Change your inner climate

A spiritual discourse on inner transformation and sustainability.

"The hot climate is within the human. The hot climate is within the human thoughts. Everything is created by the mental pollution of the humans."

"Peace begins from one heart, and charity begins from one home... the solution can only be found individually."

From the Střelky Ashram, a speaker addresses an international retreat, drawing a parallel between global environmental crises and the need for inner spiritual balance. The talk critiques modern materialism and attachment, advocating for a return to dharma, meditation, and satsang as the means to achieve a stable "inner climate" and true sustainability.

Dear devotees of Mahāprabhujī, bhaktas around the world, this special blessing is coming to you from the Czech Republic, Śrī Mahāprabhujī's ashram in Střelky, where an international weekend retreat is taking place. The subject is to understand and improve our spirituality and to balance the inner changes—the inner climate change. This is the Střelky Ashram, located nearly in the center of the Czech Republic, surrounded by beautiful hills and nature. It is a castle protected as a national heritage. It has very clean air, a good environment, and all spiritual seekers like to come here for retreat. So many blessings to all of you. In the world, there is a very common topic now; all are talking about climate change, or what they call global warming. It has some truth in it, and something is overdone. Also, we have to correct one word: what they call "greenhouse gases." This is a very wrong word. We are blackmailing or putting a wrong impression in people's minds towards the greenery, the greenness. So it should not be called greenhouse gases, but glasshouse gases. That is a proper word: glass house or plastic house gases. The term "greenhouse gases" is not a scientific word. Well, that's not the subject today. But the matter which is spread around the world—we are frightened, and we are threatened to hear about the climate changes. There is very little explanation, or the solution is very little spoken about this. We know the fact, we know what is happening, and we know why it happens, but what is the solution? Therefore, the solution can only be found individually. It is a matter for all, not only politics. If you make this subject a political matter, then there will be more confusion, then there will be more expenditures. And so-called big companies who are making a lot of business will profit again more, and the solution will not be there. Individually, we have to approach this problem. It is said, "Peace begins from one heart, and charity begins from one home." And therefore, the answer is there, but people do not want to accept this. The hot climate is within the human. The hot climate is within the human thoughts. Everything is created by the mental pollution of the humans, and therefore we have to find the sustainable development within the human phenomenon. If humans will turn towards the ancient way of living and follow the instructions of the holy saints... Mother Earth, or this planet—this planet is a living planet, it is not a dead planet. But if the human will continue to destroy this for the sake of their greed, it will kill this planet. This planet is a living planet, and this planet is a holy Earth, a holy planet. Out of our knowledge, as far as we can go or we have researched and we have meditated, there is no planet somewhere nearby, some billion kilometers, where the soul has residence, where God has its residence, where the mercy, the compassion, the kindness, the love, the harmony is existing. I think all creatures and the souls from the different parts of the universe are coming for a retreat to this planet. And it is said in the Upaniṣad: All should be happy on this planet. The whole planet is one family of one God. Why family? Because family means harmony, understanding, love, friendship, and care for each other. If we take these words or the mantras from the Upaniṣads, we can realize this. Whenever God manifests, he manifests on this planet. There are two kinds of incarnations. One is called Nitya and one is Nimitta. Nimitta incarnation is that which, from time to time, incarnates to solve that kind of problem which is a global problem. He comes and he destroys the negative and establishes again the Dharma. He removes the Adharma and again establishes the Dharma. Dharma is the life of all creatures. Adharma is distraction, fighting, greediness, jealousy, anger, and so many things. Therefore, Kṛṣṇa speaks to Arjuna: whenever the adharma takes over and dharma is suffering, "O Arjuna, I come to destroy the adharma, to establish and protect my bhaktas, and to establish the dharma." Dharma, if you accept the dharma and dharma is within you, it's not outside. And if you act according to the dharma, your life will become comfortable and happy. At the Kali Yuga time now, Kali Yuga is in power, and therefore it is said that Dharma is suffering. Bhakti, Vairāgya, Jñāna, and Dharma are in the position of suffering. It