World Peace Forum 2003 - Father Frank Brennan
Our fractured world demands we rebuild relationships and peace from a place of shared spiritual and collective action.
We acknowledge our shared place only through genuine connection with Indigenous peoples. Our relationships lack meaning without this context. Even simple family interactions require a foundation of love to avoid conflict. Today, our individual and collective worlds are fractured, and our sense of centeredness is lost. Some invoke the same God for opposing causes, revealing deep divisions. Our political order is now uncertain, moving beyond the Cold War framework. We have entered an era where war is no longer treated as a last resort, and the UN's role is diminished. Our domestic politics exploit fear of the 'other,' selling us short. Compared to similar nations, our choices on peace and refugees differ starkly. The old vessel for international peace is shattered; we must shape a new one. This requires spiritual energy and collective action, finding hope even in dark places.
"Peace can only be in our hands if it is realistically in our hearts and in our minds."
"The pottery vase which used to hold international world peace has now been shattered and a new one is yet to be shaped and designed. That is a task which is our task."
