The blessed day of guru purnima

A satsang discourse on the significance of Guru Pūrṇimā.

"Guru Pūrṇimā is the day when, for the first time, the light of the sun was descending on this planet."

"Lucky are they who can be with the Master. And also, lucky or fortunate are they, at least they can be mentally with their Master."

A spiritual teacher addresses a gathering on the holy day of Guru Pūrṇimā. He explains its glory as the day sunlight first descended and as the birthday of sage Vyāsa, linking it to the eternal Sanātana Dharma. Through devotional songs and analogies, he describes the disciple's longing for the Guru, the transformative power of grace, and the day's role as the start of the spiritual year, where devotees present the fruits of their practice and take new resolutions.

Many of you know the glory of Guru Pūrṇimā. The Guru is the highest principle in the universe. Guru Pūrṇimā is the day when, for the first time, the light of the sun was descending on this planet. Many call it Vyāsa Pūrṇimā, for the great saint Vyāsa was born today. Today they are celebrating, worshipping; today they are worshipping the Vyās Gaḍī. Now, all little children should go to bed, either in the car or in the rooms. We request the mothers or fathers, please. Gaḍī means the holy throne, and this throne is known as Vyās Gaḍī. The holy man, the preacher who sits on that place, is adored because of his sitting on the place of the Vyāsa. It is said that the holy Vedas were written by Ved Vyāsa. Ved Vyāsa was a very great saint, Trikādarśī. So it is the Sanātana Dharma. Sanātana Dharma is Ādi and Anādi Dharma, the eternal religion. You know, all religions are man-made religions. Adhyātmikā dharma is a sanātana dharma because this is not some man-made. Mahāprabhujī said in one of His bhajans: "Hai niśāna bhagavā hinda kā pūjanikā, ādhi anādi pūjanikā, ādhi anādi śiva-saṅkarkī gaḍī, hai niśāna bhagavā hinda deśhkā pūjanikā, ādhi anādi." This orange rope is the symbol of the Sanātana Dharma, the Bhārata, the Hindustan, which is worshipped, universally worshipped, Ādi and Anādi, from beginning, middle, endless. He, Ādi Anādi Śiv Śaṅkar Kī Gaḍī. This is the seat of Lord Śiva. So today is the celebration of the wisdom, knowledge. "Gu" means darkness, and "Ru" means light, where the darkness disappears and light appears. All of us, very often, are living in darkness, and suddenly some thoughts come again, decisions come in our mind which illuminate, enlighten again our consciousness. Therefore, simply this day, the seventh full moon of the month, the seventh month of this year, on the full moon, is known as Guru Pūrṇimā. And on this day, all are waiting to have darśan of the Gurudev. Lucky are they who can be with the Master. And also, lucky or fortunate are they, at least they can be mentally with their Master. And lost in darkness are they who forget today and do not even think of the Master. It's the beginning of the spiritual year. For the spiritual seekers, today is the new year where the knowledge begins. Time is passing for every creature equally, but for spiritual aspirants, time is very precious, very special, and for them, time is not passing just like... For animals, they are aware about the time. Mahāprabhujī said in this bhajan: "Paramaguru Swāmījī Mahārājanam Sudhāryo, Aj." Oh, my supreme master, the Swāmī, means the Lord, means the master. Oh, my supreme master, today you have saved my life, or today, my life became successful, otherwise I would have sunk in the māyā, the ocean of māyā. He protected. His eyes are very pure: the mercy, the grace, the love, radiance from his eyes. In order to cross the ocean of ignorance, Gurudev has brought this boat, or the ship of satsaṅg. Oh Lord, if I would not have met you, there would have been great tragedy. A great loss could have happened, and what kind of loss? Tragedy, then in every life, next all lives, I would have gone in the charasi, in other creatures' lives. Guru Deva is the jewel of the forest, and the disciple is the iron. When the disciple comes to the Guru Deva, he changes from iron into gold. Śrī Devpurījī is my Supreme Master, Mā Prabhujī said. Dhanya Gurudev Nevara, Suphala Bhaya Sabhā Kāja, Maa Prabhu Jī said, "Thank you to you, my Gurudev. Today, all my things happened successfully." All things became successful after meeting Gurudev, after having the injections of spirituality. How the devotee is waiting for Gurudev till next Pūrṇimā. That's also one of the beautiful bhajans. What was this bhajan that we sang? Oh my friend, listen to me. My love, my devotion, I am in devotion to the Gurudev. My Gurudev has held my hand. I am very fortunate. The problem is this: you always write in a different language, and I can't read it. There are some lines up and lines down. This is also a very big problem this year: transcription. This is a transcription of the transport. Sunorī sajanī mahāro lāgyo pīvā sanevā. What is pīvā sanevā? This is cremation language. I am in love. I am in devotion to my Gurudev. "Bhāgya dhanya merā." It's my fortunate Marībāī. "Gāī Gurudev." My Gurudev has held my hand. "Pātyā vāchū pīvā kījī, nenā jarayo nīr." I am reading the letter of my Gurudev, and my tears are flowing. In my body, there are the vibrations of love, the feeling of happiness, joy. Amṛt Varṣe Meva, Amṛt Varṣe Meva, the rain of the nectar, you know, before five days, six days, wherever you looked here, the earth was dry, and all the plants and vegetation were nearly dying. And as soon as the rain came, you could see how the vegetation, the grass and flowers and trees were smiling, blossoming, radiating. New prāṇa came in, new life came. That is amṛt. That is your