How to make your exam successful?

A discourse on the goddess Sarasvatī and her role alongside Gaṇeśa.

"Sarasvatī should be, and is, the goddess of all students."

"Gaṇeśa represents the buddhi, the intellect. And the wisdom of that intellect is Sarasvatī; she is the light of that intellect."

The speaker explains the importance of Sarasvatī as the patron goddess of students, knowledge, and expression, advising prayers to her for success in exams and creative endeavors. The talk clarifies the divine partnership between Gaṇeśa (intellect) and Sarasvatī (wisdom), and positions her as an equal consort to Brahmā, countering any notion of male spiritual supremacy.

Recording location: Hungary, Vep, summer seminar

Sarasvatī is the iṣṭadevatā, the personal goddess of all students. When you go for an examination, you should pray to Sarasvatī before you go; you will be successful. When you have a writing examination, pray to her, "Please sit in my pen." And when we have a verbal examination, then say, "Please sit on my tongue." Thus, Sarasvatī should reside in the heart, in the Āgyā Chakra, and on the tongue. There is a beautiful prayer to Mother Sarasvatī. You see, some ladies always have a complex, a feeling that "we ladies are nothing." Always the spiritual Gurū is portrayed as a man. Always God is portrayed as a man. It seems they are always praying to men; that is not true. Even men cannot be successful without her. That is Mother Sarasvatī. Therefore, Sarasvatī should be, and is, the goddess of all students. When anyone is speaking, giving a lecture, singing, or writing a book, they first bow down to Sarasvatī. The first offering is to Gaṇeśa, Namaḥ; first is Gaṇeśa, then Sarasvatī. If someone sings, gives a lecture, or writes a book, then immediately after invoking Gaṇeśa, they turn to Sarasvatī. No one can overtake Gaṇeśa; he is a very quick child. He may look like he weighs many kilos, but God, do not try to overtake him. Gaṇeśa is the most beautiful God; he is most gracious and most protective. Gaṇeśa represents the buddhi, the intellect. And the wisdom of that intellect is Sarasvatī; she is the light of that intellect. So you have to trust your intellect before you do anything. Your abilities are your protection; if the intellect becomes negative, it becomes destructive. Thus, Sarasvatī is a great divine being. Sarasvatī is the companion of Brahmā, the creator. Lakṣmī is with Viṣṇu; Śiva is with Pārvatī—Śiva and Śakti. And Brahmā and Sarasvatī are equal. Not one is less and another more; they are the same. It is not about one being superior to the other.
