What is the Carana?

The Mangala Caranam is the auspicious invocation of the holy feet.

This initial step is a prayer for the divine presence. The holy feet, or lotus feet, represent the Guru's grace. We pray for the Guru to enter and reside within our home. Wherever the Guru is, there is supreme bliss and auspiciousness. The dust from those feet is the holiest substance. This devotion establishes the foundation for all spiritual practice. The entire path flows from this reverence for the sacred source.

"Gurusvāmī jī, please rest today here, step your holy feet in my house."

"Nothing is holier and higher than the dust of the Gurudev’s lotus feet."

Sudeep Narayan Bhagavān kī jaya! Dev Purīṣa Mahādeva kī jaya! Dharma Sambhāraṁ Satguru Svāmī Madhavānandajī Gurudeva kī jaya! Sanātana Dharma kī jaya! Aura Brahma, Guru Viṣṇu, Guru Devo Maheśvara, Guru Sākṣāt Parabrahma, Tasmai Śrī Guruve Namaḥ. Dhyānamūlaṁ gurur mūrtiḥ, pūjāmūlaṁ gurur padam, mantramūlaṁ gurur vākyaṁ, mokṣamūlaṁ gurur kṛpā. Siddhepuri Samādhi Vākīl. Yesterday, I explained to you about Maṅgala Caraṇam. Yesterday, I explained to you the Maṅgala Caraṇa. Maṅgala Caraṇa means the first step. Or, caraṇa means the Holy Lotus Feet. Like we sing a bhajan: "Gurusvāmī jī, āj to yate hī sāyab ānand karo, caraṇ kā māl pad āṅganīye, mā caraṇ kā pad āṅganīye, āṅganīye dharo, dina yugyosā karo." So, it is a prayer: "Satguru Sahayam, O my Satguru Dev, O my Lord, please rest today here, stay today here. Stay here, step your holy feet in my house." Caraṇa, Kamala. Caraṇa is feet, Kamala is like lotus. Caraṇa, Kamala. Caraṇa is feet, Kamala is like lotus. So, like we sing one bhajan from Śrī Lālā Nānjī: "Nothing is holier and higher than the dust of the Gurudev’s lotus feet, if you realize you are the Guru." Otherwise, for you, it’s nothing. "What a great day. The sun has risen today. It’s the divine day, the golden day, the holiest day, the happiest day today that you come and step into my house." "Sadguru Svāmījī, aaj to sāheb āte ānand karo. O my Lord, Sadguru Dev, please rest here today. Please make ānanda here, because wherever Gurudev is, there is ānanda, maṅgalam." "O Satgurudevam, kérlek pihenj meg itt, mert ahol Te vagy, ott ānanda van." "Svoju ānandu, jer de godhe Gurudev, tuje ānanda."