is true that from the very beginning of this universe, Daivī and Āsurī Śaktis have a competition, a fighting. But satyameva jayate—finally the truth will win, the dharma will win. At this time, adharma is spread, and through this adharma, the human became inwardly blind. So the inner changes in the human, this inner climate is changing. Inner climate changing means you have so many temptations. Your husband comes home and tells you, "I am sorry, you know that we love each other, but I think I have come to a point where we can't be together. I have another friend, and we will divorce." Now, what happened to you? What happened to the family? What happens with the friends, both sides, not only her family and her part, but also his family and his part. This is called climate change, the inner climate change. Do you think you will be happy? No. Because you changed another climate, and that will again take revenge. Don't go against nature; otherwise, nature will have its revenge. That was only one example. So whenever you change your path, whenever you change your belief, whenever you change your thoughts, whenever you change your behavior, whenever you change your profession, whenever you change your flat or house, or you change your car or your horse—that time there were no cars—and your cows, it changes the inner climate, and also when someone dies. Then a big change takes place, a lot of suffering. Then there are two. It is said, "Blood is thicker than water." Blood is thicker than water. It means if you are having a blood relation, then you will suffer more. And when someone dies, and you are not capable of understanding and accepting this transaction from the astral life to the material life, and from material life to the person who is experiencing this climate change of unhappiness... Attachment becomes, within a few months or a few weeks, more older. Because healthy cells die. As long as you are crying and have sorrow, it kills in you many, many things. That's a climate change, the inner climate change. So if you change your business, if you change anything, the changes take place, and that harms you, your family members, or your business partners and so on. In this Kali Yuga, we think money is God, and it seems it is like that, unfortunately. When the billionaire comes, we will say, "Oh, please come, welcome, come sit in the front, come here." And when someone who came hitchhiking, with no place, no money, and also no money to pay for retreats, or... anything, we said, "Okay? Well, come, not welcome, well come. Okay, sit down." You see, though we do not give the first place to the money, we are affected by this. So, in this Nimitta incarnation, Nimitta Avatāra is like this: it comes and changes. Maybe sometimes we think... There's no ahiṃsā when you have to go to the operation theater. You are lying on the table, and the doctor is coming, having a dark green dress and gloves and mask everywhere, and knife, scissors. We may think he has no ahiṃsā, and then it's very big. Injection only from looking, we are like this trembling, and this beautiful stomach, very nice stomach, just no, I am sure. But after, when he did all operations, you feel so good, and everyone is happy. "Thanks to Mahāprabhujī, everything went well then." You say, "Doctor, thank you, doctor. Thank you very much, doctor. I am so glad and very thankful to you, doctor. Before, I was thinking, 'No, I am sorry.'" So when Nimitta Avatāra, the God incarnates, it is said till now there are twenty-four incarnations. The twenty-third was already, and the twenty-fourth, which is known, is known as the Kalī Avatāra. Avatāra, the incarnation in Kali Yuga. And he is waiting to see how far the humans will go with this climate change, the inner climate, how far they will destroy this planet. We hope that Kālī will not come as atom bombs. In which way he acts, we don't know. Operation, there is also military operation, but definitely he will not act in that way. Kali-Avatāra. And when that Avatāra, Nimitta-Avatāra comes, even if you shoot him with a gun, a bullet, it goes like in the air, nothing happens to him. If he makes it like this, out of your guns will come only flowers. And it is the preparation for this Kali Yuga to come, the Kali Avatāra. Some change has to come. Not only that we destroy nature, but mostly what we destroy is our inner climate. Mahāprabhujī said: O mind, you lost everything with the company of the Kuṣaṅgī. You lost jñāna, dhyāna, bhakti. And your behavior is very peculiar. So, Nimitta Avatāra comes time to time. And then, Nitya Avatāra. Nitya means every day, every time. And Nityāvatāra is known as the holy sands, which Tulsīdāsjī in the holy Rāmāyaṇa describes: Chalta phirta tīrtha—a holy place, a pilgrim, a mobile pilgrim, the sands are moving. And therefore, it is said, which I told yesterday, so this is the Nitya Avatāra. And that Nitya Avatāra is constantly preaching and giving the spiritual injections to the humans. If a human would not get the spiritual injections, the human will show their real nature, and the most dangerous creature, the