Be a whole complete pot

The human life is a rare chance for self-realization through yoga, which is the practical science of awakening dormant divine power within. The intellect must be educated morally and spiritually to avoid the cycle of rebirth. Material possessions are a burden; happiness comes from health and having only what is necessary. The awakening of the Kuṇḍalinī Śakti begins at the Mūlādhāra chakra, unfolding four petals: universal love, spiritual light, wisdom, and consciousness. These treasures are stolen by the six negative forces of the Svādhiṣṭhāna chakra: desire, anger, pride, greed, attachment, and ego. One must break attachment to worldly things and unite with God. The journey requires the Guru's grace. The human body is a fragile garment imbued with divine energy, meant for realizing one's true nature as God.

"As much as you have, that much burden you carry. As little you have, that much happiness you will have."

"Break your attachment to these worldly things and unite your attachment to God."

Part 1: The Path of Light and Liberation Greetings to the cosmic light, Lord of our hearts, omniscient and omnipresent. In His divine presence, dear brothers and sisters, a very good evening. God bless you. I am happy to see you all here again. It has been a long time since we last saw each other. All dear devotees of Mahāprabhujī, all spiritual seekers, those who seek the experience of yoga in daily life, who seek spirituality and self-realization, it is a rare occasion in life to be together and hear the wisdom of the great saints of India. The entire universe is endless. There are thousands of solar systems. There is space and consciousness. Between space and consciousness is that Param-Śakti, the balancing principle. The principle of balance, which harmonizes and unites. That is the divine light and divine Śakti Yoga. This endless universe contains many visible and invisible elements, all balanced and governed by one principle. That is Yoga. Out of those endless solar systems, we belong to this beautiful one. On this beautiful planet, Earth—known as a living planet—the Creator has created 8.4 million different creatures. Out of these, one is the human. Humans have, specially, an intellect which can be educated endlessly. What is special for man is that he has an intellect that can learn endlessly and rejuvenate. The human intellect needs proper education: moral and ethical education. The education from parents is very important, as is the education from our spiritual or religious teachers, social education, and finally, the education you get in schools up to the university. After all this comes the education of the Satguru Deva. This kind of education makes a man a proper human. Narasiṃha Nārāyaṇa bansaktā hai. A human can become God. Through proper education and proper spiritual practices, human life is given for realization—for self-realization. If a human misses this chance, it will be a great pity. It means you must again repeat many births and deaths in the Janam-Maraṇaka Cakra, the cycle of rebirth and death, which you have experienced thousands and millions of times. In every life, you experienced pleasure and displeasure, sorrows and happiness, pain and pleasure. Finally, the Merciful Lord was gracious enough to give us this beautiful human life. This human life has, besides the intellect, other immense talents. These talents lie dormant in the human body, connected with the astral body, causal body, and mental body. They can be awakened, and through this awakening, you can achieve Self-Realization. Yoga is the science of body, mind, consciousness, and soul. It is not a theory or a dogma, but a reality; it is the practical way. Tons of theory are nothing compared to a gram of practice. Theories can only inspire you. Do not depend on theories. If you are stuck on the intellectual path, then you are lost. What a pity. Therefore, a gram of practice will be counted. Every step, every thought, every movement, and every breath will be counted. It depends on you how you lead your life, how you understand it. Therefore, do not waste time only on materialistic things. The material world is necessary, but it is not everything. It is only for our use, to support your physical life. As much as you have, that much burden you carry. As little you have, that much happiness you will have. Holy Gurujī, our beloved Guru Dev Jñāneśvarī Swāmī Mādhvānandajī, used to say: enter the kingdom of God through the gate of sacrifice. If you want to enter into cosmic consciousness, there is only one door, and that door is sacrifice, renunciation. Recently, someone moved from one apartment to another. That person realized how many things they had