let it come as it comes

A spiritual teacher recounts receiving divine guidance for a satsang during a flight.

"I closed my eyes once more... and I asked the question again: what will I speak this evening?" and "Gurujī smiled and said, 'Don't serve old food.'"

Swami Avatarpuri describes meditating on an airplane journey, during which he has a vision of his spiritual lineage and receives instruction. He reflects on the nature of spontaneous spiritual discourse versus prepared lectures, emphasizing the need to speak from divine inspiration rather than intellect. The talk touches on human dharma and self-realization.

Blessings to all of you, dear devotees and bhaktas of Mahāprabhujī. I was contemplating the whole day today, wondering what the subject of our evening satsaṅg should be. On the aeroplane from Edinburgh to London, I simply closed my eyes and meditated upon our spiritual lineage. The aeroplane crossed through the clouds, rising above them into the clear sky, and then descended below them once more. Again, I began to think: what shall I speak this evening? I closed my eyes for about fifteen to twenty minutes and meditated. When I opened them again and looked through the window, I had a divine vision—a vision of Śrī Alakhpurījī, Bhagavān Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇ Mahāprabhujī, Śrī Devpurījī, and Gurujī. It was the entire paramparā, the spiritual lineage. I closed my eyes once more, taking this picture within my chidākāśa, and I asked the question again: what will I speak this evening? I opened my eyes to a clear sky, then closed them again. Mahāprabhujī smiled and said, "As you like." Holy Gurujī always used to say, "As you like." This matter of 'like' and 'dislike' is a very significant question; we must rise above these feelings of "I like" or "I don't like." I reflected upon this a little, and then I remembered the subject of the Hindu spirituality conference in Edinburgh, where I spoke about bhakti, yoga, and especially about attaining realization—that is, achieving human dharma. What is human dharma? First, humans are here as protectors, not as destroyers. Second, the human dharma, the mission of human life, is self-realization or God-realization, whatever you may call it: to become one with Brahman. Not merely mokṣa. This question was in my mind just before landing, about five minutes prior. I closed my eyes and asked once more: what will I speak today? I recall once asking Gurujī how to give a satsaṅg. Should I write all the points on a piece of paper, compose an article, and then read it before the gathering? Gurujī smiled and said, "Don't serve old food." That was all. Gurujī smiled and said, "Don't serve old food." Each word of Gurudev was so clear; no further questions were needed. Everything was clear. It means that if you prepare yourself, write articles, and then come to satsaṅg to read—"Ladies and gentlemen, I am very happy to see you this evening. Today's subject is this and that"—that is old food you are serving. God is already of the past, so Gurujī says: let it come, whatever comes. Sab ghaṭ mera sāyā, koī ghaṭ khālī nāy, balhārī us ghaṭ kī jo pragat bole āy. In every heart, God is residing. But we adore, we salute, we worship, and we follow that heart in which God begins to speak. If you write and prepare a program and then speak, that is only your intellect. Before speaking, you must put yourself in the hands of Gurudev. Then Mahāprabhujī said, "Aisā merā Satgurū andar bole"—like that, my Satgurū Devī speaks within me. Of course, if you have a political talk or a different kind of dialogue where there is a protocol, then you should not speak anything other than what is written on the piece of paper. You are not free. But a holy man, a spiritual person, when he speaks, there are no boundaries and there is no protocol except one: Satya, the ultimate truth. --- Recording location: Great Britain, London, Seminar
