Guru Agya

The essence of all mantra is the Guru's word. Cosmic sound energy exists as positive and negative forces within all things. Your behavior is determined by which energy you cultivate. Intellect clouded by negative qualities makes one act like an asura, mistaking harm for good, as with intoxication. Alcohol is a destructive force that ruins lives. Healthy fruits become negative when manipulated; similarly, divine human energy becomes distorted by negative lifestyle and consumption. To be free, we must purify the three gunas. Repeating mantra purifies energy and frees one from the three sufferings. The root of all mantra is Guruvakya—the Master's instruction. Obeying the Guru's word is the supreme mantra. All holy scriptures are Guru Vakya, offering the same instructions. Yet, people often hide negativity behind a smile. Therefore, attend satsang and serve the Guru. A moment of service to the Guru surpasses years serving God. Liberation is rooted solely in the Guru's grace, which requires your inner being to be clear, not duplicitous. Do not share personal sorrows with untrustworthy people. Follow the scriptural signs as you would a highway; this is your mantra for a safe journey. When afraid or unsure, pray. The soul is immortal; only the body dies. Surrender your mind during meditation to the Guru. Utilize time without fear, for what will happen will happen.

"Through repeating your mantra, especially this mantra, 'Om Prabhudip Niranjan Sabaduka Banjan,' you become free from the three tapas."

"Therefore, the final teaching is: 'mantra mūlaṁ guruvākyaṁ.' The essence of all mantras is the words of your master."

Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇa Bhagavānakī, Devīśvara Mahādevakī, Mādhav Kṛṣṇa Bhagavānakī, Sanātana Dharmakī. We shall continue with the mantra. Nastavichemo mantrī. Mantrak temayat fojtatjuk. We spoke yesterday about sound and communication, about how to direct cosmic energy in a particular direction so that what you wish comes true. This cosmic sound is in each and every atom on this planet, as well as in other planets and in this space. This sound, this energy, is created as positive and negative—Āsurī Śakti and Devī Śakti. Āsurī Śakti means negative forces. Asuras, Rākṣasas, these are all negative forces. How the energy in your body is developing determines how you behave. Holy Gurujī told me one story. Once, we were walking along the Sabramatī River in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, where Gurujī had an āśram. Gurujī said that once he saw a man sitting on the bank of the river who was completely drunk. He was eating cow dung, and he called to Gurujī. He said, "Mātmājī, come eat with me the most delicious cake." Gurujī said to him, "It’s cow dung, it’s not a cake." The drunken man insisted, "No, no, it’s the most delicious cake." So Gurujī said, "Then enjoy yourself." The man, being so drunk, ate some cow dung and then fell asleep. After a few hours, the effect of the alcohol diminished. The man realized, "Oh God, what have I done? These stupid things. I was eating the cow dung." So you see, the quality can change everything. Your intellect becomes clouded, and you act according to those qualities, thinking that is the best. So through the qualities, one is an asura or a demon; through the qualities, one is a thief or a criminal; and through the qualities, one is a good person or a holy person. Constantly, there is a fight between devī śakti and āsurī śakti within us and outside of us. When the āsurī śakti attacks a person or animal, then that being becomes very dangerous. You may experience, or you know, sometimes there are people who are drunk and then begin to throw everything around in the flat and kick glass with their fist, acting really like Asuras. The most dangerous drug is alcohol. If you could count how many accidents happen in the world because of alcohol, how many people are killed, how many families are broken, how many children are left without parents, how many partners are unhappy because of alcohol... If you want peace, harmony, and happiness in human society, then stop the alcohol. To get rid of alcohol habits is as difficult as getting rid of some other drugs. But alcohol is a big source of money, and that’s why people don’t want to stop. In reality, the grape is the most beautiful, healthiest, and good fruit. Plums, apples, all fruits are very healthy and very good. But when the juice of these fruits is manipulated, then an āsurī śakti develops inside. Similarly, humans have a divine energy, a divine śakti within them, but due to the manipulation of negative society, a negative way of life, negative thinking, and consuming such food which has āsurī śaktis inside, they also develop their habits and energies. Then their way of thinking and acting is according to that energy. By the way, there are also personal differences among individuals. A human being has many good qualities, but if one leads an unhealthy lifestyle and consumes