Simply be good

Yoga is the ancient science of body, mind, consciousness, and soul, serving as the balancing principle within the endless universe. This cosmic balance manifests as the five elements, from which the human body is formed. Human life, one among 8.4 million creatures, is distinguished by intellect and specific qualities. True education cultivates these human qualities—love, kindness, forgiveness—while negative tendencies like fear and selfishness arise from imbalance. This imbalance is a psychic illness rooted in the subconscious, where past impressions become desires. The mind cannot be stopped, but it can be directed by controlling the senses and purifying one's thoughts. The physical body is mortal, yet within it resides the immortal soul, a divine self that is never born and never dies. Through yoga practice, the hidden energies within the body's chakras can be awakened to purify qualities and realize this cosmic unity. The ultimate aim is harmony, leading to the unity of the individual self with the cosmic self.

"Yoga means the balancing principle in this endless universe."

"Where there is balance, there is harmony: harmony of body, mind, and soul."

Śubhaṃ Karoṭi Kalyāṇam Ārogyaṃ Dhanāśyampada Śatrubdhi Vinaśāya Dīpyotir Namastute O Śānti, Śānti, Śānti. Salutation to the Cosmic Light, Lord of our hearts, Omniscient and Omnipresent. In His Divine Presence, dear brothers and sisters, good evening. I also would like to say that though I am very busy, I always have enough time for Zlín. I have known Zlín since 1974, and yoga and life have been active here since then. My first lecture in Zlín was in 1975, and a retreat program was in a place called Kopná. I welcome here Dr. Kajdušková, Alena, the Member of Parliament, Senator, the President of Yoga and Daily Life, and all the brothers and sisters. Indeed, it is my great pleasure to be here and to serve you with my limited knowledge, to introduce you or give you some glimpse of yoga. Yoga, especially yoga in daily life, is well known in your country and practiced by thousands, or may I say, more than a million people. It has been active since 1973. My first lecture was in March 1973 in Opava. Though at that time you had another government, yoga was always welcomed because yoga is above religious dogma. Yoga is not politics in the way people may think. Yoga is a science of body, mind, consciousness, and soul. It is one of the most ancient sciences. How old is yoga? What is yoga? What can be gained from it? What can you get through yoga? What does human life mean, and what are the hidden talents within human consciousness? These are the few points I would like to explain. The universe, which is known as endless, has no end. Within the universe is what is called universal consciousness. The universe is like a divine mother, and within the body of the mother resides the cosmic consciousness. That is called Hiraṇya Garbha, the Golden Womb or Golden Embryo. That Golden Embryo is the Cosmic Consciousness, and part of that Cosmic Consciousness is also yourself. Between the universe and universal consciousness, there is a third principle which unites these both together, meaning consciousness and space. That means space and consciousness are balancing together. That principle is known as yoga. Yoga means the balancing principle in this endless universe. In perfect balance and calmness, the Cosmic Consciousness is residing. Nothing was created. Empty, dark, empty, dark space. The fourth principle begins, and that is called the divine will, what we call, "God, thy will be done." What is that divine will? That divine will we call in the Vedas or in the ancient literatures, "Eko’haṁ bahu syām"—"I am one and I will multiply myself." Multiplying means that everything created in this endless universe is a part of that cosmic self. That will awakens in the form of sound. That is called OM, which I was chanting before. The form of Parabrahma, the form of the Supreme, is resonance. Through that resonance in the Ākāśa Tattva, the ether element, the second element begins: the element of fire. So, space or ether and fire. Through that fire and space begins the air element. Through the air, water, and space come the water element and the earth. These are the five elements, and our body is manifested out of these five elements. Ānanda Brahmāṇḍa Śāstra: Sūrya’s endless universe and thousands of sun systems, declares the Vedas. The Vedas are among the most ancient scriptures existing in mankind. In written form, about eight thousand years ago, before this wisdom was delivered from master to disciple. The Vedas said, "Ananta Brahmāṇḍa, Sahasra Sūrya"—endless universe and thousands of sun systems. All these planets and stars, Moon and Sun, visible and invisible, elements, they are balanced by one principle, and that is yoga. It is yoga which is balancing our body, all the functions in the body, mind, intellect, emotion, and consciousness, and so on. There must be some power which keeps balance, and that is yoga. So now you can tell how old yoga is. Where there is balance, there is harmony. There should be a perfect balance between