Yoga in Daily Life Workshop in Villach on 13th of June

A peaceful night and the daily routine are opportunities for spiritual awareness and unity with the divine.

Deep sleep is a state of unity beyond all worldly identities. Before sleep, offer the day's actions to God, seeking forgiveness and protection. Upon awakening, express gratitude for this protection during the state of ignorance. Greet the earth with awareness of its burden. Recognize water as the sacred element of life. The daily shower is an imitation of the sacred ablution, connecting us to nature. All elements are manifestations of the divine through which God works. Nourishment is a gift from the divine Mother. One should offer food to God before eating, transforming it into sacred sustenance. The kitchen is your pharmacy; true health comes from fresh, whole foods prepared with love and discipline. Grind spices freshly to preserve their life force and aroma. This practice supports physical health and emotional calm. Conduct, contemplation, and positive thinking are essential. Humbleness and focusing on the essential lead to realization. How one speaks and behaves towards others is fundamental; politeness opens hearts. Live simply and be content.

Part 1: A Night of Peaceful Reflection We are grateful that God has granted us a peaceful, beautiful night, during which we were able to spend some time with ourselves. Sleep is another level, another quality of our life. Deep sleep is a state of unity. In deep sleep, a president does not feel like a president. Others also do not see themselves as mere clerks, but as connected to one another. This is the state of being with one another. Two years ago, we held a World Peace Conference in Bratislava, Slovakia. There was a guest, Maman Leshwar Swamy Nirenjananji from Punjab. In his lecture on peace, he compared it to a deep meditation or a state of blissful feelings—one with God or one in nothingness, like deep sleep. In his words: In deep sleep, you know nothing of being a millionaire or a beggar. In deep sleep, you know nothing of whether you are sick or healthy. In deep sleep, you know nothing of your nationality. In deep sleep, you have no sense of whether you are a woman or a man. This is a plane where nothingness meets the many things, nothingness meets oneness. Therefore, before going to sleep, one says to God: What I have done all day, physically, mentally, through my mind, body, and intellect—I offer all the fruits of my actions. Lord, forgive me if there was anything not good. Please take care of me as you did all day, during my sleep. My body, my mind, my intellect, my soul, my consciousness are in your hands. Chant and repeat your mantra and sleep. You will see how beautiful your sleep is and how beautiful the feelings and pleasant dreams are. We awaken and say: Thank you. Thank you, God. Thank you for your protection during my sleep of ignorance. Yes, ignorance—we do not know what is. In deep sleep, we do not know if someone is standing in the room speaking to us. We are beyond all these levels. Lord, I ask You to take control over the activity of my senses, the Jñānendriyas and Karmendriyas, all my thoughts, my actions, my words, and my feelings. Please direct them in the direction of Your grace. Let me be an instrument for your love and your light. Then you will see what beautiful events you will have during the day. We get up from the bed. Not stiffly, but with awareness: Mother Earth, I know that you carry so much burden. But may I step on you with my feet? I hope nothing will be a heavy burden for you. This is a reflection on the divine Mother, Mother Earth, Mother Nature, our own mother, and that we should not go anywhere unnecessarily. Guide my steps and please, O Mother of Help, that I may always have solid ground beneath me. We go to the bathroom. Do you know what water means? A few years ago, we held a World Peace Conference on Sustainable Development, with a special focus on rivers, lakes, and the ocean—on polluting the water with plastic bags, how many water creatures die, trapped and suffocating. There was a session for young people about water. A young man, about 23 years old, said: Every day when I get up, go to the bathroom, and turn on the tap, I say: God, thank you. Thank you, Lord, that I can have this water, that I can feel the water element on my body. We do not fully know what water means, but water is life. So, what would you like to do? Perhaps go to one of the many pleasant lakes here in Carinthia. Our skin feels comfortable. Each element—water, air, fire, earth, and space—is very important for our existence, for