Vigyan Deep Gita

The holy book's name reveals its essence: Vijñāna is the specific science of the Self, Dīpa is the inner light, and Gītā is the song of that glory. This song connects one to immortal truth. Unlike fleeting worldly pleasures, the truth within holy books is eternal and unchanging. Reading these immortal words always opens new perspectives, offering fresh insight with each encounter. The same essential truth appears across all holy scriptures, though cultural expressions may vary. These words are nectar, uniting the seeker with supreme reality.

"Whenever you read [a true holy book], you can gain more knowledge or new knowledge."

"These holy words are known as Amar Vākya, Immortal Words... because they unite and connect us with reality."

Filming location: Vép, Hungary

Our holy book is called the Vijñāna Dīpa Gītā. The name itself holds profound meaning, which we will explore further in the chapters. Literally, Vijñāna means science. Vigyan is knowledge, and Vigyan is a special, specific knowledge about particular things. Gyāna is general knowledge, while Vigyan is a specialized form of knowledge pertaining to a certain object. Dīpa is the light, the flame. Without light, life cannot exist. Our own Self is also that light—the eternal light, the eternal soul. Gītā, as you know, is a song. It is a song of glory. When you sing the glory of the Divine, the glory of that divine light, the glory of that science—the science of the Ātmā—the glory of Gurudeva, Slava Gurudeva. This glory has been spoken of before in various Upaniṣads and Vedas. Mahāprabhujī is enlightening us with some of that. Through this Gītā, we can now understand who Mahāprabhujī was, or who Mahāprabhujī is. Many different Gītās exist. There is also the very famous Bhagavad Gītā, which is itself the essence of the Upaniṣads, compiled in a perfect way. The truth is that whenever you read [a true holy book], you can gain more knowledge or new knowledge. No matter how many times you read it, your knowledge will not be lost. This is unlike unhealthy food, fast food, and so on. With such food, the first bite is tasty, but when you chew it long, it becomes unpleasant. When you eat unhealthy food, the first impression is of taste, but upon chewing, it becomes all the more unpleasant. This is the difference between reality and unreality. In the holy books, the truth is written. You can open any holy book to a chapter, perhaps even the same page or chapter every day, and every day it will open a new window for you—a new window to a new view, meaning another beautiful perspective. You can read the same chapter your entire life, and every day you will discover something new. That is why these holy words constitute a holy book. These holy words are known as Amar Vākya, Immortal Words. They are true words, the words of nectar, because they unite and connect us with reality, with the Supreme. The same truth is repeated in almost every holy book, more or less identically, because the truth is one. There may be some differences due to changing cultural and traditional contexts, which can vary every fifty kilometers. But this Amarvākya, Amarvāṇī—these immortal words—do not change, because they are immortal.
