Recognise holiness in others

A spiritual discourse on equal vision and the qualities of a seeker.

"Sam draṣṭi means to look at everything with the same eyes, since all beings in the universe are in my own state."

"A sādhak who speaks as a great yogī about himself... never praises himself, just as a diamond does not praise itself."

The speaker expounds on the principle of seeing the divine self in all beings, which forms the basis for ethical conduct. He outlines the attributes of a true sādhaka, including humility, continuous spiritual practice (sādhana), and the importance of good company, diet, and guidance from a Guru on the path toward liberation from individuality.

Recording location: Hungary, Vep, Summer seminar

Sam draá¹£á¹i, equal vision: ātmā so paramātmā, viÅ›va prāṇī merÄ« ātmā hai. Sam draá¹£á¹i, equal vision: all creatures, ātmā so paramātmā, they are all the light of God; they represent God. And therefore, myself—they are all myself. And therefore, great saints, the Ṛṣis said, "Do not do to others what you do not like done to you." The same thing is said in the Mahābhārata, and the same is repeated also in the Bible. This is why the great Ṛṣi said that if you do not want something done to you, do not do it to others. Sam draá¹£á¹i means to look at everything with the same eyes, since all beings in the universe are in my own state. Siddhi: those who have siddhis but do not demonstrate them. Naturally, it happens through the presence of such a great saint, but not by throwing or demonstrating, because siddhi is a big māyā for a yogÄ«. Those who have siddhis do not show them; of course, these happen in their presence. Siddhi is not used for demonstration. Sādhak bhāva: though one is a very great saint, a holy saint, still feeling and saying, "No, no, I am just small, and I am only a student, I am only a spirit." What greatness of them! "Baḍā baḍā inhā kare, baḍā na bole bol, Rahiman hÄ«rā kab kahe, lākh hamārā mol." A great person never speaks about oneself, saying how great I am. Like a diamond never praises itself, saying, "I am a diamond and my value is $20,000." No, we say, "Oh, it's $50,000." But the diamond does not speak; we know it is a diamond. A sādhak who speaks as a great yogÄ« about himself, that he is a teacher, and never praises himself, just as a diamond does not praise itself—what do we say about him? That this diamond is worth $50,000; the diamond never praises itself. And sādhanā: constantly praying, practicing. Sādhanā means constant practice and prayer. If we believe Jesus, for example, that He was the whole incarnation, then where was the need that He was praying? No, He was also praying. Through sādhanā, you make purification: purification of body, purification of mind, purification of consciousness, purification of antaḥkaraṇa. Sādhanā abhyāsa, abhyāsa, abhyāsa: practice, practice, practice. Never think that now I have reached everything, and here is the mālā, I do not want anything, I am self-realized—hello, sir, yes, from this point you are going down, that's it. So the definition of the saint is very great. And to have a meeting with them, company with them, is rare in this world. And to hear from their mouth something about God and His spirituality: Harikathā, the glory of God. Otherwise, he said, wife, children, and money—sinners can also have these. That is not extra, something more, how to say, holy. Otherwise, he says that children, wife, and wealth even sinners can have. In other words, on the contrary, partner, children, and money can also be had by sinners; there is nothing special in that. There is nothing extraordinary in that. So, you are the great one. You are all saints here now. And how fortunate I am that I have you all. And we should see saintliness in others, not in ourselves; that's it. Always try to see God first in others. If you see God in others, then you can see Him in you. If you cannot see Him in others, definitely you cannot see Him in you. Therefore, God gave two eyes to us. One kind of eyes for looking outside, that you see God in all; second eyes, inner eyes, then you will see inside also God. In this hectic world, you found this time to come here. You are a fortunate one, a lucky one. It is recreation for your body, mind, and consciousness. Information for your soul; liberation for your soul to realize the ātmā. As long as the soul is there, you are an individual. And when you will have ātmā jñāna, then the soul will dissolve, and you will be only ātmā. And the soul is there as long as there is individual quality. And I would like to ask if it is possible to solve the problem of individuality from the point of view of ātmā. So jÄ«vātmā of the soul is the individual identity. Through good karma, jÄ«vātmā, that jÄ«va, that individual may come to heaven, or Vaikuṇṭha, or Svarga. Yes, but after enjoying all the good karma, again one has to come back to the chaurāsÄ«, meaning to this cycle of birth and death. Because heaven is limited. Where heaven ends, maybe hell begins. And where hell ends, heaven begins. Therefore, a yogÄ« says, "No, I don't want heaven. I want moká¹£a." BrahmalÄ«na, one with the Brahman, one without a second. Ananta, and this individual becomes one with that Ananta. And for that, we need to be careful with our diet. Dr. Gotari yesterday spoke beautifully about the diet. I hope he will speak again. Our company, the Saá¹…gha. Jaisā khāye anna, vaisā rahe mana. What kind of nourishment you eat, like that will be your mind. Jaisā kare saá¹…ga, vaisā lage raá¹…ga. What kind of society you have, that color you will take. Habits. If you are with people who take drugs, you will also begin to take them. If you are with alcoholics, they will make you also alcoholic. And if you are with me, I will make you sad. You see? If you are with drug addicts, then you are also with drug addicts. If you are with alcoholics, then you are also with alcoholics. If you are not with me, then I will put you in jail. If you are with those who drink alcohol, then you are with alcoholics. If you are with those who are drug addicts, then you are with drug addicts. If you are with me, then I will put you in jail. As you drink water, you drink from water. What kind of liquid you drink, like that you will speak. If you drink one liter of milk or nice water, you will be speaking very calm and peaceful. And if you drink one liter of vodka, then I don't know what you will talk. If you drink one liter of milk or water, you will speak clearly, intelligently, and cleanly, but what will you say if you drink one liter of vodka, I don't know. And the guidance of the GurÅ«. The first GurÅ« is mother, the second is father, the third is friend, the fourth is school teacher, the fifth is religious teacher or priest, and the sixth is your spiritual SatgurÅ«, and the seventh you are thyself. The first GurÅ« is your mother, the second GurÅ« is your father, the third GurÅ« is your close friend, the fourth GurÅ« is your school teacher, the fifth GurÅ« is your priest, the sixth GurÅ« is your spiritual GurÅ«, and the seventh GurÅ« is your teacher. And when you meet the SatgurÅ«, then how you feel and what happens? And when you meet this GurÅ«, how do you feel and what happens? Recording location: Hungary, Vep, Summer seminar
