Don't Give Up

The heart's true aim is God-realization.

Every heart contains God, but adoration belongs to those in whom God speaks. The body is born, yet the soul within it holds special spirituality. Practice your sādhanā and mantra without giving up. Life presents a long path with many temptations and wild waters to cross. Keep the single thought of your aim. True happiness exists only in God's presence, worth traversing fire and stones to attain. Human weakness means everyone makes mistakes; strive to correct them without guilt. Your work and actions are devotion, and life itself is worship. Mistakes are like dust brushed away upon rising. Enlightenment will one day allow you to simply dust away karma. This human life is a precious diamond not to be wasted in mere animal pursuits. The greatest tragedy is to die without self-realization. You came alone and will depart alone; all social positions and talents remain here. This life is a golden chance provided by God's mercy. Utilize your remaining time very carefully, remembering why you were born.

"In every heart, there is God. No heart is empty. But adoration to those hearts in which God speaks."

"True happiness is found only in God’s presence. For that, we may have to walk through fire, stones, and thorns."

I can feel your pure desires in your heart, your longing for spiritual realization. God will definitely fulfill this. I observe everyone’s feelings, thoughts, and paths. I pray to Mahāprabhujī to bless us with mutual understanding, so that hand in hand we may walk the path of divinity. God bless you. Many have come, especially for today or tomorrow. I thank you for coming. A birthday is every day, yet this is an occasion to express our feelings more fully. The body is born; the ātmā is unborn. Still, the body in which the ātmā resides holds a special spirituality. One Mahātma said: "Sab ghaṭ mera saiyān, koī ghaṭ khālī nae, balihārī us ghaṭ kī jahāṁ pragat bole ae." In every heart, there is God. No heart is empty. But adoration to those hearts in which God speaks. These are the spiritual saints, masters, and disciples. From being a disciple, one becomes a master. Therefore, practice your sādhanā, practice your mantra. We have a long life, a long way. Do not give up. Many young ones are here; they must cross wild waters, a wild river—it is not easy. You have a long life ahead with many temptations. Keep one thought: your aim is God-realization. God will help you. "Mela tāhe sachā sukha keval Bhagavān tumarī caraṇome." True happiness is found only in God’s presence. For that, we may have to walk through fire, stones, and thorns. Even if we must leave country and home, even if death becomes our garland, we do not give up. For that love exists only in Your presence. Many of you try very hard. We have human weaknesses; we are not perfect but strive to be. Everyone can make mistakes; everyone should try to correct them. Sometimes things happen that may not align with our spiritual principles, but do not feel yourself a sinner or guilty. Mahāprabhujī is almighty. We have a true picture of Mahāprabhujī; be sure that Śrī Devpurījī and Mahāprabhujī are with us. I tell you again—tomorrow there may be no time, and today we are late. If we are five minutes late, do not give up. Often you wonder: “Will I realize? Is this all true?” That is the human mind, the human intellect. If you did not think this, what is the intellect for? You must have inner dialogues. Yet, we will not give up. Like a honeybee always searches for the blossom, the true seeker will always search for the Gurudeva and find that nectar. Many karma yogīs did hard work here; I am aware of their devotion. It was not work; it was devotion, it was worship. Whether in the kitchen, garden, or rooms, your Karma Yoga was your worship. As it is said: “Work is worship.” "Merā jīvana terī pūjā." My life is a worship to You, Lord. Whatever you do—eating, sleeping, dressing—everything is devotion to God. Every action leads us there. We have mistakes and weaknesses, but God forgives, for these too are given by God. When you rise above, all that you think are mistakes will no longer be mistakes. They are just dust. When you sit on the earth and rise, you brush the dust from you. These little mistakes—I do not know if you call them mistakes or not. One day, with enlightenment, you will simply dust away the karma. You will say, “There was some karma, but one day…” Not yesterday, but one day. When will that day come? Only the stars know. I know, but I will not tell, for some would not trust. You have trust, yet sometimes you think trust has borders, faith has limits. On the day your trust becomes boundless, I will tell you inwardly, and you will know: “Yes, Swamijī, that is the truth.” Thank you once more. Do your sādhanā. You have done it for years; continue. Those who stop will be sorry, for sooner or later in this life you must begin again. Once you have tasted honey, you cannot be satisfied elsewhere. One who has tasted honey knows no sugar or syrup compares to that nectar. Thank you for your love, respect, devotion, care, help, and seva—what you do and what you hold in your heart for me and the Ashram. Thank you. We had a wonderful one-month program of physical training: āsanas, prāṇāyāmas, meditations, relaxations, and beautiful walks. It was beautiful to be with you. Let us keep in mind the aim of our life, why we are born. All life’s temptations will soon finish. After rain, a high wave rises in the river, but soon the water flows away and becomes slow again. Life’s nature is to be born, grow, and die. Some are at morning, some at noon, some in afternoon, and for some it is sunset—symbolic of youth, middle age, and retirement. Who knows for whom the sun is setting? Time waits for no one. Karma returns to all. Two things are certain: what we do returns to us, and time never waits. Even God, when He incarnates, is bound by time. Therefore, human life is the most precious diamond—a diamond you will not get again and again. "Khānā, pīnā, bhogānā, paśubhi paramaśujānā." Eating, drinking, enjoying, procreating—in this, animals are also expert. If humans do only this, where is the difference? This precious diamond is not to be thrown in the garbage. Realize this life is very precious. No one can help you; only you can help yourself. Those who try to help may confuse you, for they too need help. People love your work, not your money; they love your money, not your skin. Thus, we should know: what is the aim of my life? What are human qualities? We shall try to improve our human qualities and rid ourselves of animal qualities. Understanding, forgiveness—these are human qualities you possess. Awaken and utilize them. Many things happen in life, good and bad. But the greatest tragedy is to die without realizing God, without self-realization. That is the biggest tragedy. We will die physically one day, but if you keep practicing, you will not die without realization. To be born again in human life is not in your hands; nothing is. It is only chance. You cannot exchange or buy a body; there is no protection or compromise upstairs. You cannot say, “God, give me a human body and I will do this for You.” It is your deeds, your karmas, that lead you. This is very personal; it is yours, with nothing to do with anyone. Why do I tell you this? I have no expectation from you. Whether you realize God or not, it is your affair. In Germany they say, “My coffee is dead.” If you realize or not, go to heaven or hell, it is your matter. Go and enjoy, do what you want. Why am I telling you? I have no selfishness. But as a Swami, a Sādhu, and your Master, it is my prime duty to tell you. You give me nothing. If you attain self-realization, you give me nothing, and I expect nothing. Yet I feel in my heart that you should go the right way. Otherwise, it will be a pity. Social position will not help you. All degrees will stay here. All physical, mental, and intellectual talents will remain here. You came alone, and you will go alone. Where will you go afterward? Nobody knows. Therefore, it is a golden chance. God was merciful to give us human life, a beautiful body, health, good parents, and the good luck to find the spiritual path. The celebration of a birthday means to remember, to remind yourself: I know why I am born. Every year is one year less in your life. Every day is a lost day; all days are lost. It does not matter how yesterday was—you cannot go back. How many days, months, years have you lost? How much remains in your reserve tank? Utilize it very carefully. That is my suggestion and recommendation. Mahāmaṇḍaleśvar Śrī Svāmī Maheśvarānanda Gurujī.
