Anahat Chakra

A spiritual discourse on the nature of the heart center and the path to self-realization.

"The Anāhata Chakra is an endless ocean, and this ocean has waves."

"Between ātmā and paramātmā there is no difference. When you meditate, you can feel yourself as waves, and these waves merge into the ocean again."

The speaker explains the symbolism of the Anāhata Chakra as both an ocean of emotion and the cosmic Self, where individual souls are like waves destined to merge back into the whole. The teachings are illustrated with a bhajan by Gurujī and the metaphor of a lit candle enlightening an unlit one. The discourse emphasizes that self-realization requires Guru Seva (service), which is founded on understanding the sacred words (Guru Vākya) and meditating on the master's form.

The Anāhata Chakra is an endless ocean, and this ocean has waves. This imagery of the ocean and waves carries two meanings. First, the ocean represents emotion, which is like water. Water is connected to the moon, and the moon is connected to the mind. Just as the moon constantly changes, so too do our emotional feelings and our thoughts. Water symbolizes both movement and purification. Secondly, the ocean symbolizes the cosmic Self. The waves of the ocean are the individual souls; every wave originates from the ocean and will merge again into the ocean. There is no difference between the ocean and the waves. Similarly, there is no difference between ātmā and paramātmā. The difference is one we create ourselves, just as we make a distinction between the ocean and its waves. Sooner or later, these waves will calm down and become one with the ocean again. This is why Gurujī wrote a bhajan: "Abhaṁ Guru Caraṇa Sukhapāya"—now I have found happiness at my Master's feet. How? "Sāgara Lera Samāya"—like the waves merging again into the ocean. "Abhaṁ Guru Caraṇa Sukhapāya"—now I have found my eternal happiness, the union, and that union is indescribable. Therefore, between ātmā and paramātmā there is no difference. When you meditate, you can feel yourself as waves, and these waves merge into the ocean again. It means your consciousness merges into the cosmic consciousness. "Abhaṁ guru caraṇa sukhapāya, sāgara lehara samāya. Abhaṁ guru caraṇa sukhapāya." Consider high waves on the ocean during a hurricane—very high, restless waves. They come and hit the rocks, and the water shatters into many, many drops, but it all flows back to the ocean. Similarly, the very heavy emotional waves within you, the many emotional thoughts, will again merge back into you, into the ātmā. Thus, the Anāhata Chakra is the center where self-realization takes place. But before that, we must go through many, many experiences. This is only possible through three things. First, Guru Seva (service to the Master). But you cannot perform this Seva without understanding Guru Vākya. Guru Vākya means all the holy scriptures and all the words of the holy masters. Of course, the master must be a true master. The words of Mahāprabhujī, the words of Devpurījī, and the words of Gurujī cannot be compared with our own words. What we should do is only follow their instructions. That means to follow Guru Vākya. Therefore, it is said the best mantra and the essence of all mantras is Guru Vākya. "Dhyāna mūlaṁ guru mūrti." "Dhyāna mūlaṁ guru mūrti" means that upon what we should meditate is the light and form of the master. Why? Because you have to become one with that master. You are the candle which is still not lit, and the master is that candle which is already lit. So you must bring your wick to the flame of the candle which is already lit to receive enlightenment. And then it is also very important that you take care of that gentle flame. Recording location: Croatia, Umag, Weekend seminar
