The Key to Succes Is Self Discipline

The path of realization requires two essentials: a firm decision and love for the practice.

A practitioner's resolve must be unwavering, like an immovable mountain. The second necessity is love; without devotion to your practice, the goal is unreachable. Your practice is your God until realization is attained. Neglecting practice—mantra, meditation, prayer—is to lose the way. Success depends on self-discipline. Where discipline is absent, everything is lost. Discipline is the royal path; without it, there is no success.

There are various attitudes and ways for devotees to attain realization. These include Karma Yoga, Bhakti, Rāja Yoga, Jñāna Yoga, Mantra, Kriyās, and Haṭha Yoga. But what is truly needed? Two things. First, a strong saṅkalpa—a firm decision. The practitioner's resolve should be unwavering. It is said: even the mighty Himalaya may shake, but my decision will not. The Moon and Sun may change their course, but my direction I will not alter. That is the quality of the necessary decision. The second requirement is love. If you have no love for your sādhanā, you cannot reach the goal. Patañjali stated in his Yoga Sūtra that the practitioner should have a devotion to their practice akin to devotion to God. As long as you have not realized God, your practice is your God, for without this attitude, realization is impossible. Therefore, those who neglect their sādhanā—meaning they do not practice mantra, they do not practice meditation, they do not practice prayers—have lost their way. It is crucial that we practice discipline. The key to success is self-discipline. Where discipline is lost, everything is lost. Discipline is Rāja Yoga. Where there is no discipline, there is no success.
