Yesterday evening, we spoke of many things. I spoke of many things. Every small part of the body is very important for us, even our nails. But there are certain organs in the body that are more important. Without one finger we can survive, but without a liver we cannot survive. Similarly, our brain is also very important. And our brain mostly needs us to lead our life in a somewhat balanced and peaceful way. As many wishes, it is a stress for the brain. The father of psychology, the ṛṣi Patañjali, who lived 1500 years before Christ, researched the entire existence of a creature from beginning to end. The water which came from the ocean in the form of clouds, rain, the little streams of the rainwater, the creeks, the river, and again merges into the ocean. Similarly, this Jīvātmā is originated from Paramātmā. Our beginning is many, many yugas, or millions or billions of years. And the end means this individual consciousness, or this individual soul, merges into the cosmic consciousness. That is the end. So, between all these yugas, what the soul has been experiencing, going through different situations in the astral world, on different planets, as well as on this planet. So our entire existence is not only the physical body, but there are many layers over the soul. And that has been researched by great yogīs and saints, and also nicely put together by the great Patañjali. Therefore, Patañjali put the first two instructions: Ātma yoga nu śāsanam, discipline.
