Khatu Pranam

A discourse on the benefits and practice of the yoga sequence Khatu Praṇām.

"Practicing three to four rounds of Khatu Praṇām brings immense relief from fatigue, stress, and stiffness."

"Khatu Praṇām creates harmony in the body, harmony in the mind, and harmony of the soul."

Swami Maheshwarananda describes the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits of the Khatu Praṇām sequence he designed. He shares anecdotal reports of its effects on the immune system and energy levels, recounts a student who cherished it, and prescribes a daily practice. He contrasts it with Sūrya Namaskāra and explains its positive influence on the chakras and digestive system.

In the development of Yoga in Daily Life over the last twenty years, the offerings and adoration go to Khatu because of Mahāprabhujī. It is His divine energy that provides protection and guidance. Among the many yoga exercises and postures, I designed one particular series called Khatu Praṇām. Research has been conducted on it. Just last weekend in Vép, Hungary, some people reported that practicing Khatu Praṇām has improved their immune system. After long, tiring days of work, when you come home, practicing three to four rounds of Khatu Praṇām brings immense relief from fatigue, stress, and stiffness. You will feel a regeneration in the body, a renewed motivation, and a new stream of energy will flow. I pray to Mahāprabhujī to bless these postures. Many of you may remember one of our dear yoga brothers, Viṣṇupurī. He was among the first Croatians to meet me in Yugoslavia, and his favorite exercise was Khatu Praṇām. He even printed a beautiful chart of it. Khatu Praṇām creates harmony in the body, harmony in the mind, and harmony of the soul. It creates balance, making it very, very important. You should practice a minimum of five rounds every day. Those who practice know what it means. There is also a similar exercise called Sūrya Namaskāra, but there is a day and night difference between Sūrya Namaskāra and Khatu Praṇām. Khatu Praṇām has an effect on every chakra, including the Sahasrāra chakra. It has a very good effect on the digestive system and on the psyche, owing to the Yoga Mudrā within the Śaṅkāsana and Vajrāsana postures. We shall analyze each posture. It is beautifully designed with dynamic movement and a stretching effect. The postures affect the breath, influence our chakras, and stimulate their function. Therefore, Khatu Praṇām should be part of your everyday program. You can do it in the morning, but I also suggest doing it in the evening after work, especially when you feel tired. When you feel exhausted and are searching for coffee or chocolates but find none, try Khatu Praṇām. It will replace your coffee and chocolates, and offer much more. It has physical, mental, and spiritual benefits, and it will motivate you to continue your yoga life. Recording location: Croatia, Cakovec