foods and drinks that cause distortion, aligning with the asurī śakti, then we need to change our lifestyle and our way of living. If we attune to the asurī śakti, we must transform it. To free ourselves from the bondage of asurī śakti, we must change our way of thinking and our lifestyle. And we must purify the three guṇas: sattva, rajas, and tamas. As the Āsurī Śakti develops, we suffer from three tapas, the three kinds of suffering. Ādi Devikī Ādi Ātmik Sūtrī Tapā Gurujī said in one of the beautiful bhajans: "Ranjana Sabha Dukkha Bhanjan Prabhudipaniran Janasabha Dukkha Isi Mantrase Khoemana Manjana Isi Mantra Sridipaniran Janasabha Dukkha Bhanjan Prabhudipaniran." So through repeating your mantra, especially this mantra, "Om Prabhudip Niranjan Sabaduka Banjan," you become free from the three tapas: Ādhibhautika, Ādhidaivika, and Ādhyātmika. As much as we repeat our mantra, energy is purifying; energy is filtered. It is that resonance which has a positive vibration, and the positive vibration then develops the positive energy and purifies the negative energy. There are many different kinds of mantras: Gāyatrī Mantra, Mahāmṛtyuñjaya Mantra, and many, many others. So finally, one may ask Lord Śiva, "What is the best mantra? Which is the best mantra that helps a disciple develop spirituality quickly and ensures the disciple will realize mokṣa, samādhi, or self-realization in this life?" The answer is: "Mantra Mūlaṁ Guruvākyam, O Pārvatī." The essence, the root, or the basis of all mantra is Guruvākya. "Uparvati Mantra Moolam Guruvakyaan Vajish." The essence of all mantra is the Guru's word. Saba Guruvakya means the words of the Master. If your Master tells you, "Don’t do this," then for you it is like a mantra. If your Master tells you to do this, then do it. This is for you like a mantra. Guru Ājñā, the instruction of the master. Guru Āgyā—obey, obey, obey the words of the Master. If your Gurudev tells you, "Don’t go with this person, don’t talk to this person," then you should not do it. But what do you do? When I tell you something, you just go and telephone and tell Swāmījī all this and that. I don’t understand why. But we do what we want. You do as you like. It’s your life. All your telephone calls, all your SMS, and all your emails, I can tell you, are received by my computer, but I will never tell you. I am only sorry for your development and for you. Guru Vakya means the words of all holy saints. The holy saints, it doesn’t matter from which country they come or which religion. All the holy scriptures are Guru Vākya. And every holy scripture has the same instructions. But also, in every holy scripture, there has always been someone who was chatting, or what you call backbiting. We call in India, "Mukh me Rām, bagal me surī." On the face is the name of God or a smile, but in your armpit, you have a knife hidden. The Śakunī in the Mahābhārata and Mantra in the Rāmāyaṇa—it was not only one mantra, but in this Kali Yuga there are many, many mantras. There are many destructive mantras in this Kali Yuga, not just one. It was not only she. The mantra was a destructive power in the group or the family of the God Rāma. And the end of the mantra was very, very terrible, causing great suffering. And also the Śakunī. Therefore, the holy scriptures tell you to go to satsaṅg. Lucky are they who can come to satsaṅg, who can travel hundreds of kilometers to come. You saw this Holi, Gurujī’s last Guru Pūrṇimā Satsaṅg. There is a very great saint, Śukadeva Muni. He was five years old, but very divine and great. He knew all the Śāstras. If one speaks very nicely, giving a lecture, one will say, "Oh, he must be an incarnation of Śukadeva Muni." Śukadeva Muni said: A few seconds of Seva to Gurudev is more than 16 years of Seva to God. "Hari Seva Sola Baras, Guru Seva Palachar Tobi ni barabari ved kino vichar"—that you will see in Gurujī’s satsaṅg. Therefore, lastly, it is said: "Mokṣa mūlaṁ Guru Kṛpā." Mokṣa will only be when the Guru’s grace is there. And kṛpā will not come merely from your smiling, and it will not come merely from Gurujī’s smile. You see, the runway must be clear; then you can take off. So your inner vṛttis should be clear. Otherwise, if on the face is a smile and in the armpit a knife, it doesn’t function. There was one lady who used to be an advisor for many people. But in reality, she was destructive. She used to phone all my yoga students. She would say, "Yes, I am for you like your mother. I saw that today you were a little bit unhappy. What happened? You know, our Swamījī is very nice; he is very divine and so on. But I can’t understand why you are unhappy. I have a deep relation to Swamiji. I understand Swamiji, and he speaks in me. Tell me something. I promise you, I will tell nobody. I will not even tell Swāmījī. Now, come, my child. Tell me, the heavy stone that you have on the heart, just empty it, throw it away. Come. Trust me, I am your mother, and I will never tell anybody. Only maybe God will hear