Aba Hama bhajan

A spiritual discourse on the experience of bhajan singing and attaining fearlessness through wisdom.

"Gurujī placed the happiness of His own unity into the form of bhajan in such a way that whoever sings will also experience it."

"Nirbhaya means fearless, no more fear... when you attain this complete knowledge, there is no more longing, no more wandering here and there."

The speaker describes the inner process of singing bhajans, where bliss travels between the heart and Sahasrāra Cakra, subduing mental fluctuations. He explains that the Guru brings a "cloud" of wisdom (Gyāna ghaṭā) that rains the nectar (Amṛta) of direct knowledge, which satisfies all desires and leads to a fearless, complete state without movement or longing. The talk uses metaphors of clouds, rain, and a full glass of water, concluding with the transformative power of the Guru's mantra.

Recording location: Hungary, Vep, Summer seminar

When you sing this, you feel your heart. Observe your thinking process. Automatically, all vṛttis subside; automatically, all vṛttis cease. You experience this happiness. Gurujī has placed the permanent happiness of His unity, of His union, even into the form of bhajan, so that whoever simply reads and sings will experience it, at least for as long as they are singing. Gurujī placed the happiness of His own unity into the form of bhajan in such a way that whoever sings will also experience it. Therefore, observe your thinking, your vṛtti, and feel your heart. Observe your thoughts, your vṛttis, and observe your heart. The waves of bliss travel from the heart to the Sahasrāra Cakra, and from the Sahasrāra Cakra back to the heart. It is a beautiful feeling if you observe this carefully. You can watch while you sing how the feeling of bliss awakens from the heart and goes to the Sahasrāra Cakra, and then from the Sahasrāra Cakra back to the heart. That ocean exists in different forms; reality is also in different forms. As I explained to you before with the example of clouds: nearly half the ocean is in the sky all the time. Half of the ocean is like a cloud in the sky. So, what does that reality of that Brahman, the Supreme, mean? That is knowledge, Gyāna, Ātmā Gyāna. Ātmā Gyāna, Gyāna Ghaṭale, Satgurū Āyā, Amṛta Jala Barṣāyā. Gyāna Ghaṭale, Satgurū Āyā. Amṛta Jala Barṣāyā, Amṛta nīra pīyā mana bharake, Nirbhaya calā nirbhaya Gyāna ghaṭā. Like the heavy clouds you saw today at noon. That is called ghaṭā. Gyāna ghaṭā, Gyāna ghaṭā. Ghaṭ means the pot, and ghaṭā means heavy clouds. Jñāna means wisdom, knowledge. Jñāna ghaṭā, lej Satgurū vajā. My Gurudeva came with that ghaṭā of wisdom. When you are very hot, and then a nice, cool breeze comes. It brings heavy clouds. Not only humans, but even a small blade of grass is happy, looking forward to the rain that will finally come. And He let rain—the rain of nectar. When direct rain falls on a garden or on vegetation, the vegetation takes on a different color and possesses a different happiness than when you water it otherwise. One drop of rain has more energy for plants than one liter of water taken from your water table. This is Amṛta, the nectar. Amṛta means when you drink the nectar, you become immortal. Here, nectar symbolizes the wise words, Guru Vākya. Nectar here symbolizes the word of wisdom. With the master comes immense wisdom. Amṛta nīra—nīra means water, very pure, clean water. Nīra is very pure, clean, without any qualities mixed in. That is direct knowledge, what we call first-hand information: our original fountain, the original source. When you get that, the thirsty one will drink and drink until the thirst is quenched. And then I drank, drank, ... until my mind was completely satisfied. As in this bhajan, all the vāsanās, all desires of the mind, are purified. Amṛta nīra pīyā mana bharake, nirbhaya ne calā pāyā. Nirbhaya means fearless, no more fear. Ne calā. A calā means unmovable. Now, no more movement. Movement exists where there is emptiness. In technology, in a mechanical system, you need a tolerance space so that you can move freely. But in wisdom, there is no tolerance; there is completeness. If this glass is full, then there is no movement in the water inside. But if it is empty, then there is movement. When it is completely filled, full, then there will be no movement. This means when you attain this complete knowledge, there is no more longing, no more wandering here and there. Nearby, a nascent soul became fearless, one with you. I became one with you without fear. I am without fear; do not be afraid. Abahama, Guru Charan, Satpapa, Sagarale, Saman, into the gold. Similarly, Gurujī compares himself, stating that he was like iron, and by the touch of Mahāprabhujī, he was made like gold. And he spoke the mantra "So'ham" into my ears. What happened? Kaua hansa pataya—now the crow became the swan, the Paramahaṅsa. Through God, through that mantra of the Gurudeva which he gave to me. Gurudeva's words, Mahāprabhujī's words, have changed into gold. The mantra of "So'ham" has entered my heart, and thus the Varyu has become Hathuva. How? Through the mantra, through Gurudeva's words. Like a philosopher's stone turns iron into gold.