collected. It took three trucks to move. All the things were lying in front of the new apartment, and both husband and wife stood there exhausted. They asked themselves, "Do we need all this?" He said no, and she said no. What did they do? They stopped unloading the truck and asked the driver to load everything back and give it to a humanitarian organization. They were so happy to have only a bed to sleep on, a few mattresses for guests, cooking pots, and a few plates and spoons. They had enough space in the flat. Finally, they were happy and did not even need to install an alarm system. So, the human has become a slave of their property. As much as you have, that much is a burden. Give, give, give. As much as you will give, God will give you double. Therefore, in Rāja Yoga, in the principles of Yama and Niyama, it is said: do not collect. No saṅgra, no collection. The same is said afterward in the New Testament: why do you carry so many things? God will give you everything you need, when you need it. God who gave the pig will give the food. O man, trust in God. Whenever I go to India, and many people from these countries travel with me, what one person needs fills two taxis: one for the person and one and a half for the luggage. When I look in their room, they have hardly a sleeping place on the bed; otherwise, on the bed, under the bed, in the middle of the room, there is only luggage. They have some karmas from the past to carry with them, like this. Therefore, happy are they who have just a little handbag. In every situation, you are happy. God will give you everything. If one day you don’t have something, don’t worry. But people carry unbelievable things. Therefore, Mahatma Gandhi said, "Renounce and enjoy." Do you want to enjoy your life? Then there are two things. First, become healthy. In Āyurveda, the first principle is this: Pāla Sukh Nirogī Kāyā—the first happiness is a healthy body. Who is healthy is the happiest person in the world. Who is not healthy is, unfortunately, not that happy. A healthy person can eat whenever and however much he or she likes—sugar, salt, no restrictions. Thanks to God that you are healthy. Therefore, in the Upaniṣads it is said: Sarve Sam Svastir Bhavantu—everywhere there should be health. First wealth is good health. So, a healthy person is the happiest person in the world. How many of you here are healthy? We can congratulate you. And how many are not healthy? Therefore, you are here. Through practicing yoga in daily life, one becomes healthy. Only if you will practice. The second way to be the happiest person is to have little—only the necessary things. Someone has fifty clothes at home. You do not wear fifty clothes in one day. So have two or three, that’s all. Give the other forty-seven for humanitarian purposes. You have so many pairs of shoes. Have only one, that’s all. Maximum two: one for summer and one for winter. Give the rest away. Likewise, check in your house if you are utilizing things; if not, give them. For our existence, we do not need too many things. I was in America once, and all the yoga people made what is called a yard sale, a flea market. They brought things they didn’t need into one garden and sold them. With the money, they bought a very nice carpet for their yoga room and installed heating. How happy they were. Likewise, you can support your yoga centers, or something you need, or some NGOs. Anywhere, help is help. If you give clothes to someone, they will use them. It is alright. Either your body is wearing this coat, or somebody else is wearing it. Renounce, renounce. Therefore, humans should not become slaves of material things. It is said that a human should realize four things: Dharma, Artha, Kāma, and Mokṣa. Dharma means the principles of human life. The Dharma of the human is to be kind, helpful, a protector—protecting the environment, all creatures, society, and Dharma itself. Artha means money. Of course, we are civilized beings, and we do not know when a guest may come. We should be able to give them bread and butter and blankets to sleep. Therefore, we should have something. It is not that you should just sleep under a bridge on the sand—though when it is very hot, sleeping under a bridge is very nice. Many rich people sleep under bridges in summer because it is cool. So, those who sleep under a bridge does not mean they are poor. Richness and poorness are in the mind. The last two world wars damaged the human psyche and made the human mind very poor, always wanting to collect and collect. But we live now in different times, and we pray to God that we will not experience such wars. Therefore, help. That is the first step for a yogī to proceed towards spiritual