Guruḥ Brahmā, Guruḥ Viṣṇu, Guruḥ Devo Maheśvaraḥ... Guruḥ Viṣṇu... Life is a mystery, and its most hidden blessing is happiness. In the endless universe, all beings are eternally hungry seekers for it. Rare are those who are able, by searching deeply and permanently in the ocean of life, to extract that seed. It is the seed of Paramānanda—complete, impassable, exhilarating happiness. This inspiration is the crown of self-knowledge, derived from the knowledge of God. Those who are rich in this blessing are called wise, self-realized saints. It is a great honor to meet such a divine saint as Dharma Samrāṭ Paramahaṁsa Śrī Svāmī Madhavānandajī. His character and His word have unquestionably enriched our lives. Dear seekers, this life is very precious and it has been graciously given by Paramātmā. Through it, the ātman directly experiences Paramātmā. The jīvātman, wandering through countless births and suffering, has been endowed with this human body so that all sorrows may cease, and one may attain the supreme bliss and joy. Never again does he go into sorrow, nor does he stray from the path of sādhanā, satsaṅga, and sat. Śrī Svāmī Madhavānandajī, who is eternally inscribed in our hearts as our Holy Gurujī, was born on September 11, 1923, in India, in Rajasthan, the land of heroes and saints, here in the village of Nepal. His father, Śrīlāl Caṇḍājī Garg, who lived the life of a brāhmaṇa, and his noble mother, Śrīmatī Sarasvatī Devī Garg, gave him the name Tek Caṇḍa Garg. The young Tek Caṇḍa grew up here, in the harsh beauty of the Rajasthan desert. He grew up with his mother’s stories about Kṛṣṇa and her never-forgotten words that love towards God is more important than life itself. When he turned seventeen years old, the prayers of the deeply inspired and spirit-hungry Tek Caṇḍa brought him face to face with the divine ocean of grace, with Bhagavān Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇ Mahāprabhujī. While looking at Śrī Mahāprabhujī, the young man saw the beautiful divine figure of Śrī Kṛṣṇa. Gurujī described the depth of his experience of that moment as follows: "My eyes were filled with tears, and I fell on my knees. I knew that I had found the eternal light of my life. I finally found my home." From that moment on, he became a śiṣya, a true disciple who completely dedicated his body, mind, and soul to his teacher. Simply and permanently, Mahāprabhujī became his life. Mahāprabhujī’s character, Mahāprabhujī’s speech, and Mahāprabhujī’s name were the embodiment of the divine for him. When he was 19 years old, Tek Caṇḍa became a monk. Mahāprabhujī initiated him into sannyāsa in the order dedicated to God, self-knowledge, and service to all beings. It was not an ordinary initiation, but Paramahaṁsa Sannyās Dīkṣā, the highest spiritual initiation. He who was searching under the leadership of Gurudeva is currently achieving samādhi, the highest consciousness of self-knowledge. The further life of Śrī Mahāprabhujī was a gradual but constant strengthening of Paramahaṁsa Mādhavānandajī in the highest spiritual experience. Here in the Āśram in Kāṭu and for many years here in the Balāgudā Āśram, Holy Gurujī was deified under the leadership of Śrī Mahāprabhujī in the nectar of His mercy and the fire of Askēza. So, under the merciful wing of Śrī Mahāprabhujī, Paramahaṁsa Mādhavānandajī, the divine abode, the knower of Brahman, the witness and the voice of unity between God and man, took flight. After Mahāprabhujī, in 1963, left this world by entering the Mahāsamādhi—the last and irreversible connection with his divine nature—Śrī Madhavānandajī, as his spiritual heir, took care of the āśrams in Kailāś, Pāguḍī, and Kāṭhū as places of unforgettable memories of life with his divine teacher. Upon the permission of Śrī Mahāprabhujī, he built an āśram in his native Nepal and also established āśrams in Jaipur, Jāḍaṇ, and New Delhi. Full of his Guru Bhakti and the essence of meditation, Holy Gurujī continued to convey the light of his Guru Deva. He taught the glory of Ātmā and Paramātmā from village to village, from city to city, from continent to continent. The Lord grants supreme bliss to beings burning in the hundredfold fire. Seeing the world ablaze, the Lord sent down the vessel of knowledge. Congratulations to those who extinguish the fire of suffering. Beings throughout the world are burning in the cage of desire, anger, delusion, greed, worry, and thirst; seeing this, the Lord created the restless clouds. The power of those whose immortality is established silences all accusations. The spiritual joy of the saints is complete only when they have someone to share it with. Holy Gurujī was a tireless speaker of tolerance, respect, and understanding among nations, cultures, and religions, as well as a true force of world peace. All people belong to one religion, and that is humanity. He was the powerful voice of Advaita, not of dualism. Zvani Nol Olimp Bhajjana. Like Mahatma Gandhi, Gurujī taught the ancient Vedic truth of Ahiṃsā, Paramodharma. Non-violence is the highest religion. A talented singer, he often taught the singing of bhajana, songs that sing the glory of the highest spiritual knowledge. The strength and inspiration for teaching and serving humanity, Gurujī drew from the depths of meditation. The central point of meditation was his mantra, the divine name of his Guru