our life. Our task is to maintain purity. In nature, the air is truly beautiful. One goes for a walk in the forest, about a kilometer in where there are no houses, and says: Oh, such good air here. Ask Mother Nature, ask the forest and all the deer and birds and life: how is it so pure? Stay up on the alpine pasture for a week, then come to Villach, to the main street in the center at night. It stinks. Stinks of what? I do not want to say. We need to relearn. For one who can smell well, it is like anesthesia, with many dried-up fragrances. Our nose does not feel comfortable. So, after we have greeted the water, Abhiṣeka... Yesterday we planted a Ginkgo tree as a symbol of peace in Villach's main city park, and we performed Abhiṣeka with mantras. The Highest itself is here in your head—the seat of your consciousness, the seat of Śiva and also Śakti, the immortality here in the Bindu Cakra, and the wisdom, the light in your Ājñā Cakra. All Jñānendriyas, the senses of knowledge—the two eyes, two nostrils, two ears, and taste—are above the lower part of our body. And one, the fifth, is our skin, which is throughout the entire body. So five Jñānendriyas: eyes, ears, nose, taste, and skin. All are above, and their information center is very close in the head. In Austria, they say: warm feet and cool head. In India, perhaps they say: he is a cold-brained man, but that is something else. So when we come to the water, first feel the water on your highest Self. We performed Abhiṣeka yesterday. In modern times, people have become skilled at making imitations. The Abhiṣeka imitation is our shower. You open it, and water flows automatically. This imitation also comes from the elephants. The elephant sucks water into its trunk and then bathes itself. We do it too. Everything is imitation of animals. Āsanas are named after animals: Bhujaṅgāsana. Is there something called Manuṣyāsana, a human āsana? No. Everything in nature has its own name: trees, plants, snakes, cobras. Because nature is one, and this nature is in unity with us. So, Abhiṣeka. Oṁ Tryambhakaṁ Yajāmahe... I feel it; the water is tangible. How beautiful. After the water, we are purified. Vāyu Devatā. Vāyu is air; Devatā is God. All of this is a symbol of God. Winged gods, fire god, air god, Mother Earth, water god, and so on. Without that, we cannot live at all. God works indirectly through elements, through various things. Everything we see that comes from God is sacred, beautiful. Like the mantra: Pūrṇamadaḥ, Pūrṇamidaṁ... How is that? I have forgotten. Oṁ Pūrṇamadaḥ, Pūrṇamidaṁ... Very good. You must always be with me. What I do not know, I can ask you, and you can help me. Good idea? Very good. Also, Pūrṇa, perfection. What comes from Pūrṇa is also perfect. When we take from Pūrṇa, what remains is still always Pūrṇa. In India, we say: In the eggs of a bird, we do not need to put any color inside. Automatically, the babies come out full of colorful hues. And so it is. Such fresh air. When you have bathed and dried, oh, I feel like a newborn. Then we come to nourishment. Nourishment is in the Mother Goddess Annapūrṇā. Anna is grain; Pūrṇa is perfection. All seeds, life seeds, come through the grains, the kernels—not in juice. Even our soul wanders through the grains: grains, rain, atmosphere, vegetation, seeds, our bodies, and so on. That is why it is said: immediate planting, reproduction. Annapūrṇā Devī, where the goddess Pūrṇadevī, Annapūrṇā Devī, has a temple in the Himalayas, those very tall mountains between India and Nepal. Many Austrians go there, as climbing Annapūrṇā is a colorful, beautiful mountain. Annapūrṇe, sadā pūrṇe, śaṅkara prāṇa vallabhe... The prāṇa, energy, Śiva. That is beautifully said. Varadā, one could say, is kind-hearted, someone who can give everything. Varadā, renounce. For the sake of others, we renounce. Jñāna-vairāgya-siddhārtham. That is enough. Ikṣaṁ dehi ca Pārvatī. O Pārvatī, please give me something to eat now. And Mātā ca Pārvatī Devī, the mother who gives us nourishment, is Pārvatī, Mother Nature. Pitā Devo Maheśvara, and that is the prāṇa, the Śiva, is the Father. So Prakṛti and Puruṣa are our very nature. My relatives, my friends, my colleagues—all are Śiva-bhaktas, because Śiva is here at the summit. All the three worlds are my country. I am a citizen of all three worlds: this world, the astral world, and the Brahmaloka. And so it will be when it has come, Lord, that You have granted me. But I cannot eat beforehand. First, I must thank you and openly acknowledge that you give it back as Mahāprasāda. Brahmārpaṇaṁ. Therefore I offer to Brahma. Who is the