development. We have been talking about chakras, that Divine Śakti which is within us and outside of us. The Creator who created 8.4 million different creatures made the human with immense dormant powers. It is like a generator that is switched off. If you start the generator, it will produce energy. Similarly, within the human body there are many generators. If all were switched on, there would be no more suffering, and you would be enlightened without delay. But unfortunately, some cables of the generator do not function. For that, we have the signs of the Kuṇḍalinī. Kuṇḍalinī is the divine Śakti. The awakening of the Kuṇḍalinī begins from the Mūlādhāra. Its four petals have symbolic meaning. Each unfoldment of a Mūlādhāra petal brings a beautiful message and opens hidden treasures. The first treasure opened is called love, universal love. Love is God, and God is love. Through that love, this whole world exists. The ocean, the mountains, vegetation, humans, other creatures—all are connected and united through that love. That is called Ānanda. And that Ānanda is Paramānanda. At present, you are in Ānanda. And when this Śakti reaches the Sahasrāra Cakra, you will be in Paramānanda. Either you sing, or I will. Otherwise, you will not experience what I do. So you are in Ānanda, and suddenly you will become in Paramānanda. Paramānanda means divine bliss. And this Ānanda is the pleasure of being here in this world. So the first opening of the petal brings love. Love unites, and hate divides. Complexes, jealousy, and doubt divide. Those who have jealousy, hate, complexes, and doubts are very poor persons. I am very sorry for such a person. Even God cannot help you. Do not damage yourself in this way. At least you should love yourself. Being jealous, greedy, or angry at someone has no meaning. Let’s say you can be as jealous or as angry with me as you want. It will not help you, but it will harm you. Therefore, I always say this is the biggest obstacle, a destructive power within humans: Āsurī Śakti and Devī Śakti. Āsurī Śakti is the negative energy, and Devī Śakti is the divine energy. Therefore, do not harm; otherwise, your meditation has no meaning. When the second petal opens, it brings light—the universal light, the ultimate truth. Without that light, we are all blind. But that light is not like material light; it is a spiritual light you cannot compare. It is the light which the Master transfers to you. But you have not yet opened your eyes to see that light. When God Kṛṣṇa appeared to the great Mīrā, her husband said, "But I do not see Kṛṣṇa." She said, "Of course you cannot see Him, because you do not have those eyes to see Him." Similarly, you received that light at the time of your mantra initiation. As soon as I touched your head, the light entered you, but you are still not opening your eyes. It is that guiding light which will lead you to the Cosmic Self. Few have realized, and few are still in doubt. And doubt is lemon in the milk—it spoils your spiritual development. Light, Prakāś. Therefore, Holy Gurujī said in one bhajan: "Prakāśa Pūñja Amṛta Ke Sāgara, Śrīdīpa Harī Mahādhānī Hai." Prakāśa Pūñja is immense light, the source of the light, Amṛta Ke Sāgara—He is the ocean of the nectar that is love and light. Śrīdīpa Harī Mahādhānī—He, Mahāprabhujī, is the giver. He, the Gurudeva, can give us realization. As long as the disciple is not ready, enlightenment will not take place. Every master is searching for a good pot in which he or she can pour that nectar. Every pot has a hole at the bottom. Upar se bhare, niche se jhare, Guru Mahārājū kya kare? From above, the master is pouring in; from below, everything is flowing out. What should the master do? Part 2: The Awakening of the Chakras and the Human Treasure Therefore, it is said: patra, śupatra. Śupatra means the good, clean pot. Paramahaṁsa Rāmakṛṣṇa, the great saint, touched the heads of millions of people, but they did not get that kind of realization. Yet when he touched the head of Swami Vivekananda, Vivekananda immediately went into samādhi. It is nice to read the books, and everyone would like to be like that. Then they say, "I am searching for the Master, Paramahaṁsa Rāmakṛṣṇa." You have already met Him, but you are not a Vivekānanda. That is it. Therefore, Śupatra—the Master would like to give to you. Even if you serve the Master, even if you stayed many years with the Master, you are not that pot. The Master was very unhappy about that. The Master is sorry for that, though you could have served him for years and years. But you were like an iron spoon in the pudding. You could not taste that divine nectar. What a pity! Time is gone. Now is gone. Therefore, do not lose this human