2nd International Children Peace Conference

A speech at a youth conference on environmental and spiritual stewardship.

"Children are the culture of tomorrow; the nation and the world will go in the direction in which our children go."

"God has given us freedom, but alongside it, He gave us intellect, the buddhi... you will reconsider five times over whether you should do it or not."

Swami Maheshwarananda addresses the Yoga in Daily Life Youth Union, emphasizing the duty to protect water and the planet for future generations. He reflects on performances by children, interpreting their love for 'mother' as a call to love Mother Earth. He discusses human responsibility, the sin of neglecting animals, and the need for conscious action guided by intellect.

Oṁ Asato mā Sadgamaya! Tamaso mā Jyotirgamaya! Mṛtyormā Amṛtam Gamaya! Oṁ Śāntiḥ! Śāntiḥ! ... Merciful Lord, lead us from unreality to reality. Lead us from darkness to light. And lead us from mortality to immortality. Peace, peace, peace to the entire universe. Adoration to the cosmic light. Adoration to Bhagavān Śrī Dīpa Mahāprabhujī. Respected local authority, respected Mr. Chari and Mukesh Kumārjī from the Embassy of India, the President of Yoga in Daily Life of the Czech Republic, and the President of the Slovak-Indian Friendship, Dr. Anna, as well as the President of the Slovak Union of Yoga in Daily Life, blessed self, dear brothers and sisters, dear children, Indeed, it is a great day that we have organized something for our future. With this second conference of the Yoga in Daily Life Youth Union, it is as if we are planting seeds for the future. Because children are the culture of tomorrow; the nation and the world will go in the direction in which our children go. Now is precisely the right time to inspire them, support them, and give them truthful, real information—and not to abuse their childhood or innocence. The children who performed the program here provided a kind of lesson for us, as Mr. Chari said; we learned from them. Their call to humanity is a message to the elderly. We should place into their hands a world as pure and peaceful as we received it. One of the most important questions raised was that of water. You know that the third generation to come may have nothing to drink. That future is not so far away. Due to culture, religion, politics, and economics, a time will come when there will be wars over water. Therefore, it is our prime duty to save water and respect it. Water is life. Do not think you have enough and can use as much as you like. Do not waste water. Water is white gold. Water is life. This planet will not survive without water. Thus, we must think about climate change, which is caused by pollution, wars, and bombs. The children performed a program for the environment. Yes, it is easy to throw things away; we live in a throw-away society. But when you throw something away, where does it go? We must think about that. Which dustbin should we use? Could we walk just 100 meters further? We should consider walking those 100 meters to the next waste bin. These are practical examples we must incorporate into our lives; otherwise, our future will be dark. All these indications—floods, droughts, fires, climate changes—are signs that God is speaking to us through them. If we are not kind to His creation, as Mahāprabhujī said, "Do not go against nature, otherwise nature will take revenge." We are not far from that revenge. Therefore, we should not emphasize loving only humans and humanity, but we must love the entire planet. Three children said, "I love my mother." Sorry, the fathers might have felt a little slighted; unfortunately, no one mentioned the name of father. But father understands that mother needs more attention, so they say this. "Mother" here means the entire Earth, our planet: trees, rivers, oceans, lakes, ponds, fountains, animals, life in the ocean, life in the forest, and, of course, humans too. They exist in oneness. They are one; they are not separate. For God, there is no difference between a human and a rabbit. For a father, there is no difference between his children. If a father or mother makes distinctions, they are not real parents. God is the creator; He is the father, and He loves equally. So never make the mistake of thinking God loves only all humans. God has given us the freedom to do what we want. No, that is not entirely true. God has given us freedom, but alongside it, He gave us intellect, the buddhi. As Lord Kṛṣṇa said to Arjuna: before undertaking any karma, you should know the nature of the action. When you know precisely the form of the karma, you will know the result or fruits of your deeds. And when you know this, you will reconsider five times over whether you should do it or not. People support other people excessively, while those innocent, poor animals are completely neglected, tortured, and abused. That is the greatest sin a human can commit. Nature consumes nature; nature kills nature. But animals do not possess that freedom of choice. They cannot do what they want. A human, however, can decide whether to act or not. If you do not like your village or country, you can emigrate elsewhere, but nature cannot emigrate. We must live with nature, and we must think. Therefore, I am very proud of our children for demonstrating great love and their abilities. I wish them a happy, happy, happy life and a very good education. May they complete their university studies or learn a profession they love. I wish them a harmonious, healthy, and long life. May God guide their lives, and we bless them. Thank you to the organizers. I also thank the organizers. All the best and good wishes. All the best. Thank you. Recording location: Czech Republic, Strilky, Conference