Brahma? Brahmārpaṇaṁ Brahmahaviḥ. The offering is Brahma; the oblation is Brahma. Brahmāgnau, in the fire of Brahman. Which fire? The digestive fire. That is Brahman. When the Agni element, the fire element, leaves us, then Hari Oṁ. When the temperature drops, one begins to shiver, and you must quickly call for help to warm up again. Whoever cannot digest anything at all is Hari Oṁ. So this is Jāṭharāgni. In our body, it digests food. Brahma is the fire; Brahma is the oblation; by Brahma alone is it to be offered. One who sees Brahman in all action attains Brahman. Which chapter is this? Oṁ Brahmārpaṇaṁ... You don't know? I will show you. Okay? And so it is, from the Bhagavad Gītā: Oṁ Brahmārpaṇaṁ Brahmahaviḥ Brahmāgnau Brahmanā hutam Brahmaiva tena gantavyaṁ Brahmakarmasamādhinā Parvatīpate Hara Hara Mahādeva. And now, I bow to the Lord, who is Parvatī Śiva. And thank God that you have given me this Mahāprasāda. What is offered, God does not eat material things; He partakes only of the aroma. Finally, we will eat. So all the good things you prepare, first offer them and then eat. That becomes Mahāprasāda at home. A yogi, a spiritual person who lives with their family, can help the entire family develop spiritually, stay healthy, perform beautiful work throughout the world, and provide a good upbringing for the children. Thus, our seminar has unfortunately come to an end. It was wonderful to be here again in Villach. I did not think I had been away for four years. I will make sure to come back in between again. The outburst of our soul, the gratitude for receiving these feelings, this longing and desire, this information on how it works—these simple things... Earlier during the break we said these are not simple things. We have the opportunity, if we live along that path, to bring that into ourselves. That you have been here for us all these many, many years, that you have dedicated your entire life to us, to help us—you are just a small expression, but it is a sign of our joy and our love. So there is Svasti-vācana Mantra, and Advaitapūrṇā will first do the Svasti-vācana and then the Peace Mantra, because this seminar is dedicated to Peace. In this peace mantra, there are also mentions of Oṣadhayaḥ śāntiḥ—peace in herbs. Why herbs? Medicinal plants. How should one use these medicinal plants? That is also a technique. I hope my technique will become good someday and that I do everything well. Could you please come? O seekers, may the mother be auspicious, may the youth be vigorous, may the fire of life burn brightly, may the mind be pure, may the gods be free from poison, may the gods be approachable, may we see auspiciousness, may the gods be auspicious where the waters flow, may the gods be pleased when the seven-month autumn ends, where the mighty sons of Rāma do not hold sway. Śāntiḥ, śāntiḥ, śāntiḥ. Siddhir namo, guṇāṁ, kī, jaya. So, those were the mantras from the Vedas, Upaniṣads, as a welcome to the new day, the moon, and also as a blessing for peace and harmony. The mantra is a way to create positive harmony, positive energy. So you can look at her first, okay? Everyone look. She only means well, but we know a little about that. Okay. She laughs at something. Yes, you can go then. So, what we begin every day, becoming aware for the first time. We sleep very deeply and enter the dream realm, many dreams, but our body is completely relaxed. It is like a coma. It is a great blessing that after a certain time, God helps us to awaken again. There is nothing in our hands that we fall asleep, and also nothing in our hands that we enter the dream. The decision is not within our power. Yes, those who practice Yoga Nidrā daily know this technique through dreams. Dream is your reality. Four years ago, we had a topic here in this hall. Awakening again is also not in our hands. That is in God’s hands. These are the three bodies: the physical body, the astral body, and the causal body. Between these three bodies is our mind, which oscillates back and forth. So, Ṛṣis say: To sleep healthily, to have beautiful and good dreams, before going to sleep you should repeat your mantra, pray. And here too, just before going to sleep, quickly offer a brief prayer, and then, shh, under the blanket, head on the pillow, off to sleep. Now let us first open our eyes, so that a new life may begin. It is like a new birth, a rebirth. One who has fallen asleep happily, who has brought their day to a peaceful, perfect end in harmony with family, having taken proper nourishment, and who prays, meditates, repeats mantra, and then sleeps—this means one sleeps in the essence of the divine