life. So, the awakening of love and light—what a beautiful combination. When love and light are awakened, then the third petal awakens, and that third petal is wisdom, knowledge. Yes, now I know who I am, what I do need, what is Satya and Asatya. What a beautiful combination. They are jewels, beautiful jewels. The treasure of the jewels is awakened, opened. Satya, the truth, the wisdom—that wisdom is known as Ātmā Jñāna. It leads you to Ātmā Jñāna, Self-realization. And when knowledge is awakened—the love, the light, Svetlost i Znanje—then the fourth petal finally awakens. It means the awakening of consciousness. That consciousness means the space. Now, that Divine Śakti begins to proceed towards Śiva. Śiva is consciousness, and the Kuṇḍalinī is the power, the Śakti—not as male and female. Do not understand it this way. Always you go to the lower thinking. There is no attribute of male and female. It is the power, the energy. And that is what the awakening of the kuṇḍalinī means—not as something, a turbulence in the body. That is a mental, psychic disorder, a nerve disorder. One who is awakened, the kuṇḍalinī, is the liberated one, the wise one, the peaceful one. Love, light, wisdom, and what? Nonsense? Not nonsense—conscience. That is it. Yes, as soon as this tendency is opened, then the Āsurī Śakti is awake. They say, "Oh, where is he going? Let him or her hunt." Then there are six other energies in our next milestone, which you call the Svādhiṣṭhāna Chakra. There is a hidden, somewhere, these powers. Come the sexual desires. Here humans become blind; humans behave like animals. All creatures are slaves to these desires. It is natural. It is a tendency in the body, but you should know your limitations. Do not suffer. Do not do stupid things. Understand. Calm Dev, that is called Calm Dev. Dev means God. God is of the passion. You cannot defeat Him. If you could defeat Him, you would immediately be the King of Heaven. What would you do then, if you are the King of Heaven? We shall be the king of the universe. That is it. Once Holī Gurujī went to meet the President of India. Holī Gurujī was welcomed and was sitting in a waiting room. The secretary of the president telephoned into that room where Gurujī was and asked Gurujī, "What is your designation?" Gurujī said, "King of the entire universe." "Thank you, sir." Telephone down. That is it. When any disturbance comes between, immediately the second petal opens: Krodha, anger, the devil Krodha. There are two kinds of devils: one devil which drinks the blood of others only, and the second devil is krodha, anger, which drinks the blood of oneself and others. Through anger, when you defeat someone cruelly, where the cruelty is, and you win that, then mada, pride, comes. Pride takes your eyes of wisdom away. It puts a thick curtain on the light which is awakened in Mūlādhāra. And when you win, and your pride comes up, then greed comes out. "Yes, I want more. Is there anyone who wants to fight with me? I am the stronger one." Greedy, greedy, greedy. I want to have more. I am a winner. This kind of greed is another devil in the human. And when you win something, then attachment attacks you, moha. Pobjedite, onda vas zapadne vezanost, moha. All creatures are suffering because of moha. Sva śiva bichā pate zbog mohe. Attachment. Where there is love, there is freedom. And where there is attachment, there is suffering. Where there is attachment, there is jealousy, hate, and complexes. Therefore, practice detachment. There was one yogī, and he always gave one lecture. His whole lecture was just a few seconds, that is all, and that was two sentences only: "Todo, Jodo," finished. "Break and unite." Break your attachment to these worldly things and unite your attachment to God. Direct your channel of love to Him. Todo-jodo, finished. If you understand, do it. If you do not understand, suffer it. So attachment, moha, and then comes ahaṃkāra, ego. Then the ego is very much up, very, very much, and ego is the distraction of everything. And these are the six petals of the Svādhiṣṭhāna Cakra: Kāma, Krodha, Mada, Lobha, Moha, and Ahaṃkāra. So, whatever you win or you gain from the Mūlādhāra Cakra, everything is stolen by these six thieves. Therefore, you can only win them, you can defeat them only if you use your common sense, that education which you got from wise persons. Think over what is the use of your life. Definitely, we have attachment, a natural attachment—an attachment between mother and child, husband and wife. If this attachment is not there, then the relationship will be suffering. If the mother does not have attachment and love for the child, the child will suffer. If a husband or wife does not have