What is the Carana?
The Mangala Caranam is the auspicious invocation of the holy feet.
This initial step is a prayer for the divine presence. The holy feet, or lotus feet, represent the Guru's grace. We pray for the Guru to enter and reside within our home. Wherever the Guru is, there is supreme bliss and auspiciousness. The dust from those feet is the holiest substance. This devotion establishes the foundation for all spiritual practice. The entire path flows from this reverence for the sacred source.
"Gurusvāmī jī, please rest today here, step your holy feet in my house."
"Nothing is holier and higher than the dust of the Gurudev’s lotus feet."
