Do not Neglect Your Sadhana

Do not neglect your spiritual practice. Bodily capacity decreases daily, especially after thirty. Modern nourishment lacks vital energy, affecting the body. Respect your body's mobility but do not neglect physical exercise. As one ages, understanding of life deepens, often turning attention to devotion or life's meaning. Increase your spiritual practice. The time comes when one seeks holy company and realizes spiritual power surpasses bodily achievement. Practice mantra diligently. Your love for spirituality should grow daily. This is your personal responsibility. Belief or doubt does not alter truth. The truth is the message from realized beings. For your highest interest, continue your spiritual practice and guide others.

"So day by day, my love should grow to thee, O my Lord."

"Your belief will not change the truth. Your doubts will not change the truth."

The sādhanā you are doing has two very important aspects. The first is this: do not neglect it. If you neglect your sādhanā, you will not achieve what you wish to achieve. Now, there is a limitation of the body, a limit to bodily capacity. You know that day by day we are getting old, and day by day something is changing within our body. Day by day, the capacity of our body is decreasing, not increasing. This is especially true after the age of thirty. So nowadays, when you are forty, you are among the least of the old people. This is because all kinds of nourishment we receive—the air, which is heavily polluted, the fruits, the vegetables, the milk, the grains, and so on—are all śakti-hīna, devoid of vital energy inside. This definitely influences our body. Therefore, for your physical exercises, you should do as much as you can, but you must respect your body. This means respecting the mobility of your body. But this does not mean you should neglect your exercises. If you neglect them, the body will become older more quickly, or become stiff. This is how human nature is: as people get older, they develop more devotion to God according to their belief, or they pay more attention to their life if they do not believe in God or something similar. It means one is now beginning to understand what life means and what it means to be alive. Because one knows the time has come, and we do not want to die. We do not want to suffer. And we do not want to be left alone. That is very important. In this way, it is crucial that you increase your ādhyātmik, your spiritual sādhanā. The time will come when you will say you have had enough of kuṣaṅga (bad company), and now you want to go to satsaṅg (holy company). That time will also come when you realize you cannot achieve everything through your body, but through your spiritual power, your spiritual sādhanā. More and more practice of mantra is very important. Therefore, do not neglect your sādhanā. Day by day, your love should grow towards spirituality. As Gurujī said in one bhajan to Mahāprabhujī: So day by day, my love should grow to thee, O my Lord. We say, "My love should grow to thee, O my Lord, double in the daytime and four times in the nighttime." So in twenty-four hours, it should grow six times more. Thus, it should not be neglected. This is your life, and it is very important for your soul. No one will share anything with you. Even if they would like to share with you, they cannot. So this is your life and your responsibility. Whether you believe or not, or keep yourself away from all those dogmas which talk about dualities in different religions—"we don’t believe this, we don’t believe that, we are from this culture, we are from that country"—your belief will not change the truth. Your doubts will not change the truth. The truth cannot be changed. And I think the truth is that which those great saints and self-realized persons have given us as the message. Therefore, in your interest, for the best of your interest and your future life, please continue your spiritual sādhanā and guide others also to this spiritual path.
