Climate changes

Life requires the balanced harmony of all elements, which is yoga; disharmony brings destruction. Global warming signifies elemental disarray, altering both climate and human mentality, threatening health and the planet. Strict global laws must protect nature, as the sages foretold. Yoga creates balance by recognizing the divine presence within all elements. Everything is holy; losing this respect led to pollution. The power animating existence is not ours but belongs to the One in all. We must accept this universal truth and return to the wisdom of the sages to end conflict and preserve life.

"Life cannot exist on this planet if there is no fire element."

"Yoga means balance—to create balance."

Filming location: Strilky, Czech Republic

Let us consider one element: the element of fire. Life cannot exist on this planet if there is no fire element. Life cannot exist if there is no water element. Similarly, life cannot exist if there is no air element. Among these elements, there must be harmony and balance. This balancing principle is what I always call yoga. And that is the very beginning, the origin. Disharmony means destruction. It means illnesses, nemoc. It means quarreling, hádky. Therefore, there should be harmony in the elements. The problem we face now is global warming. It is one of the greatest issues of our time. Consider the Himalayas, those great and lofty mountains. In one part of the Himalayas, there is a mountain called Amarnath. 'Amarnath' means 'immortal'. 'Nath' is God—the giver, the protector. It is a name of Śiva. At the peak of this mountain, there is a cave in the form of a temple. There is snow, and a Śiva Liṅga is formed naturally from the ice. For only about three weeks or one month can people visit, before everything is covered again in ice and snow. Historically, for the first time in recent days, it is said that this Śiva Liṅgam has melted. This is not good news. These are changes in the climate. It signifies that the elements are now falling into disarray. Such climate changes are altering the human mental climate as well. Everything has been transformed through the human mental climate, affecting our daily lives, our health, and who knows what will become of this planet? What kind of destruction will take place? I believe it is high time for the whole world to enact very strict laws, stricter even than drug laws. When you deal with drugs, it is a criminal act. At Singapore airport, before immigration, it is written: if drugs are found, there will be immediate crucifixion—a death sentence without negotiation, without lawyers, nothing. Similarly, some strict rules must be established worldwide to protect nature, trees, and animals. It is profoundly sad how the climate is changing and how life is affected, with new illnesses emerging. The ṛṣis have already foretold what could or will happen. Thus, yoga means balance—to create balance. In this way, we understand: if we cannot live without water, then water is like God for us. We cannot live without God. So what can be greater than water? God. God Himself is in the water. It is very important to know this. Therefore, it is said that everything is holy. As long as humans believed water was holy, they did not pollute it. But as soon as modern education arrived and humanity became selfish, ceasing to respect nature, we began polluting the water. In every religion, water is holy. You enter a church, there is holy water—what we call Charanāmṛt. This term comes from Caraṇāmṛta. So water, air—all are vitally important. The Śakti within them is God Himself. Thus, the ṛṣis are trying to indicate or explain to us indirectly that this energy, this power you possess, is not yours. You are not even the maker of it. It belongs to someone else. Consider this microphone, the loudspeaker, the tape recorder, this video camera, and this ventilator—they all function only because of electricity. If the power goes off, all these instruments will cease to function. We must understand that power. That is God, the Almighty One. That is the only One, and that One is in all, and all are in that One. We must accept this truth: in every culture, every tradition, and every religion, we are speaking of the same God. Then why do we fight? For what do we fight? To destroy ourselves, to destroy our future generations, and to destroy the planet. Therefore, we must return once more to the Ṛṣi Kula, the age of the sages. There is no other way. Sooner or later, we have to come to that.