body, mind, and consciousness, intellect and emotion. If a person is unbalanced, then the hidden tendency of fear awakens. It is the fear which awakens another hidden power or tendency: selfishness, jealousy, greediness, ego, proudness. These hidden talents are very negative in our body. These are the destructive powers. These are the psychic illnesses. Why is this? Because the balance is missing. You talk about yoga, but you did not practice yoga. So just try, and then see the miracle of it in such a natural way. Where there is balance, there is harmony: harmony of body, mind, and soul. When there is harmony, automatically there appears a oneness or unity. Unity means the unity of the individual self with the cosmic self. But first, there should be unity within ourselves. Happiness, peace, harmony, kindness, love, mercy, friendship—that begins from one’s own heart. If you do not have friends, if you do not have these qualities, you are an imbalanced person. What to do in order to get the balance? No medicine will help you. No drugs will help you, but I tell you, yoga and daily life will help you. It does not need anything, only practicing: one hour morning, one hour evening, or one and a half hour morning and half hour evening. You should take time for yourself. You have 24 hours, and in 24 hours you should have three hours for thyself. If you are here, everything is here: mother, father, wife, children, husband, house, money, joy, friends, sports, eating, drinking—everything is only there if you are here. Your being here, I wish as a healthy person. One who is not healthy, his life is nearly destroyed. The one who is not healthy, his life is almost destroyed, and he is out of balance. That is why yoga practices should help us, without a doubt, and they will help. Well, out of these thousands of sun systems and the planets within those sun systems, one is our beautiful planet Earth. Our motherland, Mother Earth. We love this planet. We belong to this planet. Oh, it is beautiful everywhere. All the continents on this planet have their beauty, beautiful culture. We do not want to die. We want to be here. But what to do? One day we have to die. We have to make place for others because this planet is known as Mṛtyu Loka, the mortal world. Whoever is born will die, and whoever dies will be born. It is renewing, rebirth. Some believe, and some do not believe. But be sure that belief does not change the reality. Reality will not change if I believe. So, whether you believe it or not, there is rebirth. If you do not like it, do not believe it. We will talk about it in the next life again. Now, from this ancient language, what is called rebirth, modern science has taken the word and put it in another form, and that is called recycling. Do you believe in recycling? If you believe in the recycling process, then where is the problem in believing in rebirth? It is very simple. Now, on this planet, the Creator has created 8.4 million different creatures, which are divided into three categories: Jalchar, Thalchar, and Nabchar—the creatures which live in the water, the creatures which live on the earth, and the creatures which live in the air. These all together are 8.3 million. And one of them is the human. If you do not believe, you may count and next time tell me. Now, all these creatures are created by one creator. One creator has created all the creatures. "Ekoham, I am one. Bahūśyāmi, I will multiply myself." All creatures are the light of God. All are the children of God. No different. Out of them, one is the human, and the human God is the most powerful tool. And that tool is known as intellect. Humans need education for their intellect. For the human intellect, education is necessary. The human intellect is very flexible. It can be easily influenced. According to that education, people become the way they are educated. If you educate someone as a terrorist, he becomes a terrorist. When you teach someone to be a thief, he becomes a thief. When you teach someone to be a driver, you become a driver. If you go to a doctor’s school, you become a doctor. It depends on how you are educated. Education is very important for human life. Knowledge makes a human. The human has some qualities which other animals cannot realize and do not have because the intellect of other creatures is not so far and capable. Those are called the qualities of the humans. What are the human qualities? They make us human. When we know the human qualities, then we will know the value of human life. When we know the values of human life, it is because we know the qualities of the human. Then we will understand what human rights mean: to protect human rights. Unless we understand the values of human life, we do not use human rights, but we abuse human rights, which creates constant troubles in the world. The world war has not ended yet. There are a lot of people; everyday, innocent people are killed. Not by animals, but humans are killing humans. What a pity. What ignorance. That we humans kill our humans is a lack of knowledge, a lack of that education of brotherhood. Vasudeva Kuṭumbakam: the entire world