How do you get up?

A morning satsang on aligning daily life with spiritual realization.

"What I perceive in my meditation, I aspire to become one with. That is the sun, the ātmā. That Parampuruṣa is yourself."

"How much of your daily life aligns with the instruction of the ṛṣis? How do you rise? What do you do upon waking?"

The speaker guides an inquiry into spiritual practice, questioning how one's daily actions and thoughts from waking onward align with the ancient Vedic instruction to realize "I am Thy Self." He critiques waking with anger, sadness, or emptiness, advising humility and endurance in the face of life's challenges, and concludes that disobedience to divine instruction stems from a lack of love and an excess of ego.

What I perceive in my meditation, I aspire to become one with. That is the sun, the ātmā. That is Parampuruṣa, the Supreme One, and that Parampuruṣa is yourself. I know that I am also that one. I am the same Self. Likewise, the Bhakta, the ṛṣi, advises his devotees. Consider what the ṛṣis are doing, what the yogīs are doing. Now ask yourself: how much do you enact each day according to this idea, this instruction of the ṛṣis, in your life? How much of your daily life aligns with the instruction of the ṛṣis? How do you rise? What do you do upon waking? Where do you go when you leave your bed? How do you touch water and how do you use it? What thoughts occupy you as you wash? How do you eat and drink? How do you walk and greet all that you see? How do you send your thoughts and feelings into this world, this universe? How do you work? What thoughts dominate your mind each day? Do not rise angry. Do not rise sad. Do not wake with desires. Do not wake with emptiness. Do not be empty and do not feel loneliness. As you open your eyes in the morning and see the light, it is as if you are wrapped in this light like a mother wraps a small child in a towel. We are cared for by the Supreme One. But what transpires in your mind? Are you angry? Are you feeling empty? Are you jealous? Are you sad? Do you harbor ego? Do you feel forced to do something? All this is not good for you, and it is not your true self. That is your ignorance. When many problems arise, you should become humble. When a strong wind comes, the tree bends more. If the tree does not bend, it will break. There must be flexibility. So, how much flexibility do you possess? Endure, endure, endure. Nothing can harm you. This endurance will grant you more strength, more love, more satisfaction, and bring you closer to your goal. Try. So, how do you wake each morning? What are you thinking when you rise? "God, I wake again. I am still alive. The same problems. The same things. Again I must go to the kitchen and make my coffee, and the same toast or the same dahlia." There are people who think like this. "Again I must wash. Again I must catch the bus." There are people like this. Unlucky. I would say they are the unlucky ones. They are very poor. May God grant them right knowledge. Therefore, it is said: "I am Thy Self." Show Him, "I am that," and "I am." I know this, but I have not realized it. Either Your love is too strong, or my love is not strong enough. Your commands, Your instructions—I cannot follow them, my Lord. And you know, for me, to disobey Your instructions is to run from my path. Disobeying Your world's vākyās, for me, is a descent of my spirituality, not an ascent. You disobey because you lack that love. You still possess much ego, so much ego that you do not understand. We do not understand what God wills, or why it is like this. Well, it is like that. Why that answer? No one can answer you. Only you can answer yourself. And that answer will come after a long, long time. And that time can become very long indeed if you are not able to follow the instructions. Recording location: Czech Republic, Strilky, Summer seminar