Deva. Every movement of these grains was sung by Gurujī’s love for Mahāprabhujī. Every day, absolutely every day, Gurujī prayed for at least eighteen hours and repeated the name of God. Such persistence, such dedication is not possible without Parabhakti, love without remnant. Only love of such purity and intensity goes through all obstacles and removes all obstacles between us and God. Only such magnificent love, without remnant and calculation, saves from the torture of ego and the agony of ignorance. Such a saint no longer belongs to himself; he belongs to God. He no longer has himself, but therefore he has everything; he has God. Śrī Madhavānandajī is eternal life, healing, and testimony that it is possible. Carried with such knowledge, Gurujī wrote the biography of his Gurujī under the name of Līlā Amṛta. This book describes a part of the eternal story of the presence of God on this planet through his spiritual ancestors, through Śrī Alakhpurījī, Śrī Devpurījī, and Śrī Mahāprabhujī. For his spiritual achievements and service to humanity, Holy Gurujī was awarded the title of Dharma Cakra Vṛtti, the one who maintains in movement the point of spirituality. At Mahākumbha Melā in Allahabad in 2001, Sumeru Pīṭeśwar Śrī Śaṅkarācārya awarded him the title of Dharma Samrāṭ, King of Dharma, King of Spirituality. Thus, the physical body of Śrī Mādhavānandajī became a living temple and a living testimony of Paramātmā. Holy Gurujī spent 80 years in his physical body as a living blessing. And after the 80th birthday, what comes to everyone in form, in time and space, is inevitable. Gurujī’s immortal, divine ātmā left her deathbed. On October 31, 2003, his consciousness melted with the Cosmic Consciousness. The day of the final purification came. The ashram was filled with thousands of people, thousands of bhaktas from all continents. This way, it was easier to endure the personal pain of losing Gurudeva. The divine body, this divine temple in which the saint lived, in which Gurudeva lived and taught, he was moving on his last journey through this ashram. Sitting upright and dignified in the magnificent death, as it was in his life, Holy Gurujī was surrounded by a mass of people, walking on the known path. Every step, a bouquet of flowers. Every step, full of memories. Memories are filled with the pain of losing the passing one, but they are also filled with a gentle gratitude for the presence that is given through the passing one. The love and joy of belonging that Gurujī had with his Gurujī, he got from his disciple Swāmī Maheśvarānanda. Śrī Māheśvarānandajī was 13 years old when he connected his life with Holy Gurujī. Then he handed over the pure vessel of his child to his teacher to fill it with the divine nectar of immortality. The strong power of Gurujī’s devotion, discipline, and knowledge has found in Swāmījī a perfectly ready and willing soul. There are very few students who can be completely devoted, who can be enlightened, and who can understand the immense greatness of the blessings that Gurujī possesses and offers. Swamiji, as an incarnated Mahātma, perfectly fulfilled Gurujī’s world. It is not only that his spiritual awakening was fast and complete, which every teacher wants for his disciple, but that Maheśvara Nandajī is the incarnation of service. Thanks to Swamijī, Gurujī was able to peacefully spend the final years of his life in the abode of his Viśvadīpa, in the divine light of the universe, knowing that his disciple, with his immense will of Mahāyoga and his indescribable love for all beings, not wasting any time on himself or his life, he spreads the wisdom of yoga and the glory of Mahāprabhujī. Gurujī’s little and Swamijī’s work perfectly fulfilled the gift of both. They made each other whole, and this world better. It was a special joy for Holy Gurujī to bring divine light to Śrī Māheśvarānanda Jī with his blessing. Thus, through Śrī Māheśvarānanda Jī, the spiritual line of Śrī Alakhpurījī, Śrī Devpurījī, and Śrī Mahāprabhujī continued its divine mission. The air vibrated with mantras, prayers, and bhajans. Thousands of bhaktas gave their breath to their pain. We have slowly reached the place of the future temple, where Gurujī’s body will be permanently worshiped. Carried in the hands of his sannyāsīs, whose guru and perfect example he was, Gurujī is placed in his samādhi. Sannyāsī, who did not want anything, and vairāgī, to whom everything except God was insignificant, smeštenje na svoj kraljevski presto kao oličenje čistog duha spoznatog i življenog u ovom ljudskom telu, Śrī Madhavānandajī. Holy Gurujī in death, in Mahāsamādhi, remained immensely beautiful and majestic. Such he will remain in the memory of his bhaktas and the memory of his successors. Final moments of farewell under the guidance of Śrī Śaṅkarācārya. A moment of stillness and silence. In the eternal glory of the One who blessed our lives so abundantly, Bhagavān, Hindu Dharma Samrāṭ, Dharma Cakra Vṛtti, Paramahaṁsa, Śrī Svāmī Madhavānanda Jī Purī Jī, has gone into eternity. We remain in the present, deeply saddened by His departure and immensely rich in what He has given us. Holy Gurujī, who spent all his inner and outer life in front of the altar and became the altar himself, became a divine sight with a pure and eternal message. "I am the body" is ignorance. I am pure consciousness and wisdom.
