Sweetness of God's Name

The divine name is a sweetness that grants immortality, freely given. God listens to all prayers. Saints are incarnations of divinity, moving among us like diamonds mistaken for glass, coming by free will to serve. Humans are lost in greed for power, which causes all conflict—war, terrorism, pollution. Peace is not a destination but the path itself; we must be the change we wish to see. The earth satisfies need, not greed. God exists in every heart, so who is there to hate? Lasting peace requires overcoming ignorance, which breeds fear, then aggression, depression, and hate. Children need love and education to foster cultural acceptance, for a society follows its youth.

"If there is sweet, then it should be such a sweet which makes us immortal."

"The Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed."

Oṁ manasukhadam kevalam itam gaganasadṛśyam smasyādilakṣyam ekam nityam vimalāchalam sarvadhisākṣibhūtam bhavātītam triguṇarahitam satgurutam namāmyam. Sarve bhavantu sukhinaḥ, sarve santu nirāmayāḥ, sarve bhadrāṇi paśyantu. Salutations to the Cosmic Light, Lord of our hearts, Omniscient and Omnipresent. In his divine presence, my dear brothers and sisters, very good evening. Today began with a beautiful constellation. Bhagavān Bhāskara, the Sūrya, the sun, rises with millions of bright lights and radiance. Our Sūrya Bhāskara has sent millions of its rays to the earth, illuminating the entire world and our consciousness. That illumination brought us together today. What a beautiful thing has happened. This evening is a glorious evening, that we have gathered here in such large numbers in front of the culture house. We remembered God in our own language with different names. The love of God is indescribable. The beauty of his divinity is indescribable. And God has given this to us free of charge. Be sure that our prayers are registered by God. He listens to our prayers very carefully. In this series of prayers, one of our brothers said one sentence: "Madhuram." Madhu means honey. Madhu means the sweet. Madhuram means the sweetest of the sweet. That is the sweet love of God. He is in the beauty of His creation. In His name there is a sweetness—a sweetness which our tongue still does not know. When we taste that sweetness, all other worldly sweets will be nothing. One saint said, "If there is sweet, then it should be such a sweet which makes us immortal." It removes our mind from desires. "If there is something sour, then it should be such a sourness that it spoils the milk." It means it removes our senses from selfish desires and blesses us with immortality. That is the name of God. What is very interesting is that it does not cost us any money to speak the name of God. You can say Allāh, you can say Holy Father, you can say Kṛṣṇa, you can say Mahāprabhujī, you can say Buddha, and you can say any saint’s name. It is said God incarnates from time to time in different forms, and He incarnates in the forms of the saints. You know who Rāma was? A householder. Married, had children. But he was the incarnation. The difference between incarnation and birth is like this example: There is a prison. Two men are in the prison now. One is a worker who is working in the prison, and one is a guilty prisoner. Both are in the same room, under the same ceiling, under the same roof. In the same prison, people who see from outside think, "Oh, there are two in the prison," but the reality is different. One came into the prison as a guilty prisoner. The other came into the prison of his own free will to serve and to help. Similarly, holy saints are the incarnation of His divinity. But we do not know them. We think they are normal human beings like us—eating, sleeping, talking, and walking. Yes, they look the same. But you know, there is a difference between a diamond and glass. Only the goldsmith knows what the diamond is. We do not know. We may buy a piece of glass as an expensive diamond. So the saints are holy pilgrims; they are mobile holy places. God is never far from us. It is only that we do not believe, we do not trust. Humans are greedy to become powerful and to have power, and that is wrong. The message was read by our sister from St. Matthew, saying that wars are created in order to have power. We are learning only to take; we are not learning to give. And now is the time to change this. Recently, we had a world peace conference in Vienna. This was an international conference on world peace and the message of Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi said there is no way to peace; peace is the way. Our world is threatened by war, fighting, terrorism, violence, racism, the torturing of animals, environmental pollution, shortage of drinking water, social and religious discrimination, as well as recent civil conflicts, wars, and terrorist events. All these have made humans frightened, and humans feel lost in a world without peace. But Gandhījī said, "Be the change you want to see." Now we are sitting here, and we had a peace prayer. We had songs, and we all wished for something. What do we want? Gandhījī said, be the change you want to see. We want to see peace. We want to see happiness. We want to see a happy world. Then we have to change. We have to awaken the compassion in our heart. We have to change ourselves inwardly, and we have to limit our needs. Therefore, Gandhi said again, "The Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs. Mother Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed." When there is greed in this world, then come the wars. There are different kinds of greed: individual, sensual greed; then the ego—to have property, power, "my religion." Religious people are involved in this kind of greed: "My religion, my religion." Kings: "My territory, my land." So, you know why wars are there? Because there is greed. But we know that God is in everyone, existing. Yes, God exists in everyone. Every living creature is representing the light of God. So Gandhi said again, "If God resides in every heart, who dares to hate whom?" That is something very important, and it is a very great thing that we have to realize. Such conferences are needed in the world. That is very, very important. We had this conference in Vienna, Austria. There were people from forty-five different countries taking part, and eight different religions were participating. It was very successful. Therefore, this evening was dedicated to world peace. Our prayers, God will definitely listen. Definitely, God is with us, and I am very happy that you are here. Now, our second subject: our subject is youth, our children. It is said that a country will go in that direction in which its children are going. Children are the culture of tomorrow. What do children need? Children need love. Children need education. Recently, I was attending a conference; I was invited to the Council of Europe. There were about 150 people, mostly religious people, because now even middle Europe has realized that without religious harmony and accepting other cultures, we cannot achieve peace. There, one person was talking about a very interesting thing: Why are wars going on, and why don’t we accept other cultures? Because we are in ignorance. We have no knowledge, and since there is a fear, and where there is fear, there is aggressivity. If you cannot express your aggression, then you fall into depression, and that depression will create in you hate, and again the conflicts will come. It does not matter even if you are a student of a university, an academic; still there is ignorance. You may be a professor of some language, but still there is ignorance, and that ignorance is about other cultures. As long as we will not accept other cultures, harmony and peace will not be there. So this ignorance means that our children do not know about different cultures.
