The Mūlādhāra is the earth element, Mother Earth. This earth preserves everything. This Mother Earth does not lose or destroy seeds; she gives birth to them. Therefore, the karma, the destiny that descends to the Mūlādhāra Chakra, gives birth to what? To the destiny you will see with your open eyes—be it negative things or beautiful, good things. You know that every day, some sprout emerges from your unconscious. Every day, a new hope arrives. A new meeting comes, a new thought, a new feeling, a new saṅkalpa, a new dream, a new motivation enters life. Our Mūlādhāra Chakra is profoundly productive; it produces so many things. Beyond this, there is the divine Śakti, the strength of the universe that holds the entire cosmos together—all planets, all elements. That power is called the Divine Mother Śakti. The Śakti that dwells in consciousness knows no difference such as "he" and "she." These are not anatomical distinctions, for she can be he, and he can be she. It depends on when, what, and how it is functioning. You may speak of the power of a man, yet that energy is "she." You may speak of "her" will, "her" strength—that is again "he" and "she." The energy, the strength created by some power within, is "she" again. Thus, in women, 75 to 80 percent of a man's energy exists, and in men, 80 to 85 percent of the female energy exists. The man always tries to merge into the female because the weaker part seeks the stronger part. The female always seeks to unite with the male power because her strongest part is there, and his strongest part is there. Both these forces are within us: Iḍā and Piṅgalā. That is why it is called Gaurī-Śaṅkar. Gaurī is the virgin, the female principle, and Śaṅkar is that consciousness, Śiva. Thus, Gaurī-Śaṅkar exists in oneness. The left part of the body is Gaurī, and the right part is Śaṅkar. Now, the seed of Śaṅkar, Śiva, is in the Sahasrāra Chakra. The seed of this Śakti, due to our destiny, is in the Mūlādhāra Chakra. However, her main concentration, her strongest part, is in the Sahasrāra Chakra with Śiva. And his strongest part is in the Mūlādhāra Chakra. Therefore, he accompanies her from the Mūlādhāra as Paśupati Mahādev, Sadāśiva. Paśupati Mahādev, the lord of animals and the lord of humans, begins to accompany her, to guide her from the Mūlādhāra, to liberate her and elevate her to the Sahasrāra Chakra, to Him. Thus, the awakening of the Śakti moves upward, just as a sprout grows upward. When this awakening occurs, particular nerves of the body—not all—are activated. That lightning ascends. Again, this lightning, this awakening in the nerves, heats specific parts of our brain connected to particular organs of the body, activating and regenerating those centers. Health develops. Youthfulness reappears in the body. A feeling of happiness and lightness manifests. And desires become strong. What kind of desire? Love for God. It does not matter, Lord, how much I must suffer. Let me come to you. Like in that one song: even if I must walk on fire, even if I must walk on thorns and burn in the fire, even if death becomes the garland around my neck, Lord, let me be yours.