most dangerous one, is the human. We are all sitting here nicely because we have spiritual injections, spiritual injections with the feeling of the sin first, as injection of the sin, and then comes the injection of the dharma, the good. Pious? Every holy book, every religion, speaks about two things: sin and pious, good and bad. Bad means suffering, and good means happy and free. And these are the teachings, the words which are given by those great seers, Nityāvatāra. And therefore, when we meditate and we cannot concentrate, always problems come, always many thoughts come. It means your inner climate is not in balance. The rain comes when we don't need it, the dry weather comes when we don't need it, the cold comes when we don't need it, and the heat comes when we don't need it. The fruits don't come at the right time, and the seasonal fruits are lost in the middle. Of the winter we eat cherries here, and in the middle of the summer we eat ice cream, completely upside down change. But this change which took place in the human's inner climate made the humans more unhappy, suffering from many diseases which attack. Now, the humans never in the histories, never, and there is no one is that much ill in this, on this planet, except humans. All other creatures are very healthy, but the humans are the most unhealthiest one, and it is the human who causes the different diseases to the different creatures. Are you ready to change yourself? Are you ready to work for sustainable development within you? Yes, then you have to change the way of your life, the way of your thinking. I spoke yesterday about a world peace conference which we had in New Zealand. The very expert scientists came and spoke, and they also taught the cause of the climate change, global warming. They said New Zealand, which has a very, very much pollution, though when you come there, you feel it is so clean air, no dust. It's like our Alps mountains, but our Alpine mountains are higher and they are smaller. But it is said there are six million people only, only so evening after, at a certain time, eight o'clock, you don't see anybody in the street, so little people. But they have more than 60 million sheep and more than 15, or 16 million cows. Do they drink so much milk? Six million people have 16 million cows. How many cows per head? I am not very bad always in the mathematic. How many cows per head? So, four cows, three cows. We cannot cut a cow in two parts. One cow gives, one cow gives at least 20 liters of milk: morning, noon, evening. Two cows give 40 liters. And three cows give 30 liters or 60 liters. Does one human consume 60 liters of milk per day? Oh, human, there should be a border to your desires. Even you can bathe every day in milk, but still it's too much. You can fill your bathtub. Normal is counting 80 liters per head of water. When you are using, they count in the household. 80 liters per head, except when you are doing Saṅkta Prakāśalana, then you are flushing often. And 60 million for 6 million people, how many sheep per head? Now, these ten sheep, how much wool do they give? Do they have so many blankets? No. And they said the pollution and all this, what they call ozone damage, is from these animals' gases, not green gases, not greenhouse gases. Well, greenhouse gas was the only example. There is a heat and humidity, and heat that is an example was only. New Zealand people are very, very conscious about environment and health, then why don't they reduce the sheep? Very rare people would like to be vegetarian. If then, they are only vegetarian when they are giving lectures, but after that lecture, when the lunch break comes, they want to know where is their mutton. This is, this didn't change the inner climate, didn't change the way of thinking. God gave enough for your eating, not torturing these animals, and when the prices fall down, in order to keep the price, they destroy that flesh or the meat, not to come to the market. And you never know how many years old it comes to you from some frozen somewhere, and you don't know which illness that animal had. Similarly, the same problem is with the chickens and ducks, and I don't know more, what, the geese or some whatever you call, constantly there's an illness is coming, the bird flu in this. On still, we don't learn. Why don't we say not necessary to breed them more and more? Stop. And the pigs, these are innocent animals. They are innocent animals. They cannot do anything. Now, there's a machine that, from the belt, they near the belt, they open the truck, the cows come on the belt, they are trembling, standing like this, and there's a machine: one side skin, other side bones, and other side comes like, like spaghetti, doused meat. Other cows see, and after three minutes, other cows come. After three, because a man cannot kill so many cows a day and can't work that muscle, everything is mixed with the machines. Can you, as a human, imagine that you are standing, and you know that you will be the next one? We have enough of this from the Holocaust, what they did in the Second World