life energy. I read the letter of my master, and my eyes, my tears are flowing. My whole body is filled with beautiful vibration, devotion. Like through my whole body, nectar is raining. I am longing for him. Only the lover knows how much longing he has for the beloved one. Only two persons can't sleep: yogī and rogī. Rogī is the ill one who has a lot of pain in the body; whole night he spends with open eyes, or the lover of the guard, he can't sleep. All people are... Sleeping and snoring, but he's sitting and repeating mantra. He even doesn't close his eyes because two things can happen when you close the eyes: sleep comes. As you close your eyes, and he comes, and he will say, "Look, I come." He becomes blind. Close eyes, he goes away, next day he will tell God, "Why you didn't come?" God will say, "I was there." "Oh God, you, my God, I never thought that God will lie." So God says, "I was there, but you were sleeping." So the yogī doesn't sleep, but the bhogī sleeps. Rāgī and Bhogī, they sleep. Therefore, it is said, "An pānī bhave nahī." I have no appetite. I'm longing so much for him. I lost my appetite, and it happens to many people. Suddenly, they are losing kilos. And when you ask Yosef, "What happened to you?" Well, I don't know. I have no hunger because the māryā has left him. That's it. The same condition you have towards God or Gurudev, feel it. I can't eat solid food, and I can't drink liquid. I have no appetite. Shooli says to someone, "I can't sleep, my bed is like a needle bed, like a fakir bed." I have so much longing. If someone will arrange that I meet my beloved today, I will serve his holy lotus feet; I will massage his feet. I am longing for him. For him, day and night, I climbed on the high building on the fourth floor because from there is a better view, and I am observing the way, the path that my Gurudev will come. That fourth floor is our Anahata Chakra. That's the fourth chakra. So climb, go into your heart, and then wait. Observe the path if he's coming. I climb to the fourth floor and observe the path to see if he's coming. If anyone comes to me and gives me a message that yes, he's coming. I will give him whatever rubies or diamonds that person asks for. Out of my happiness, I will give everything, whatever one asks for. That, my beloved one, is Śrī Devpurījī. He is a Brahman. He is the Supreme. I love him. He is mine. Śrīdīpā kahe man bhavyā. Mā Prabhujī said, "I like him." I accepted him. Jara hṛde dhyāna dhare. Whom I meditate on in my heart. On whom? Sunaurī sajanī mayarā lagyo pivāsane. Listen, my friend, I am in devotion to my Lord. Like this until next Guru Pūrṇimā. Or, until the next meeting, the bhakta is waiting. It is, others cannot understand this. Only they understand who have this relation, these feelings. Therefore, Mahāprabhujī said, "Hameṅ haiṅ kām, satsaṅg se jagat bhake, tu bhakne de." You know this bhajan. Today the devotee comes to the Master with all the presents. Whatever you have got in the whole year, your spiritual collection, like a farmer who is harvesting everything and brings it all home. So today, all bhaktas, they come to Master with their happiness and with joy, and say, "Look, Master, I have brought these fruits for you, which you gave me seeds last year in Guru Pūrṇimā, and till today, so much it's grown." Some come with empty hands. They say, "My seeds didn't grow." Or it was grown, but I have forgotten to give it water. Or some insect came and attacked my seed. It is a karmabhūmi. It is that field in which you have to cultivate your spirituality. And with happiness, with joy you bring, and so the master looks, "Here I am." You give everything, and you take a saṅkalpa: you will do more next year. Now, your new year begins for your new sādhanā. The same sādhanā, but new hard work. The seeds are the same; now you will grow in the next season, new. So, I have blessed your malās. A bhakta comes with their malā and get blessings, so I have blessed already. I saw the mala in your neck is blessed. The mala is your prāṇa, and so begin new sādhanā, that from today onwards I will. Make one mala every day. More every day, I will do kriya. Every day I will pray, and every day I will think positive and bless me, Master. I will serve you and follow your vākyas. And then the disciple goes, they are independent. Go wherever you like, do whatever you like, because the consequences also you will suffer. Mahāprabhujī said, "Mahāprabhujī said, my dear, go, you are free. Enjoy your life, enjoy your life. You are in the protection of Gurudev." But still, if you do something wrong, the next Guru Pūrṇimā you will get some consequences. I pray to Almighty Lord Swayambhū, Devādidev, Śrīdev Purījī, Alak Purījī, and Mahāprabhujī, and Gurujī, to bestow their divine blessing for you. And may they guide you on each and every step. And may they guide your each and every thought, and may they guide your each and every action and each and every word towards the Divine, that in your buddhi, in your intellect, only beautiful, positive... And spiritual thoughts come towards you, and all creatures and all humanity understand Guru Vākya. Do the Guru Śiva, then you will get the Guru Kṛpā. It's a lifelong process, and I wish you a very, very long life, that you can enjoy these beautiful satsaṅgs in your beautiful spiritual family. We are all here together as one thing, so I bless you, and you don't need to bring your mala to me, because I know who has mala in hand, who has mala in the neck, who has mala in the pocket, and who has no mala. So it doesn't matter wherever your mala is, in pocket or the bag or in the bed or... Under the pillow is blessed, light reaches everywhere.
