What is the bindu chakra?

The Bindu Chakra is a center at the crown of the head that produces ambrosia. It is seen as a whorl in the hair. This center supports longevity and memory, developed through specific yoga practices. The nectar it yields is not a conventional sweetness; its taste is different, akin to enlightenment. Enlightenment is the light of wisdom, not physical sight. This ambrosia exists as minute drops, yet its radiance is potent. Its awakening corresponds to the divine vibration generated within.

"I enter into the vegetation as the nectar, the sweetness through the moonlight."

"Enlightenment does not mean you close your eyes and see a great deal of light, as you see with open eyes now."

The Bindu Chakra is located at the top of the head. It is not precisely a chakra in the typical sense; it is a center that produces what is called ambrosia. Some refer to it as the Chandra Chakra, because Lord Kṛṣṇa said in the Bhagavad Gītā: "I enter into the vegetation as the nectar, the sweetness through the moonlight." The Bindu Chakra is located here, at the crown of the head. When you have very short hair, you can see a kind of whorl, a turning pattern there. That whorl emanates from the Bindu Chakra. This chakra helps us to live long, supports our memory, and its benefits are primarily received through yoga kriyās. The development of the Bindu Chakra is accomplished mainly through Yoga Kriyās: Viparīta Karanī Mudrā, Chalanda Bandha, Khecarī Mudrā, and Kriyā Yoga. Through these practices, that ambrosia can be attained. Now, that nectar, that ambrosia, is not necessarily sugar-sweet. It must not be honey-sweet. It is a different kind of sweetness. Perhaps it is even a bit bitter, yet what you perceive as bitter is not truly bitter. It is a different taste, akin to enlightenment. Enlightenment does not mean you close your eyes and see a great deal of light, as you see with open eyes now. Although there is a technique to see exactly as you do now with closed eyes—where you can even drive a car with closed eyes by operating the pupils and lenses placed not inside the eye but on the eyelids, a foldable system allowing you to see everything whether eyes are open or closed—the light of wisdom, which is called enlightenment, is that light, not this physical light we perceive. Thus, that ambrosia, the divine ambrosia, has a completely other taste. Generally, there are seven different tastes, and ambrosia is above those, so it is very hard to know. It is not like a full spoon; it is very few drops, like a drop of honey. Only its radiance touches you sufficiently, similar to homeopathy, where from one drop of an essence they can make one hundred gallons of medicine. The more vibration you create—as much as you sing, as much mantra you chant, as much divine vibration you generate in your body—that is the awakening of the ambrosia. For more detail, you can read in our book, our chakra book. You can read the rest in my book, Chakra.