War. That these poor people knew that the next one will be you, who will be pushed into the hall, and the gas will be given inside. So it is the inner climate that changes the outer climate. Spiritual awakening is so sustainable. Inner sustainability is called stable. The stable concentration, the consciousness, the thoughts, everything in you, that comes only through the spiritual injections. Dharma, artha, kāma, mokṣa, jñāna, vairāgya, tapas, svādhyāya, bhakti—these are the main points, and that was the declaration of the creation. The declaration of the creation was dharma, ahiṃsā, compassion, tyāga, vairāgya, bhakti, viveka, and jñāna. This has to be supported in humans, so spiritual declaration. Now, when I came to Europe, in New Delhi someone told me it was in the news on many, many channels. Maybe you have heard the condition of the Americans and British and the soldiers in Iraq and in Iran is a very bad mental condition, and they trained someone especially in Bhagavad Gītā how to get stability in there, and a person is appointed there, and they are getting the lessons of the Bhagavad Gītā. Do you know this? The Europeans now, you know, because this time media didn't want to bring this, that they know the name of the person they saw on the television. In Indian television, the soldiers, and this person is giving them to regenerate again their hope and confidence and to calm down. They are completely out of their climate, and in the last three sessions, in last year's opening of the American Parliament recited the Vedic mantras to get again the real blessings. Also, in California, the governor of California, who is originally Austrian, when they opened the Parliament, the Vedas were chanted. And the śānti mantra from the Vedas was chanted, and then it was opened. It is a science that we have to learn. So whatever problem we are facing, the solution is only one. Change your inner climate, and therefore, meditation. Yoga: chittavṛtti nirodhaḥ. When you will meditate, then you will come to know where is the border of your needs, where is the border of your thoughts, your actions, and where is the devotion, and to put all your thoughts and feelings into one direction, like you put the flowers in one thread to make the garland, the flower mālā. So it is that mantra which penetrates through every thought, and this all thought is caught into one is through your mantra. You will not believe, every fourth person in the world now is meditating according to the yoga techniques. You will not believe how much, and every third person in the world knows and has been practicing or doing the practice of yoga around the world. Doesn't matter which kind of yoga exercises they are doing. But they are doing. Recently, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, a great personality who brought and awakened the consciousness of the people towards meditation around the world, millions of people, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. And there are millions of people today practicing meditation. It's only one person, but there are hundreds or thousands of people around the world who have a very beautiful spiritual saṅkalpa and are doing their best to give to the humans right direction. So this is another spiritual awakening in the consciousness of the humans, and therefore we should practice. Your problem only can be solved if you practice. All listening will inspire you, but the problem which appeared after many, many years, step by step, it cannot be solved at once. If it is a physical problem, that can be solved at once when you die, but it is not. Even if you die, the problem is not solved. Every problem is connected with your destiny. And as I told you yesterday, when your heart is empty, asuras will enter in, and of course, asuras will support the asuras. And when your heart is not empty, it is filled with devotion, with the mantra, spiritualities, and spiritual thoughts, then the divine will reside again, and the divine will invite the divines, the yogīs will invite yogīs for seminar and other will invite other people, and so on. And when you have this divine in heart, and suddenly out of your kusāṅga or some different thoughts, and this you forgotten and is not inside, then the accident happens. Accident means not only the car accident or the road accident or the fire accident. Accident means many, many things. Some we can feel immediately, and some we can't feel immediately, but it will come. Therefore, Mahāprabhujī said, Satsaṅg, a beautiful bhajan, which you can't compare with anything. And satsaṅg, where no money cost, nothing, is freely given to you. But we think what is given free has no value. If there is a charge of 25,000 euros one evening, wow, there must be something—25,000. And when you buy the ticket, even if you don't like it, you want to go because you paid 25,000. But God gave us all free. Oxygen is free. Air is free. Water is free. Everything is free, but God made it. But we humans are taking money from everything. So Mahāprabhujī said beautifully in his bhajan: "Śobhāvo satsaṅgī jāne badbhāgīre