attachment, their married life will suffer. So there are natural things which you should cultivate, but sometimes there are unnatural things happening, and that is too much. After coming above these chakras, which we spoke about already last time, finally you awake in the Maṇipūra Chakra. How beautiful. Wonderful. Maṇipūra Chakra. It is a chakra full of love, light, awakening, fire, suffering, everything. How beautiful that you suffer in the fire. We will come after that. But where there is Guru Kṛpā, you are safe. No one can come to the final destination without Guru Kṛpā. Those who think we do not need a Guru—now, their spiritual development is going down. Without a Guru, there is no way. That is why yoga is called a living path, this tradition of the master and disciple, the spiritual traditions, the spiritual lineage. And you know that our spiritual lineage is very great. We are very rich; we are not lost children. Our grand masters are rich enough. We can eat for many, many generations, meaning we have their wisdoms. Therefore, before coming to the Maṇipūra Chakra, what you are saying... When the jīva, this individual consciousness, which is involved in the soul—the soul is not the ātmā; the soul is not the Self. The soul is the layers of our qualities, which are created through karma. Kvaliteta Koje Stvara Karma. Like an onion, the layers of the onion, one after the other layer. Kao da skidamo slojeve luka, jedan po jedan. But within that is the Ātmā. So now, the individual consciousness, after long fighting, after long trying sādhanās, and through the Guru Kṛpā and through the practicing of that particular mantra, the spirit consciousness is rising up. A very difficult chakra, the very difficult border has been crossed now. And you enter into the Maṇipūra Chakra. The name itself is beautiful. Mani means the jewel, and Chakra is the center. The center of the jewels. And that is why it is said, "Mani Padme Hum." Mani is the jewel, Padam is the lotus feet of the Master, and Hum means "bow down." I bow down to the lotus feet of the Master, and his feet are the jewels. Each nail is a jewel. The ten nails of the ten toes are the ten jewels. And these jewels have their own meaning. The richness of the yogīs is there. You have to dive to get those pearls. Maṇipūra Chakra is a very significant chakra. You know that our manifestation of our physical body began with the Maṇipūra Chakra, our connection to the mother’s body. Our relationship with the mother’s body was through the Maṇipūra Chakra, the navel. The navel has a great meaning. The first day when we entered into the mother’s body, that was our real birthday. That was the real birthday. And it depends on your destiny, how it was, how your psyche begins to develop from that second, what were the circumstances: beautiful, full of fear, pain, pleasure. How was the atmosphere? Good smelling, or stinky? What was the atmosphere? What was it? What was the condition, the psychic and physical condition, of the mother? And what was the psychic and physical condition of the father? How has the father prepared himself to get you, and how has the mother been preparing to get you, to receive you? How long did they make spiritual sādhanā? How long did they pray? How pure was the nourishment they took? Or were they completely drunken, quarreling, abusive? What was the situation? My dear, all this has influence on your psyche, and all this affects the Maṇipūra Chakra. Anything happens in your life, suddenly you feel in the stomach on the Maṇipūra Cakra, and from here either heat is spreading through the body or shivering cold. The fear awakes from the Maṇipūra Cakra and reflects on the heart, the Anāhata. Therefore, what is hidden in your psyche? What were the star’s constellations? Which day and month was it? Everything is according to the constellations. This light came from the universe, perceived by mother, and that was you. It is not that you are some ordinary human being. There is no ordinary. Every creature is special, not only humans, but every creature. But, my dear, destiny, the prārabdha. Everyone has their destiny. And we are fluttering on the waves of destiny. This destiny is a boat which is on the beach and near the rock. And with every wave getting crashed on the rock. This boat is fluttering here and there. It is a swing on the waves, so the swing off through the destiny. After a long journey in this space, finally you got a human body. How beautiful, beautiful. I think we do not understand still that we have a human body. I think that we still do not understand that we really have a human body. If you become Nārāyaṇa, from human you will become God. Realize this. Therefore, a great saint, Kabīr