Prayer

A spiritual discourse on the nature of prayer and divine perception.

"God doesn't see this. He sees what is in your heart now, in this minute, when you pray to Him."

"If one of you can purify in this weekend only one in such a quality, then all who are sitting in this room can be liberated."

Swami speaks to an assembly about how God perceives the true quality of a devotee's heart, beyond social status or outward piety. He emphasizes that divine response depends on the purity of love and intention in the moment of prayer, not on lengthy or selfish requests. He challenges attendees to purify their hearts, suggesting that even one person's sincere transformation could have a profound collective impact, while candidly acknowledging the difficulty of such purity.

In this world, within the Vedas, and in the nature of the true Swāmīs and the good Lord, it is their inherent quality that when they listen to the request of their devotee, they immediately realize and recognize the love of that person. What kind of love is there? You see, many times when we pray to God, we say, "Why doesn't God help me? I was praying for so long." We pray, "God should protect my grandmother," but she dies. God knows why you are praying and what kind of selfishness you have there. Even a human being can see in your eyes what you are talking about and what your expectations are. So He doesn't want tricks; He wants love. The prayer should come from the heart. But what is inside the heart? If there is doubt, if there is jealousy, if there is anger, if there is something which is not in order, then these things come out. So God knows what is in your heart. There is a quality; God needs the quality, and therefore He realizes immediately what your expectation is. God has no dualities. Whether you are a rich person or a poor one, whether you are unlearned or you are learned, whether you are coming from the jungle or from the city, whether you are a good person or a bad person—God doesn't see this. He sees what is in your heart now, in this minute, when you pray to Him. He sees with which quality you are praying. He sees what you have in your heart in that moment. And that quality can then be changed. So it means, don't give up your hope; we have a great chance. What? We have a great chance to fall down or come up. Freedom depends on you. It is you who can hold it or you who can lose it. Still, it is not too late. It takes very little time. It is said it takes the time of just closing your eyes and opening them, what they call in German Augenblick. We need only just such an Augenblick, such a second, but that should be of great divine quality. So we are waiting for those seconds. Therefore, God needs pure love. And you have that; that is another good thing. You have that pure love, and you can do it. But you don't follow the Guru Vākya; you don't listen to me. You say, "Oh, Swāmījī is always telling such things." We can do it. We will tell him, "Sorry, Swāmījī, it was not like that." But the consequences, the fruits are there, which you will suffer. Purify, purify, purify. If one of you can purify in this weekend only one in such a quality, then all who are sitting in this room can be liberated. That's today my—I don't like challenge, but challenge. And that one will be a mortal, holy person. So it can be that some of you will be. I don't know. On Friday or Saturday evening we will know. So whose heart is completely pure like the sun shining? Hope and less. You know what it means, hopeless? There's less hope. There's not enough hope in it. But still, you have time; try. But consequences, fruits are there, which you will suffer. Purify, purify, purify. If one of you can purify in this weekend only one in such a quality, then all who are sitting in this room can be liberated. That's today my—I don't like challenge, but challenge.