janapai, śobhāvo satsaṅgī jāne badbhāgīre janapai. Jaise kīṭa braṅga saṅgok, śabda sune ik sā, Har Har śabda sune ik sā. Guñjā bīja ke bhed sevo braṅgī toho. Śobhā śat saṅgrī..." What a glory of the satsaṅg. The fortunate ones, they can go to satsaṅg. Now, you know, every one of you, you have in your city, in your village, in your country, from where you come, everywhere, hundreds of places or thousands of places, you have satsaṅgs. How many of you are going to the satsaṅg once a week? Very few. If you have an invitation for ice cream with your friend, you quit the satsaṅg and you go to the ice cream. That's it. It means, how much do you value the satsaṅg? Every sentence they said in the satsaṅg, they come ten people, five people, three people. And the rest who come to the satsaṅg, they are standing in the front room, talking and drinking tea. I am not always there, but I can tell you only about my Vienna, Austrian disciples. In the satsaṅg, sitting eight, and in the front room drinking tea, eighteen. That's it, and talking, talking, talking. During the satsaṅg, whoever is talking will become a frog. And those who just come and sleep will become a snake or a crocodile. So, always another thing, you know, the roots and divine holy seat of Yoga in Daily Life, Mahāprabhujī, is in Vienna, Austria. People are longing to come to that place once at least in life and have a darśan of that eternal divine light, but unfortunate ones are they, unlucky are they who live in Vienna. Hardly they go to pay adoration there. At least once a week they can go. It means they don't know the value, and same thing in many other cities. The Viennese are only always the victim of Swāmījī's lightning, but it is said, "Under the lamp, always dark." Under the lamp, it's always dark, and so those who live there, they think, "I was there." What a... what an ignorance. Don't know, don't know you. I know a person who's an alcoholic. He knows what alcohol is. When the time comes, in his whole body, it doesn't matter if he's ill or busy, if it's raining or snowing, he will go with the last money in his pocket to get the alcohol because he knows what it means for him. That's it. There is one bhajan. It says, "I am addicted to the opium, I am addicted to the opium of God's name." That's it. So unless you don't have that feeling, you are billions of kilometers far away from your mokṣa and spiritual development. Just once to say, "Hari Om, Swāmījī, Praṇām, Gurudev." Even he didn't look to me. You destroyed everything from this darśan, from this praṇām. Antaḥkaraṇa. Clean your antaḥkaraṇa. Mana, buddhi, chitta, ahaṃkāra. Inside is stinky. Inside is spoiled. What is inside? Mukh me Rām, bagal me churī. In the mouth, you have the name of God, and here in the armpit, you have a knife. That is... So you don't know what a satsaṅg is. You know, a real Islam Muslim, it doesn't matter how busy he or she is, five times they will make prayer with very pure thinking, with very pure things, and you can't enter without washing your hands and your feet and your mouth in the mosque. Did you ever see this, Makkah, Medina's in Makkah? When the pilgrimage is coming, millions of people all have one cloth, a white one cloth. All looks like a beautiful snow field. Islam speaks from purity, pure thinking, pure body and mind. And in Christianity too, very simple, very pure. Every religion, no matter which religion, will not say, "Think dirty and be dirty." Does it say? No? Then why? So what a shame that they don't get it. They have the opportunity to have the darśan of that divine light, that eternal light, now more than 30 years burning there, shining for us. Anyone of you who passes through Vienna must go to Śikade Vedagasa and have a darśan of this light. That's it. When the light is continued for twelve years burning there, then it gets siddhi. Your saṅkalpa will come true. But if you go really with the heart, not like, "Mahāprabhujī, this is my saṅkalpa." It's good. I will come back. Otherwise, hurry home. Bye-bye. Mahāprabhujī doesn't want any kind of bargain. No, Siddharan. Bargaining. He said, "Bye bye." It's bye. We need God, that's it. Don't put conditions on Him. Surrender pure, pure. Change your inner climate. Don't change the direction of your mālā. Someone said, "Swāmījī, here's your mālā." Many, many... People making mala half two and said, "No, okay, Swamiji, here's your mala. I go sleeping." I said, "Dobranach." That's climate change, inner climate change, towards your family, towards your partners, towards your friends, towards your children, towards your job, towards your eating, everything. What is happening within you? Do you know? In German they said, "Alles durcheinander." Everything is stirred together. Complication, din-din per complication. There is one thread that has so many knots, and through it, now it will take you many lives to open these knots. You don't know from which side you have to begin. Inner changes. Śobhāvo satsaṅgī jāne badbhāgīre janapai. The great ones who have great luck, they can get this satsaṅg. Others cannot. Dīp Nārāyaṇ Bhagavān Kī.
