Sanathana Dharma

A discourse on the universal principles of Sanātana Dharma and the Rig Veda.

"The Rig Veda is now recognized as a heritage of the entire world, not only of India."

"Hinduism believes in one God. That God has no name and is the only one, called Īśvara."

The speaker presents the Rig Veda as a world heritage and explains the core tenets of Sanātana Dharma, describing it as the eternal, universal principle and law equated with the one God, Īśvara. Addressing the apparent contradiction between one God and many deities, the teaching resolves it with the principle of "One in all and all in one," using the analogy of the single water element manifesting in all liquids. The talk concludes by defining Sanātana Dharma through universal human values like love, peace, and harmony.

The Rig Veda is now recognized as a heritage of the entire world, not only of India. This is significant: the Rig Veda is acknowledged as a world heritage. We try to live according to the wisdom and knowledge given by the ṛṣis. Our Yoga in Daily Life is not merely āsanas and prāṇāyāma; it is a complete system. It contains the kind of teachings the ṛṣis possessed in that era. When these Upaniṣads and Vedas were created, or even the Mahābhārata and Bhagavad Gītā, or the Mahābhārata, Bhagavad Gītā, and Śrīmad Bhāgavatam, there were no names for religions. There was only one religion, known as Sanātana Dharma. Sanātana Dharma means the universal principle that has existed since the universe began to be created. Hinduism believes in one God. That God has no name and is the only one, called Īśvara. That Īśvara is the universal principle. The universal principle is called the universal law, and that universal law is Sanātana Dharma. Those who understand it, honor it, and accept it are the followers of dharma. Dhāriyate—if you are dhāraṇakaraṇa (one who holds), when you accept that, you follow that dharma, that religion. Thus, the Vedas and Upaniṣads taught only about one thing: the universal, one, and only one God. You may be surprised because you hear that in India there are millions of goddesses. Yes, that is also true, and we believe in that too. So what is the reality now? Is there only one God, or are there millions of gods? Yes, is there only one? I will say yes. Are there millions? I will say yes. Now you might say something is wrong, and then you must come to Holy Gurujī. He said, "One in all and all in one." All forms of liquid on our planet—whether in juice, fruits, vegetation, blood, or any form—originate from the one water element. Thus, one does not see the form and the quality, but there is only one quality, and that is God, Īśvara. Brahma śakti, jagat mithyā. The reality, the truth, the ultimate truth is Brahman. And jagat mithyā: all this changeable world is unreality. Therefore, although this human life is a very precious life, full of intellect, with the capacity to decide and to remove bad things, still, the human has limitations. You can try to fight against certain illnesses, but you cannot always win. Therefore, you should know that humans are limited. For this reason, one should not forget Sanātana Dharma. For us, Sanātana Dharma means: what is the dharma of our life? The Sanātana values: love, happiness, contentment, harmony, peace—these are the universal principles.
