Master and disciple

A narrative recounting the shared Mahāsamādhi of the guru Siamdas and his disciple Ramdas.

"Tomorrow I am going to take Mahāsamādhi. Please prepare the place here where you will put my body in the ground."

"Come, sit beside me. We will go together."

The speaker tells the story of the two yogis from Gotan, near Khatu, who consciously left their bodies simultaneously. He connects this ultimate demonstration of guru-disciple unity to the path of "Yoga in Daily Life," assuring practitioners they too can attain that consciousness. The account concludes with a personal, prophetic reflection on the profound, singular soul-connection between a master and disciple.

There is a village, or you could say a city, near Khatu. It is also near my birthplace, at a distance of about 150 to 200 kilometers. A master lived there with one of his disciples. The master's name was Siamdas, and the disciple's name was Ramdas. The place is called Gotan, in what I believe is the Nagaur district, on the border of the Jodhpur region. Gurujī, Mahāprabhujī, had many devotees there. The Gurudev and his disciples always lived on food received from devotees. The disciples would go for bhikṣā, for alms, and return with the food. One day, Gurujī told all the people, "Tomorrow I am going to take Mahāsamādhi. Please prepare the place here where you will put my body in the ground." We call that a Samādhi. So they prepared the Samādhi, and he was going to sit in it. The disciple said, "Master, what will I do alone without you? You are leaving me, my master." The master said, "Come, sit beside me. We will go together." Ramdas sat near his master, and both said, "Oṃ." That was their last breath. From both, at the same time, prāṇa departed. The Samādhi is still there; the āshram is there. It is a beautiful place. If you go there, do not miss the chance to visit and adore the Samādhi of such a divine yogī. So, there is a sādhanā, there is a practice. We have put all of this together in Yoga in Daily Life. All practitioners of Yoga in Daily Life will one day achieve that level of consciousness if they practice according to Yoga in Daily Life and follow the Guru Vākya. When I sit in Mahāsamādhi, I will tell you, "Come and sit beside me." Then, if you say, "Gurudev, I must still work," I will take care of your work. Please, Gurujī, Swāmījī, be peaceful and relax. Be with us, but go. It is not easy. What does it mean? What a connection of master and disciple: two bodies, but one ātmā, one soul. Gurujī, Swāmījī, be peaceful and relax. Be with us, but go. It is not easy. What does it mean? What a connection of master and disciple: two bodies, but one ātmā, one soul. Recording location: Czech Republic, Strilky, Summer seminar
