The Gift of Trust

A spiritual discourse on trust, the intellect, and karmic responsibility.

"Love always means that there is that trust, that faithfulness... and there is no force in the universe that can shake your relation."

"It is your thoughts that can destroy yourself... when you speak about someone to someone, then you are the sinner in between."

The speaker explores the nature of unwavering trust in the divine as the foundation of spiritual life, contrasting it with the fickle nature of ordinary belief. He then examines the human intellect, describing it as a wild horse that must be controlled and the source of self-poisoning negative thoughts, whose karmic consequences primarily afflict the speaker. The talk weaves together themes of surrender, personal responsibility, and the long-term effects of mental patterns.

Gurujī has said very clearly in one of his bhajans: "Whatever is given—meaning not only material things, but anything: life, happiness, health—everything is given by Mahāprabhujī." This consciousness, this trust, you should have. It is not merely a matter of thinking, "I will believe." I experience every day that many people who have trust, who have beliefs, change after some days or years. This means that, in a way, he knows that after five years he will change it. So how sure you are, no one can tell—only you. No one else can say it but you yourself. And so, love always means that there is that trust, that faithfulness, that harmonious relationship, and there is no force in the universe that can shake your relation. So many things may happen, but it should not change, and that is very important. Our life, our birth, our happiness, our knowledge, our buddhi—everything is given by Gurudeva. All that we have is his. Therefore, when everything is yours, then what do I lose? But this human intellect always tries to run away. It is a horse, a very wild horse. It needs to be observed and controlled every second, 24 hours. So it is you; it is your thoughts that can destroy yourself. It is your reality when you speak negatively about someone to someone. It may be something about someone, but when you speak about someone to someone, then you are the sinner in between. It has happened to you, not to others. And that poisoned, self-poisoned vṛttis—the cells in your vṛttis—are very hard to get rid of. It's like, you know, when there is a cancer disease, they operate everything out, but some cells escape through the blood and again somewhere they try to multiply. Therefore they need a very, very rude therapy, partially called chemotherapy, but still some remains. Similarly, this is not only physical; the physical is maybe easier. But self-projected or self-produced with these thoughts, which we ourselves have created, which we ourselves have projected, cause us problems. That means for many lifetimes.