is one family, the family of one God. There are no two gods; there is only one God. Eko Brahma Dvitīyo Nāsti: the supreme one is only one. That cosmic consciousness is only one. But, time to time, some holy saints incarnate. You may call them God incarnate, and that is what you call Rāma, or Krishna who danced, or Buddha, or Jesus, and so on. But ultimately, they are all in one, and that is only the one God. And we all believe in the same God. That is, only humans can understand what God is. Perhaps the existence of God is discovered by humans. That one is with everyone. Education: there are two kinds of education. One education is from the parents, mother and father: family education, with love, with understanding, spiritual education. The second education is our school education. Unfortunately, in our present time, in this modern world, so to call, the parents are not capable of educating their children. That is why these young kids tend to the drug situation. They go away from home in the evening. Your little kids are waiting to become 12, 13, and 18 years old so they can go anywhere they want. Why? Because you are not capable of giving them what they need. Because you are not able to give them what they need. Your children do not need money. They need your love and your wisdom, and that is the first education. The education of the parents should make you aware of what it means to be a human: knowledge. Janhina Paśuṣamāna: who has no knowledge is like an animal. This human, which is one out of 8.4 million, the creator has created him as a protector, not as a distractor. Protect humanity, protect the environment, and protect all creatures. Love your neighbor means all after us. That will make Earth a heaven again. That will bring world peace. Well, the next point is the human body, human mind, human consciousness, and human soul. The human body is a very mysterious body. In this body, there is an immense amount of Śakti power which is dormant. But we need to awaken those centers in our brain. At the same time, this body is a mortal body; it will die. And this body needs healthy nourishment. If there is a diesel motor, and you put petrol inside, then you will destroy the motor. Which is a petrol motor, and you put water inside, you will destroy it. So this human motor is a water motor. But in this water motor, if you put alcohol inside, it will be destroyed. You know, my dear. How many families and children are suffering because one of the parents is alcoholic? How many marriages break because of alcohol? How much crime is there because of alcohol? We should use our brain. Do not take destructive things. This body is mortal, but keep it as long as this body can. I told you before, if you are here, everything is here. If you are not here, nothing is here: your house, your parents, your friends, your money, your profession, your position—it is gone. Be here, but healthy. So, yoga will support your body to be healthy. In this body, God has given ten senses. These ten senses are five senses of knowledge and five senses of action. Whatever we receive, that is received through the senses of knowledge. How we act and do something, this is the senses of action. Whatever you do, you can only do with the five senses. And whatever you receive, there are only five keys through which you can receive: eyes, through looking, we get knowledge, colors, information; ears through the sound; nose through the smell; tongue, the taste; and the skin, the touch. So whatever we receive from the external world is received by these five senses. When we receive this information, it is raw material. This raw material is transferred to the subconscious. We have five levels of consciousness: unconscious, dormant consciousness—like we do not know what is underground, but there is something. That is the unconscious level, the subconscious. Between conscious and unconscious, we will come to this point after. Consciousness: now we are awakened. Superconsciousness: the consciousness of meditation, higher consciousness. Cosmic consciousness is when your consciousness merges into the cosmic consciousness. Unconsciousness is a level of our past life. Where there is our destiny, it is dormant. You believe in your good luck and you believe in your bad luck, so good luck and bad luck. Where is that? Where did you have your good luck? That is on an unconscious level, whatever happened in our past life. Subconsciousness is the consciousness which begins from the first day of life in the mother’s womb. How you have been received by your mother, in which situation she was, in which situation your father was, what were the family circumstances, and how was the pregnancy time—that influences your subconscious, your birth. Your school time, whatever you experienced till today, before one minute, half a minute, all this is stored in the subconsciousness. The subconsciousness sometimes acts in such a way that we do not understand because we lost the memory of it. Therefore, in psychology, it is said that it is a psychic problem. But what is a psychic? Psychic problems are those problems which are hidden in your