Sanathana Dharma

Sanātana Dharma is the universal principle, not a religion. The Vedas and Upaniṣads teach of one nameless God, Īśvara. This wisdom is a world heritage. Our practice is a complete life, not just postures. Originally, there was only this eternal law. We also affirm millions of divine forms. This is not a contradiction. All forms originate from the one source, like all liquids from water. The ultimate truth is Brahman; the changing world is unreal. Human life is precious yet limited. We strive but cannot overcome all. Universal principles like peace belong to all.

"One in all and all in one."

"Brahma śakti jagat mithyā. The reality, the truth, the ultimate truth is Brahman. And jagat mithyā: all this changeable world is unreality."

The Rig Veda is now recognized as a heritage of the entire world, not only of India. This is significant. The wisdom and knowledge given by the ṛṣis is something we try to live by. Our yoga and daily life constitute a completeness; it is not only about āsanas and prāṇāyāmas. It contains the kind of teachings the ṛṣis possessed in that time. When these Upaniṣads and Vedas were created—or even the Mahābhārata, Bhagavad Gītā, and Śrīmad Bhāgavatam—there was no name of religions. Because there was only one religion, called Sanātana Dharma. Sanātana Dharma means the universal principle, which has existed since the universe began to be created. Hinduism believes in one God. That God has no name, and is the only one called Īśvara. That Īśvara is the universal principle; a universal law—that is Sanātana Dharma. If you are a dhāraṇakāraṇa, when you accept and follow that dharma, that religion... the Vedas and Upaniṣads taught only about one thing: the universal, one and only God. You will be surprised, because you hear that in India there are millions of goddesses. Yes, that is also true, and we believe in that too. So what is the reality now? Is there only one God, or are there millions of gods? Yes. Is there only one? I will say yes. Are there millions? I will say yes. Now you will say something is wrong, and then you have to come to Holy Gurujī. He said, "One in all and all in one." All forms of liquids on our planet here—it doesn’t matter if it is in juice, fruits, vegetation, blood form, in any form—originated from the one water element. So it does not see the form and the quality, but there is only one quality, and that is God, Īśvara. Brahma śakti jagat mithyā. The reality, the truth, the ultimate truth is Brahman. And jagat mithyā: all this changeable world is unreality. Therefore, though this life is a very precious life, full of intellect—it has the capacity to decide, it has the capacity to remove bad things—still, the human has limitation. You can try to fight against certain illnesses, but you cannot... you can try. You cannot win. Happiness, contentment, harmony, peace—these are the universal principles. No one has a copyright for this. It is equally given to all creatures and to humans, that they can better understand, pochopit.
