Peace

Śānti is peace, harmony, balance, and happiness. It is absent when the body is ill, a household member is unhappy, or even a pet is restless. Śānti depends on the peace of the entire interconnected system, just as a nation's peace depends on global harmony. The universe's system mirrors that of Earth. The ancient prayer calls for peace throughout the universe, the atmosphere, all planets, and on Earth itself. Chanting "Śānti" creates a vibration that releases tension from the head, relaxes the heart, and eases stomach cramps. This practice brings peace to the heart, aiding in decision-making.

"Oṃ Dho Śānti Rantarikṣam. The first prayer is, 'Merciful Lord, maintain the peace in the universe, in the space.'"

"Feel this vibration. It will be chanted like this: Oṃ Śānti."

Filming location: Ljubljana, Slovenia

Where there is peace, where there is harmony, where there is balance, where there is happiness—there is Śānti. If our body is ill and there is pain somewhere, we have no Śānti. If someone in our house is unhappy, we have no more Śānti. If our dog or cat is restless, we have no more Śānti. So on what does our Śānti depend? And if there is Śānti, then we will have Śānti in our heart too. First of all: Oṃ Dho Śānti Rantarikṣam. The first prayer is, "Merciful Lord, maintain the peace in the universe, in the space." We are existing, we are living on our particular, this one beautiful planet. But this planet is not an independent planet. This planet is not independent. This planet has different kinds of influences from other planets. Slovenia is a peaceful, beautiful, independent country. But still, we have to maintain and have influences from other countries, maintaining good relations with them. If there are wars all over the world, do you think Slovenia will be peaceful? No. And if the whole world is peaceful, Slovenia will also be peaceful; you need not be afraid. So the system that is in the universe is also on this earth. Lord, bless our entire universe with peace in the atmosphere, in the whole universe, all planets, all visible and invisible elements, and the principles in this universe. So there should be peace: Oṃ Dhyo Śānti Rāntarikṣaṃ Śānti Pṛthvī Śānti Rāpa Śānti. And Lord, Merciful Lord, peace should be on this earth. In the Vedas, which we have written for more than 8,000 years perhaps, it is said: peace on the earth. At that time, maybe here in this part of the world, there was ice. Śānti, śānti. I would like to make one experiment. We all chant three times, "Śānti, śānti, śānti," and feel how you feel during this chanting. You close your eyes. Don’t be in a hurry. And chant with me. First, I will demonstrate how, and then you join me. But try to feel that vibration which creates peace in your whole individual phenomenon. You will feel towards your brain, in your head, that kind of tension is releasing. And if you have a problem with your heart, you will feel that your heart is getting relaxed; there is no more pressure on it. And if you have some problem with the stomach, or a cramp in your stomach, you will feel it will be released. Feel this vibration. It will be chanted like this: Oṃ Śānti. If you have any difficulties in life, or you have to take some very important decisions in your life, you sit for meditation for a few minutes and you chant a few times. For a few minutes, this Oṃ Śānti, you will feel that you have peace in your heart.