subconsciousness. Consciousness is awakened now. All the five senses are active and receiving all the information. So, receiving the information, transferring it to the subconscious. In the subconscious, all these impressions begin to sprout as desires, and these desires come up into the conscious. Consciousness is connected with the intellect. Intellect’s duty is to give judgment: what is what? These desires which come up, the intellect has to modify them and then transport them to those senses which are desiring. For example, you want to eat some good things. You want to see good things. There are many desires, but the cause of this desire is in the past, from a few minutes, days, or years ago. And then they rise from the subconscious. Then it is transferred from the conscious mind to the subconscious. And then that information is transferred from the subconscious to the conscious. This coordination, this function, is called mind: the mind. Now, if you block your mind, stop your mind, then you will have psychic problems. You cannot control the mind in this way. Many people who practice yoga or some spiritual techniques are doing it wrong. They say, "I want to control my mind. I want to stop my mind." It will not happen. The mind is like a river, and you cannot block the river. If you block the river, then the dam will overflow and break, and there will be a big flood, a distractive flood. We cannot block the river, but we can direct the river. Similarly, we cannot stop the mind, but we can direct our feelings toward a particular aim. When the mind is trying to stop, then all the psychic problems will appear. Therefore, first understand the mind. Do not control the mind, but control your senses. Limit your needs. Purify, control your thinking—your thinking towards jealousy, towards anger, hate, greediness. Control your thinking and your senses; then your mind will be calm. And you will know thyself. What is within you? The individual quality that makes the individual soul. The soul is a consistence of your qualities. As long as your karma exists, you will exist as an individual soul. Even after death, your individual soul will exist in this class. Someone who brought water put 20 grams of salt in this cup. Now, I do not see the salt; you do not see the salt. Clean, transparent. Why? Why do we not see the salt? Because the solid form changes into the liquid form. When the physical body dies, the soul merges into the astral world. But the astral world is not the reality that is supreme. There is a soul existing, coming and going. If not, then in the month of November, the beginning of November, you go to the cemetery and give flowers to your ancestors. You go to the church and pray for past souls. Where are the past souls? Sooner or later, they have to come back. Salt changes the solid form into the liquid form. And now I drink the water. Yes, salty. Inside is salt. What does this mean? Changing form means not changing the quality. Quality decides, quality unites. So we all who are sitting here have different qualities, different karma, and therefore, we are existing as individuals. On the day when our individual qualities change into the cosmic qualities, it will take not even seconds to become one with the Cosmic. But the problem is there: we changed the form, but the saltiness is still there. So you die, but still you are there with these qualities. What to do? Yoga. Therefore, the best way to purify the qualities is to pray to God. Go to the church, to the temple, or wherever you are. Prayers will purify your heart and your mantra. The science of mantra is great. You would not believe how great it is. Perhaps next time we will talk about mantra. So that is our soul. This physical body, the body of nourishment, needs pure, balanced, organic, vegetarian food. It seeks pure, balanced, organic, vegetarian food. With noble ideas of living, do not kill. Non-violence. That is a noble idea, a noble thought, the noble way of living because that protects you. If you protect, you will be protected. Dharma urakṣita rakṣitaha. If you will protect your dharma, your duties, then your principles will also protect you. If you protect your dharma, your duties, your principles, they will protect you. We have five different bodies. Today we are talking only about this one body. Five bodies are: the body of nourishment, solid and liquid nourishment; the body of energy; the mental body; the intellectual body; and the causal body. These are the five bodies. Within the five bodies is the soul, and within the soul is the light of immortality. And that light is your real self. We are not this body, we are not mind, we are not emotion, we are not intellect, but we are the Divine Self. That Divine Self is never born and will never die. Undescribable, everlasting, and that is your Self. The body will be born, the body will die, not you. Where we are sitting in this room, this hall, it has more than 1,000 square meters, but one day, long ago, when there was no hall here, it was 5,000 hectares of land. Then someone bought, occupied, and made the room. Now it is a hall. When we remove this hall, space