The Sacred Salutation: An Introduction to Khatu Praṇām
Khatu Praṇām is the salutation to the holy place of our lineage. Khatu is the village where Bhagavān Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇ Mahāprabhujī lived. The Śrī Vidyān Dīp Gītā and sacred bhajans were spoken by him under a banyan tree there. Our Gurujī stayed with Mahāprabhujī there from 1940. That place, Dīpeśwar Śivbāgh, is holy because both Masters lived there and millions came for darśan. Nearby is the Dhūnī, the fireplace of Mahāprabhujī's master, Śrī Devapurījī. Our spiritual energy begins from Lord Śiva on Mount Kailāsh, moves to Kedārnāth and Badrīnāth where Alakhpurījī is, then to Devapurījī's seat in Kailāsh village, and from there comes Khatu. Remembering Khatu awakens this spiritual energy. Therefore, I designed a program of ten movements called Khatu Praṇām. It is one name for an integrated sequence. Teachers must not lazily call out poses like "cobra" or "mountain"; they must describe the transitions. This practice positively influences the body, nervous system, and chakras, aiding Kuṇḍalinī awakening and improving immunity. For us, it holds deeper meaning as it is named for our holy place.
"Only this tree knows who Mahāprabhujī was."
"These eyes saw Mahāprabhujī. These are the blessed eyes that saw my Master."
Filming location: Khatu, Rajasthan, India