what we are talking, that’s all." So she used to fawn for about half an hour, one hour, with the persons. Then she would put off the telephone and immediately dial the number to someone, or to me. Imagine, this crazy person telephoned me, my god. One hour I had to talk, and what, what he or she told me—stupid things. There are not only one stupid; there are many stupids. There is a joke. On the highway, on the freeway, one man was driving in the wrong direction. The radio was announcing, "Be careful, there is one crazy man driving in the wrong direction." And that crazy man who was driving the wrong direction said to his wife, "Stupid. The radio said one man, but there are so many driving the wrong direction." So don’t think that what you are talking, the person will not tell further. People promise you, "I will not tell, I have not spoken." When these people speak, they immediately tell me or tell someone. Therefore, in the golden preaching, Līlā Amṛt, Mahāprabhujī is saying: Don’t tell your sorrows or your personal things unless you know the person. And to know that person means you can understand what that person is thinking and how a person is acting and will act in the future after some years. Otherwise, you will be sorry. And therefore, Guru Seva and Guru Kṛpā are not so easy. Lucky are they who understand and who can do it. So, the final teaching is: "mantra mūlaṁ guruvākyaṁ." The essence of all mantras is the words of your master. On the highway, the highway is one way. Someone has put a sign that it is a highway. And the other side is written "wrong way, don’t enter." This kind of sign has been put there after long thinking and research work. This instruction for us is Guru Vākya. If you follow the signs, you will safely arrive. If you do not follow them, you may cause an accident or lose your life. Therefore, follow the śāstras; that is for us like a mantra. And when we follow that, our positive energy increases, our life is prolonged, and many difficulties can be avoided. And if we don’t know, then we shall pray and repeat a mantra. If we don’t know something, then we repeat a mantra. "Jab jab man ghabraye, tum prathnā karo. Jab raha nazar na aaye, tum prathnā karo." Whenever you feel scared, fear from death or anything, then you should pray. When you don’t find a way out of your troubles, then you should pray. This morning, there was a question on my table from a person who said, "I’m very scared of death." Then, prayer. You will overcome the fear. Who will die? The body will die. You will not die. You will be in the astral world. Will you say, "I died"? Then, who is in the astral world? I was born again. So, what do you mean that you were born again? You died? "Amṛtātmāhe Maraṇṣilkāya..." Ātmā is immortal, and mortal is the body. "Yehi jñāna Arjuna ko Hari ne sunāyā." This knowledge was also preached to Arjuna by Lord Krishna. In the Līlā Amṛt, there is a very beautiful story written. Someone came to Mahāprabhujī and said, "I do so many mantras every day, I meditate, I listen to holy songs, bhajans, I read holy books, I do so many pūjās, prayers, but still my mind is restless." Mahāprabhujī said, "Well, tomorrow when you meditate, give the key of your mind to me. Say before your meditation, 'Mahāprabhujī, I give to you my senses, my words, my mind, and everything.' And you will see how it will function." The next day, the man came to Mahāprabhujī and said, "Mahāprabhujī, I had never had such a nice meditation. Today, I realized and understood what Chittavṛtti Nirodha means." Therefore, these were the last words of Gurujī in this world: "Gurujī uttarshu savai yezak hoi take vilagon." Who realizes his Guru, he or she becomes a Guru. But, how to recognize a true Guru? I, as a guru, say: "So ne može postati šećer, a šećer ne može postati so." Salt cannot become sugar, and sugar cannot become salt. Therefore, don’t be scared about anything. What will happen, will happen, even if you are scared. There is one nice story about Mahātma Gāndhījī. Gandhījī went by train to Eastern India. The train was going up a mountain. Gandhijī always had with him a person who was writing everything that Gandhijī was dictating, or Gandhijī also himself used to write. What happened was that two wagons from the locomotive, from the freight wagons, separated. Half of the train is going forward, and half of the wagons are going back because it was on a downward slope from the mountain. Gandhijī said to his secretary, "OK, take the book, and we shall write something." The secretary said, "But you know, Gandhijī, we are going to die. We don’t know what will happen." Gandhijī said that we will see after. "Why should we lose the time? We should write. Utilize the time now. So what will happen, will happen. If we are sitting and holding the train and say, 'Oh, we will die, we will die,' that is a loss of time." Unnecessarily, you are suffering. You are suffering ahead already. Therefore, Gurujī said: "Teri Satguru Rāke Laj, Cintā Mat Karna."