Mother as sky, nature, everything. And God watches over us. Every second and every breath is in His attention. Father or mother or we ourselves cannot be so attentive. It is a miracle, a great miracle. We say of humans, just as Mother Nature or God has gathered this beautiful body within nine months. There is no engineer, architect, or scientist who can create with electric pulses and plastic skin and plastic heart. Nothing can ever truly finish you off. How many blood cells, which hormones, which glands, which functions—this is incredible. This is the work of God. Nevertheless, if someone does not believe in God, I believe there is still something missing for that person to attain or realize. And it is like this: We awaken, eyes open. The first glance should be at a beautiful symbol—a beautiful image of your parents or children, a flower, a master, God, an altar, a beautiful landscape, a light, a positive energy. There should be no aggressive images. Some people, some young people, have so many pictures in their bedrooms from various videos showing fighting, competing, arming themselves. That is aggressive energy. As your gaze goes, so will your world be. This is a key factor for our inner peace. Awake so peacefully. There are people who are sorrowful and say: How sorrowful I am that I have awakened once again. I no longer want to live. God, just let me sleep. I do not want to wake up. There are such people as well. Why? Human beings are disappointed—by this and that, by women, by men, by money, by profession, by health, and much more. But that means you have not yet understood your life, because you are taking your own life, which is ignorance. Improve yourself and you will hardly have time for yourself; you will have so many friends. My God, you must hide somewhere to rest for a few days or hours. Just look within your own inner self. Peace, meditation. Secondly, it is about nourishment. For yoga, for a human being, yoga does not mean merely this left and right, deep inside and above. Turn left, turn right. Oh God, this is intense. I do not want to turn anymore. That is how it is. But Ācāra, Vicāra, Āhāra, Vihāra—these are four points. Therefore, how one behaves, how to speak to others. Most of the time, we speak very kindly with people we love. But until we have no attachments and come to the yoga class and say: Yes, good, God, okay, you may enter—other people feel it. God, Kṛṣṇa, speaks in the twelfth chapter of the Bhagavad Gītā: Arjuna, the devotee, the bhakta, who loves his friend and enemy equally, who is not overly joyful in winning nor overly sorrowful in losing, as if defeated—the teacher is very dear to me. Śatru mitra, a giver and taker. A balance. Often people say: We have few practices now, or few people. Yes, that is quite clear. What do you give to the person who comes into your anteroom or reception? How you radiate, how you speak, how you greet someone. Communication—that is very much lacking. In America, they conducted an interview with me at a large company. They asked me: Now people say, why should I be good to everyone? What we say is: Be good, be nice. Why should I be good? Why should I be nice? This politeness is the path to other hearts. Arrogance is also a path to other hearts, but it is, as I said, a wooden bridge with rotten, decayed, hollow wood. You go halfway and then you put everything together. That is called arrogance. You are neither on this side nor that side—nowhere, but deep within the cavity. So, how you speak, how you behave towards others—that is it. Being polite, using a beautiful word, costs you nothing, whether a small coin or a large one. But have we even done away with the Great Ones? Oh, great God. I always thought I was praying to Schilling and Grössen. Then I understood: great God, not the great gods. So the Great Ones have gone, and the Great God has gone, and the Great Ones have remained as God. So, it doesn’t cost you anything. Ācāra, Vicāra. Your thoughts should always be positive, beautiful, and higher thinking. Higher thinking does not mean you think about the summit of a mountain. No, it means you deeply incline inward and find time. That is higher. Once upon a time, there was a competition between an elephant and an ant. Who will be the winner? Who will be the best one? Elephant or ant? The elephant is big, but the ant is bigger than the elephant? No, the ant is not like that. An ant is bigger than an elephant? That’s it. So who will be the winner? Ant. The test was such that they placed a grain of sugar on the earth. On one side stood an elephant, on the other side an ant. And he said: Whoever can