World Peace Forum 2003 - Monsignor David Cappo
Authentic dialogue is the essential path to peace in a world of conflict and division. We gather to reflect on peace while war causes global anxiety. We must ask if responding to threats with violence repeats history's mistakes. The survival of humanity is at stake. Our role is to unite, pray, and encourage leaders to seek peace through negotiation. I fear many leaders misunderstand true dialogue. Authentic dialogue requires clarity from the heart, speaking truth to invite truthful response. It requires meekness, which is peaceful, patient, and generous, purging prejudice. It requires trust, built through genuine relationships seeking the common good. It requires prudence, adapting to understand other cultures and sensitivities. We must plead for this authentic dialogue between nations. We must move hearts, not just satisfy reason, to achieve peace.
"Dialogue marked by meekness 'is not proud, it is not bitter, it is not offensive... It is patient. It is generous.'"
"if you want something really important to be done, you must not merely satisfy the reason, you must move the heart also."
