The Sacred Symbol of Oṃ

Aum is the primordial sound from which all existence emanates, exists within, and merges back into. It is the Supreme Reality in the form of sound, Nāda-rūpa-parabrahma. From this resonance, the three guṇas—Sattva, Rajas, and Tamas—are created, and from these emerge the divine principles. While every tradition has its sacred symbols, none are older than Aum. Our logo contains Aum and the mantra Śrī Gurū Dīpāya Namaḥ, where 'Śrī' signifies prosperity, 'Guru' is the guiding energy from darkness to light, 'Dīpa' represents the divine light, and 'Namaḥ' is salutation. Thus, the divine presence is within the symbol.

"Everything emanates from Aum. Everything exists within Aum, and everything will ultimately merge back into Aum."

"Śrī means prosperity, happiness, and beauty. Guru is that energy which leads us from darkness to light."

Aum is a very, very holy symbol. It is considered more sacred than God itself. Do you understand? Everything emanates from Auṃ. Everything exists within Aum, and everything will ultimately merge back into Aum. This is the eternal sound, the primordial resonance through which the entire universe is created. It is that resonance which is called Nāda-rūpa-parabrahma—Śabda Brahma—the Supreme Reality in the form of sound. From this, the three guṇas were created: Sattva, Rajas, and Tamas. And it is from these three guṇas that Brahmā, Viṣṇu, and Maheśa emerge. Brahmā, Viṣṇu, Maheśa are known as Trigunmaya. Thus, Aum is a profoundly holy symbol. Consider, for example, Christianity: the cross is a very holy symbol, and one should not humiliate it. For Christians, the cross holds the highest place. Or in Islam, Mecca and Medina are the holiest places and symbols. Similarly, in every religion and culture, there exist very holy symbols. Yet, nothing is older than Aum. In our logo, there is Aum. Within this logo, there is also a beautiful mantra. That mantra is: Śrī Gurū Dīpāya Namaḥ. A ta mantra je Śrī Guru Dīpāya Namaḥ. "Śrī" means prosperity, happiness, and beauty. "Guru," as you know, is that energy which leads us from darkness to light. It is called the Guru Tattva. And "Dīpa" is our Mahāprabhujī. "Namaḥ" is salutation. Thus, directly or indirectly, this mantra represents Mahāprabhujī itself. So, Mahāprabhujī is present. When you see the logo, Mahāprabhujī is within it.
