—particular situations and circumstances—when one feels somehow lost and lonely. One may think, "There is nobody here who loves me. No one likes me." This is not true. Your friends, parents, acquaintances, and colleagues love you more than you love them. If there is a little fighting or some arguments, that belongs to the nature of human society. What harms us is our own thinking. When we think in that way, those are very destructive thoughts. The most destructive thoughts are those where one thinks of one’s own life as a burden—a burden to oneself or a burden for others. When one thinks like that, darkness appears in the consciousness of the person. The person thinks, "There is nothing for me here." Then, unfortunately, some thoughts may come, like the desire to pass away, to go away from this world. But one can never run away from problems. Problems will follow you wherever you are. Karmas will follow you wherever you go. God has given this life. This life is very holy. It is a very secret, divine life. We shall do our best to save our life and protect our life. Even if you have made a big mistake and now think, "My God, what will people say?"—does your life depend on someone’s saying? If someone tells me something or writes something bad about me, will I decide to die? No. It means that I am not able to digest my life situation. My ego is too strong, so I cannot face my humiliation. Do not depend on others’ commentary. Whatever you have done, you did it out of ignorance, out of your weakness, out of uncontrolled feelings, or some influences. But it does not mean that you should be so sad now and say, "I don’t want to live anymore." One should take life—life given by God—as very holy. In medicine, doctors are taught to do their best to save a life. It doesn’t matter who is who. When you go for treatment, a doctor will never think that you are of this religion or that religion, or that you are a white person, a black person, Asian, African, or Chinese. No. Whether your body is dirty or clean, a doctor has his or her dharma to help the person become free of pain and to do their best to give treatment or perform an operation to save a life. Even if you were not nice to the doctor, perhaps you are like an enemy to him, in the treatment the doctor will not make dualities. Similarly, whatever has happened through your being here in this world, accept it. Don’t die because of this. Don’t suffer because of this. But when you remember those karmas, you may become scared of them, especially if there are some worse karmas. For that, we have prayer. We have mantra. We have our spiritual path. We have our Master. Therefore, it is said in one bhajan: "O Master, I came to Thee. Please remove my sorrows." How does a Master remove sorrows? Sorrow is not a material thing. Pain is not a material thing; you can’t see it, you can’t touch it, but it is there. So sorrows can be removed only through words: words of love, words of wisdom, and words of kindness. Life is divine. Life is holy. God has given this life, and every life is holy. If God has given life to someone, we should respect it. Nothing happens without God’s will, and that is His will—that everything happens here. If you have depression, some psychic problems, or a feeling of loneliness, it is your thinking. Change the way of thinking. It is our mind which gives us trouble, and it is our mind which gives us happiness. Of course, nothing is forever lasting. It is very hard for us to understand the cosmic law. We don’t understand the cosmic law, and we don’t understand the karmic law: the karmic relation. If we escape from these karmic relations, then it means we don’t follow our dharma. And when you don’t follow dharma, you create negative karma again. So try to understand. Change your thinking, accept whatever happens, and go through what you have to go through. Like in this bhajan: "Lord, the real happiness is found in your presence. For that, even I have to go through fire and walk on thorns. Even I have to leave the country. Even death becomes the garland of my neck. But Lord, let me be with you. I am Thine. I am Thine." And lucky are they who realize their karmic dharma. And wait, fulfillment will come.
