Cause of suffering
We suffer from a cycle of forgotten causes. We experience suffering as a reaction to a past action we no longer remember. Each reaction then becomes a new action, creating further reactions. We are lost, unable to distinguish if our present state is an original cause or a mere effect. This incomprehensible suffering always has a reason, but its root cause is not immediately knowable. That deep, original cause lies far behind any apparent reason. No external person can provide this answer. The discovery of the primal cause is an internal process. It is only through turning inward in meditation that this truth can be uncovered. The Self alone can trace the chain back to its source.
"Every action has a reaction. We have forgotten the original action and do not understand the reaction we now experience."
"Only the Self, through meditation, can discover what that original cause might be."