will be one with the space. You can divide the walls, but not the space. You cannot burn the space, you cannot cut the space, no weapons can destroy it, no elements can destroy it, and death cannot destroy it. The space will remain space. So thy Self will remain always thy Self. And the identity of thyself is that cosmic Self. But that has to be realized, and for that, God was gracious enough. We are the fortunate ones. God gave us a human body. And in the human body are those hidden powers through which we can realize and come out of the chain of rebirth and death. In this body, there are 72,000 nāḍīs. Out of 72,000 nerves, there are three most important: Iḍā, Piṅgalā and Suṣumnā. These are three nāḍīs: sympathetic, parasympathetic and central nervous system. The left nostril, which is connected to the sympathetic system, controls, balances, and awakens our emotions. Our mind is connected with this sympathetic. The right nostril is connected with the sun, with our intellect. And the central nāḍī is balancing our consciousness. These three nāḍīs, these three nerves begin from the small of the brain and go straight parallel to the spinal column. The suṣumnā, the conscious nāḍī, is going straight. The moon and sun, they are moving like this. Energy, dynamical movement, and where they come together, there becomes one powerful cakra, energy center, and likewise it goes till the end of the spinal column. And chakras are throughout the whole body, from the beginning toes to the top of the head. But the dominating centers are those eight chakras. Chakras from the foot soles, beginning to the ankle joints, belong to the earth chakras. From the ankle joints to the knees belongs to the lower consciousness, and plants, vegetation, like reptiles, and so on. From the knees to the hip joints, they are animal chakras. From the bottom of the spinal column, till the throat, or where the spinal column is ending, there are human chakras. And from the end of the spinal column to the entire head, there are the divine chakras. Now, in different chakras, different energies are located. Awakening of the kuṇḍalinī, awakening of the energy means awakening of the chakras. You have heard about kuṇḍalinī, maybe? Or, have you not heard about kuṇḍalinī? Some people think the awakening of kuṇḍalinī is like a snake going up, or that it is dangerous. No, there is no snake, and there is no danger. If something is happening in your body which is unpleasant, and it is like a fear comes out, that is not the awakening of kuṇḍalinī, but some psychic problems. Awakening of the kuṇḍalinī means awakening of the wisdom, awakening of the happiness, and awakening of the certainty, the love. Therefore, this kuṇḍalinī śakti goes through each cakra and purifies your cakras. And in the chakras, there are hidden powers. Each chakra we can talk about for weeks and weeks. There is one book, it is called "Hidden Powers in Humans." Something is written in this, which is also available in your language now. And in that book, all of that is described and exists in your language. Awake the good qualities of the human: love. Now, when we talk about love, humans understand it differently immediately. But that love, which you love everyone equally—as long as universal love does not enter in your heart... As soon as universal love comes in your heart, you are that mother which embraces everyone. You are that child that every mother will take in hand, or brother, anybody. When you see a small baby, how your love awakes from your heart. That is a universal love. Love, understanding, forgiveness, kindness, helpfulness—these are the human qualities. And the animal qualities, or the devil qualities: anger, jealousy, hate, complexes, greediness, ego—these are the animal qualities. And these are in our chakras, in Mūlādhāra and Svādhiṣṭhāna. Try to come up. Do not fall in. But the problem is like this: your hands are very oily. And there is a very soft stone, polished. Around stone, two kilos. Now you have to take and bring it up. Your hand is oily, always it slips down. And that is our oily means we have a lot of desires, bad karmas. Always you fall down. Understand the chakras and awake them. So, out of this all, I will tell you what you should do. Do one thing. Every day, when you get up in the morning, tell yourself, "I would like to be good." Tell yourself, "Be good to everyone." Every creature: ant, elephant, flower, mountain, river—be good. You know, this one word, "be good," can change the entire world. Simply, say to yourself, "Be good." To znači biti i pošten. U toj reči je sve koncentrisano. Zato, kad ustanete, reci sebi. Budi dobar. Budi dobar prema svojim roditeljima, prijateljima, djeci, itd. To će probuditi skrivene snage. And you will get the realization. Yoga is the science of body, mind, and consciousness and God realization. There is a God. There is a realization. There is a reality. So I bless you in the name of all the holy incarnations of this globe with good health, long life, and a harmonious and happy life in your family, in your society, and in your country. And God bless you. Adios. Thank you. Thank you.
