Real devotion and devotion from greediness -- who can see GOD, for whom GURUDEVA appears?

A devotee recounts a profound vision of his guru, Mahāprabhujī, during an all-night prayer vigil.

"He replied that he was granting it now and was also giving it to all his dear, dear devotees who were sitting there praying and crying for him."

"Mahāprabhujī responded, 'It is their greediness and their ego. They are not praying for mokṣa.'"

The speaker describes the intense devotion of a group observing their guru's anniversary in 1977. Retiring to his room, he later experiences a vision where Mahāprabhujī grants a personal wish and a blessing for the devotees. The guru then makes a stark prediction about the fleeting nature of their devotion, which the speaker reflects on years later as having come true.

On the 5th of December, 1977, we observed the anniversary of Mahāprabhujī with an all-night meditation and prayer. Around forty-five people were present, fasting and praying for Mahāprabhujī's blessings. The atmosphere was filled with intense love and devotion; some were even weeping, expressing their sorrow that Mahāprabhujī had left this world and their longing to see him again. After one o'clock, I retired to my room while the others continued sitting, meditating, and reciting their mantras. I was engaged in my own mantra practice in my room. Then, around 3:30 or 4 o'clock in the morning, Mahāprabhujī came to me and gave me darśan. I was in a deep state, half-asleep and half in meditation, yet fully conscious. Mahāprabhujī asked me what I wished for. I expressed a wish and asked if he could grant it. He replied that he was granting it now and was also giving it to all his dear, dear devotees who were sitting there praying and crying for him. To this, Mahāprabhujī said, "They are not devotees. They are crying only now. You will see very soon nearly none of them will be here with you." Years later, I reflected on this and said, "How can you say this, Mahāprabhujī? Look, they were reciting mantra the whole night, they were weeping, they had so much love for you, they were fasting." Mahāprabhujī responded, "It is their greediness and their ego. They are not praying for mokṣa. They will not be thankful to you either." Then, Mahāprabhujī disappeared. Indeed, I can tell you, out of those forty-five people, perhaps only five or three remain. All the others disappeared. So, when you come to your master, to your Gurudeva, do not come temporarily. Recording location: Hungary, Debrecen, Weekend seminar
