Dharma sometimes makes the master and disciple live and work in a physical distance

Disciples are like plants that thrive when replanted. Being sent away is not a sign of disfavor but of love and necessity for growth and service. Physical distance is nothing; being far can bring you nearer. For divine work, five principles are essential: knowledge, detachment, willpower, renunciation, and devotion. Renounce personal glory and act only for the Guru. A true ascetic travels lightly, carrying only the scriptures and a traditional copper water pot, a symbol of simple, dedicated life.

"When I die, look into my eyes; mutely they will say, 'I will be dying.'"

"As far as you will be, the nearer you will be to Me."

Disciples are like small plants. There are some kinds of plants that, when you replant them somewhere else, they develop better. Some disciples do not understand why this is done. They are not able to understand, and consequently, they are not able to be successful. Physical distance is nothing. "Gurudev, I will be dying. Millions come and millions go, but still I will be dying. May I go far, farther than the stars, but still, my Lord, I will be dying. When I die, look into my eyes; mutely they will say, 'I will be dying.'" So, when the Master sends a disciple from one place to another, you should not think, "Why does he send me away? I think he doesn’t love me." That is not correct. He loves you; that is why he sends you away. Holy Gurujī said to me, "I need you for my seva more than anybody. But for the sake of millions of other bhaktas and for your development, I send you away. As far as you will be, the nearer you will be to Me." And Gurujī used to say, "Gurudeva is always with you." That is very important. For divine work, you need certain principles: Jñāna, vairāgya, tyāga, śakti, and bhakti. These are the five beauties, the jewels. If you have these, you are the richest of the rich. Jñāna, jñāna... jñāna. Guru Devam is speaking from me; I have the knowledge because he is speaking from me. Vairāgya is detachment. Shakti is willpower. And tyāga is renouncing. Renounce your glory, renounce name and fame for yourself; only do for Gurudev. Whatever beautiful thing I saw in the world, I always thought, "This would be good if the holy Gurujī could have it." When a yogī goes, he takes only a few things with him, that’s all: the śāstras of his Gurudeva, one bag—"Where are the śāstras?"—and a kamaṇḍalu, the water pot. Do you know what a kamaṇḍalu is? Who doesn’t know? Oh, God! So many don’t know what a kamaṇḍalu is. You are Ugandan life. You are still teachers, and you don’t know what a kamaṇḍalu is? Aṭapavādī kamaṇḍala, the wooden shoes and kamaṇḍala in the hand, jolī or jaṇḍa. So, a kamaṇḍalu is a beautiful pot for drinking water. You see in some photos where Mahāprabhujī has a kamaṇḍalu with him, or Śrī Devapurījī also has a kamaṇḍalu with him. Like this. This is a water pot, you know. The sannyāsī must have this with him. Everywhere a sannyāsī goes, this must be with him. He drinks water from this. Now, in the modern world with modern technology, they have plastic bottles or thermoses. But the beauty of the sannyāsī is this. It is a copper pot. Copper metal is good to drink water from. Sometimes they go to the toilet, but it’s good to drink water from it.