pick up only this grain of sugar, has this piece of sugar, is the winner. The elephant did its best and breathed in with its trunk. Of course, there were also grains of sand, but even a handful of dust is lost. The ant, very slowly and smiling, goes, greets with its antennae, takes the sugar grain, comes back elegantly, and says: Here it is. So, Laghutā is above Prabhutā. Laghutā means more humbleness, kindness. Then you will realize God. If you focus on the essential, you will be a winner. Be active from afar. But if you are very arrogant—yes, I am this and that—you will get nothing at all. On the face, perhaps they say: Yes, yes... perhaps. Those perhaps always laugh. But you do not know if they are truly laughing. If someone perhaps laughs, then open your mouth wide—not just like that. That is what others do. So that means inner attitude, thinking is very important. Conduct, reflection—think well of others, think positively, think purely for all. Part 2: The Kitchen as Your Pharmacy One person can write beautiful poems or paint very beautifully. Another is blocked. Conduct, contemplation, and behavior—where should we go, and where should we not go? Vihar. This is very important. One goes to a place at two o’clock in the night, and on the way someone comes and takes away a small cup. That is no miracle. That is not human life, going to the bar at two o’clock. Yes, it should be in the dream. What should it be in bed? It is said, a little bed, a little rice makes man healthy, wealthy, and wise. Where the yogīs, the spiritual, and nature awaken, the sun rises, rises, there we go to sleep. This is it. Our lifestyle is completely chaotic. Slowly, slowly, many people no longer have an appetite for breakfast. But with the night, you can place such a large pizza in front of the table. My God. Such a big pizza, big pizza, no? And then on it, I don’t know what, red sauce and this chili and this pasta. Midnight. But it is said that you should have a hearty breakfast, a moderate lunch, and a light dinner. But yes, we do plenty of shopping in the morning and at noon, filling our entire refrigerator until nothing more can fit inside. And of course, with the night we clear away. What do we think of our health? That is it. And where are we going? Then we finally come. O Śaḍāya, Śāntihira O Śaḍāya. Sorry. Śāntihira Vanaspataya. Viśva Śānti, world peace. If the leaves of trees, of nature, also have a healing power, Autumn or the herbs possess certain healing powers when they are properly ripe, as we already know which herbs we can use when, and when we should not use any. This is it. A farmer knows for days exactly when to take it. For example, green cherries are not edible. But we all know how good cherries are. No? Big cherries. You like a green one? Why? Because they are not? And it is the same when the herbs are dried; they lose 60% of their potency. There are some who have more effect when they dry. Even the bark, wood, resin, blossoms, leaves, fruits, fruit kernels, and seeds—all have different effects. And for health, we should have green plants and green trees everywhere. And as Indians, we see, we have a lot of haldi in our kitchen, and per person, we eat at least one teaspoon of haldi daily. There is no kitchen if there is no haldi and also coriander and other spices. Then there is no kitchen. I always tell my cook, please add a little more Haldi. And Monika, the other one, says, we put in three spoons, but there is no color there at all. Once I took this haldi, put it into water, and it was a yellow earth. Correct postures were only 5% or 10%. The rest were some kind of yellow things. Then it occurred to me, aha, my Schwerernand, go back to your childhood. How did you eat? From how many markets did you get the powder? There was no market. Yes, it was a farmers’ market. A natural store, a nature shop, they say. But poor nourishment separates the body and the soul. Then the soul does not feel comfortable in this cruel, how shall I say, this diseased body. The soul does not feel well. I called India and ordered the genuine Haldi, but not the powder. Only the roots. The roots of the Haldi are like our thumbs. And then, in front of some people, we made a Merzart, a small millstone, ground it finely, and made chutney. I do not know if we will truly believe any more now. Give me pineapples, strawberries, strawberry yesterday. And I cannot present it to him. I had this taste in ’75 in Vienna, Austria, not before, not after. Such a truly biological, natural one, and it is difficult to obtain old plants or seeds. That is Ochs, the correct, original seeds have been lost.