Dās Jī Mahārāj, said, "Listen to bhajana. Chadariyā. Poslushite bhajana." What a wonderful bhajan, written by the great saint Kabīrdās. Chādara yā jīni re, jīni kī rāma nāma rasa bhīni. Chādara yā jīni re jīni. Chādara means this shawl, and this shawl means this physical body. Rām Nām Rasubhinī. It is sucked into the juice of God’s name. In each and every atom, there is the name of God in the human body. Anāhadnāda sound: "Soham, Soham, Soham." Every atom of the human is filled with the immense energy of God. That is this body, but this is a very fragile shawl. To break this glass does not take a long time. Chasha Slomila, ne treba puno vremena, seconds. Similarly, to destroy this human life does not take a long time, seconds. One accident and Hari Om. You know who is your greatest friend and the greatest servant? It is your heart. Other organs of the body may rest for a while, but it does not rest, and when it will rest, there will be permanent rest. So this is very frazzling. Vrlo Kṛhko Aṣṭakamal Kā Cārakā Banāyā, wah! Wonderful! This is a Kuṇḍalinī subject. Aṣṭakamal, eight lotus. Make the eight lotus as the spinning wheel. Aṣṭakamala kā cārakā banāyā pāñca tattvakī punī, and cotton, the cotton of the five elements: ether, air, water, fire, and earth. These are the five elements from which this material body is made. These five elements are the matter that makes up the human body. Naudas Masa Bhunanko Laga, nine to ten months took time to make this all. Murkh Meli Kini Chadariya, but the foolish one made dirty this all. Gaya uspiyo zaprljati ovej shalu. Chadar od sankamat ki jo. When you have covered your soul with this body, Kad idamput zaprljaš svoj shalu, do not be ashamed. Sometimes people think, "Why did God give me this life?" Nemoj se sramiti. Ponekad ljudi kažu, pa zašto mi je Bog dao taj život? I am alone. Ja sam sam. I am lonely. Ja sam usamljen. No one loves me. Nikome ne voli. Everybody hates me. No one likes me. What am I doing here? Why did not God make me a bird so I could fly? I wanted to be a deer in the forest. I want to be a butterfly, to go to every flower, to take nectar and fly away. You did not understand what God has given you. God has given you only for two days. One day was yesterday, and the second is today. Tomorrow, you do not know. Who has seen tomorrow? No one has seen tomorrow. Chadarodh Saṅkamat Kijo Dodin Tumko Dini Murak bedu na jāne, din din meli kini chadriyam. But an ignorant one, a foolish one, did not understand the secret of this body. Did not understand what is in his body, he did not understand. What is in his body? He did not understand. What is in his body? He did not understand. What is in his body? He did not understand. What is in his body? He did not understand. What is in his body? He did not understand. What is in his body? He did not understand. Understand what is in his body. He did not understand what is in his body. He did not understand what is in his body.... He did not. Understand what is in his body. He did not understand what is in his body. He did not understand what is in his body.... He did not understand. Not only dirty but stinky, what you eat, what you put in this body, because you do not understand what this body means and what is hidden in this body. That is very important. Then, when this shawl was finished, it was brought to the fabric to color it, to the color man, and he colored it in such a color, "lalū lal kardīnī," he made red of the red; there cannot be more red than that. That red is Śakti. So that person who is coloring your soul is your Gurudeva, and he will color your body. He will color your consciousness; that color, you will never go off. He is giving the example of a great saint, Dhruva, a very young, small child. He made tapasyā, and he won the place on the star, what you call the North Star. We call it Dhruva, and every star is called Dhruva. All the stars are moving, but that one is not. That is Dhruva’s place. Achan, everlasting, and that Gurudev will make you. Prahārada, you know the story about Prahārada. Śukadeva Muni, a very great wise saint. And Surdas, a great devotee of Lord Kṛṣṇa, he was blind by birth, but he was a great devotee. When he was singing a song to Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa appeared to him in every form in which he was singing. And Kabīr Dās Jī said, he took also the shawl over him, and he gave it back to God as clean as he got it. That is the master’s work. What about you? How many spots do you have? Check that. Check that. I have a technique for how to clean them. It is not so easy to remove, but we have to put them in boiling water, you know, and beat them on a rock. They will come out. Prepare yourself.
