Energy Centres

A lecture on the science of Kuṇḍalinī, chakras, and the inner universe.

"You yourself are your own universe; you have your own phenomenon. What exists in the universe exists within you."

"The science of Kuṇḍalinī is the science of consciousness and energy, which is spread throughout the whole universe."

A spiritual teacher addresses practitioners, explaining that the individual is a microcosm of the universal consciousness. He describes the 72,000 Nāḍīs channeling cosmic energy and the role of chakras as energy centers, using the analogy of electroacupuncture. The talk covers purifying these channels through Prāṇāyāma to activate the three principal Nāḍīs (Iḍā, Piṅgalā, Suṣumṇā), and concludes with cautions against overly forceful practice and reducing Āsanas to mere acrobatics.

Dear brothers and sisters, practitioners of Yoga, spiritual aspirants, and those on the path toward the cosmic light through the chakras and Kuṇḍalinī. The science of Kuṇḍalinī is the science of consciousness and energy, which is spread throughout the whole universe. You yourself are your own universe; you have your own phenomenon. What exists in the universe exists within you. You create the universe. You are expanding your consciousness to endlessness. You are the middle point of the universe. You are the light of the Self, of God. The Ātmā, the immortal which resides within you, is the supreme one. Ātmā is different than the soul. The soul is individual, and Ātmā is the universal. We are still discussing Kuṇḍalinī and chakras, so we will continue about our Kuṇḍalinī and chakras. After the explanation of the physical body and energy body, we came to the Nāḍī systems. We understood the Nāḍīs—72,000 in this body—are channeling the cosmic light. There are 72,000 channels through which our body receives the cosmic energy, that divine mother, as we call it. It is that cosmic mother who is nourishing her child. When we purify these chakras through the practice of Prāṇāyāma—Nāḍī Śodhana, Sūrya Bhedana, and Chandra Bhedana Prāṇāyāma—and after the Anuloma Viloma Prāṇāyāma, we come to the three principal Nāḍīs: Iḍā, Piṅgalā, and Suṣumṇā. Now, regarding Iḍā, Piṅgalā, and Suṣumṇā, for which we had an explanation this morning, please see this chart. This is your body from the outside. There are chakras around the whole body. I would say there are 72,000 chakras which connect the consciousness in this body through the nerves. Chakras are known as energy centers. When you go to an electroacupressure or acupuncture practitioner, the person who knows about acupuncture will place some needles on your hands, your thumbs, your fingers, your wrist, or somewhere. In front of them is a monitor, and a needle on the monitor moves. If he or she does not find the reflex zone, the needle will not move. That is proof that in the body we have energy centers. It is not that the center itself is incapable, but other parts of the body are not comfortable and lack certain energy. So, what a doctor will do through electroacupuncture is activate that chakra, that reflex zone, and then it will begin to function. All the energy will be purified, and that part of the body, those nerve centers, will become healthy. The same thing happens when you practice Prāṇāyāma. Never try very hard to do Prāṇāyāma. Somebody should call the Bhakti here, and Āsanas. Now, many people practice Āsanas as acrobatics, like in a circus. That is not Yoga; that is torturing your body.
