Destiny and mystery of a human

A spiritual discourse on the depth of yoga, prāṇa, and holistic living.

"Yoga is not something you just do for three months. It is lifelong, and even after life."

"Prāṇa, there is no translation. Some call it breath. Some call it energy. Some call it vitality. Some call it life force, but still, it is not that."

The speaker guides the audience through the expansive journey of yoga, from initial physical practice to understanding prāṇa (life force). He explains how yoga purifies the body's energy systems, discusses the importance of sāttvic food and natural materials for sustaining prāṇa, and warns against attachments like greed through a parable about the Midas touch. The session includes practical guidance on Brahmari Prāṇāyāma for relaxation and concludes with a guided sensory visualization to experience the prāṇa in fresh fruit.

When we begin to practice yoga, we often come to it because someone told us about it or we read something. Curiosity is sparked, perhaps by seeing some postures. We hear it is good for concentration and health, and so we come to practice. Then we discover there is more and more—it is endless. You might think it is one course for three months, and Hari Om. But it is endless. Yes, yoga is not something you just do for three months. It is lifelong, and even after life. It is very precise. The yoga techniques are designed with great attention. Concentration means analyzing every movement of the body. And when we analyze the body, we analyze our memory, our consciousness, our intellect, the subconscious, unconscious, conscious, and what is going on in the body. Then, different principles need different treatment. So, yoga is a completeness. The body and the functions in the body are also complete. It is like building a house: you design everything, then you finish everything—plumbing, electricity, canalization, many things—and then you say, "Now it’s finished." You can live in it, or you can rent it. Similarly, when this body is complete and all functions are perfect, then God says, "Now you go into the world." But we might say, "God, I cannot walk still. I cannot speak. I don’t know anybody. Where will I go? Must I go out?" And God says, "Yes, you go. I will take care of you." And you are born. You open your eyes. Oh God, you begin to cry. "Where am I again?" But everybody receives you with happiness and takes care of you. That is the care of God. So God has designed everything perfectly and put it into function. Everything is functioning perfectly. Only what man designs does not always function. Therefore, the yoga exercises are designed according to the manifestation of the human body, of human beings. What is very unique in this is that though humans are more developed, they are again united with nature. So you are with nature like all others, like trees. They are changing every season. Your body is also changing. Nothing is different. Everything is unique in nature. So, if we would like to take something out of this life, if we want something from this life—something to understand about the universal mystery, destiny, and the mystery of the human—then we have to go beyond our present memory and consciousness, with the help of our inner functions and energies. First, let us consider movements and exercises. It is not only that they keep your body healthy, but they activate all energy centers in the body: every gland, nervous system, circulation, muscle, and digestion. Then comes the breath. The mystery of the breath is very, very deep. This body God made is self-sustainable. Everything is managing itself. Only one thing that God gave us, and we are depending on from outside, is eat and drink. And why did God give us hunger and thirst? It has a very clear answer. This was a question of the creation. Breath began when we were born, and it will end when we will die, lie, or leave this body. Between every inhale and exhale, it is just like waves on the water. Imagine the ocean. You are standing on the beach. Every wave comes and goes. The ocean is also breathing. The sound of the ocean: every wave is coming and going, no? Expanding, contracting. Now, our body is not only taking oxygen in and out. There is something more than this. You see, there is one lamp burning, and this flame will be burning as long as there is some oil inside. Someone must give the oil in. So in our heart is called Jīvan Jyoti, the flame of life. And this flame is having its nourishment coming from the Cosmic Mother. So with inhalation and exhalation, we are connected with the Cosmic Mother, the energy that comes and goes. We are constantly connected with Her, that Mother who takes care of us. When we were in our mother’s womb, she took care of us. Now we are outside of our physical mother’s womb, and now we are in the cosmic womb. So the cosmic womb is from the cosmic mother, and she takes care of us. We breathe in and out. With this breath, the breath that we inhale and exhale is also called the prāṇa. And prāṇa, there is no translation. Some call it breath. Some call it energy. Some call it vitality. Some call it life force, but still, it is not that. A bhakta says, a devotee says to God, "Lord, You are the basis of my prāṇa. My prāṇa depends on You. Lord, You are the source of my prāṇa." So, the prāṇa comes from God. And in the Sanskrit language, every entity we call prāṇī. Prāṇī means those who have this prāṇa inside. Every creature, every living being, is called prāṇī. Even the bacteria, the viruses—they are very intelligent. They travel quicker than you. There is some virus in Hungary. Now you are going to New York. This virus will be before you already in New York because you are going to New York via Frankfurt, and the one who has the virus is flying directly from Budapest to New York. So the virus is already there, and when you come out two hours late, then he tells you, "Jó napot kívánok!" Jó napot kívánok! And they have their own system to multiply, and they know where to go and how to go. Well, they are very fine microbes, very small but very powerful. Small but powerful. They can throw down an elephant. That’s it. So God protect us from this. Such a virus and bacteria, but they also have the prāṇa. So, all living beings have prāṇa, and this is called prāṇī. And when you die, it is said prāṇa chhod die—you give up the prāṇa, or the prāṇa leaves you. You come and touch. No more prāṇa. No more prāṇa. Sorry. He’s died. Now, if the soul is prāṇa, or prāṇa is the soul, what is that? Either we say living being, there’s life inside, or we say it’s a soul, the soul, the life, the prāṇa. You cannot understand; you have to realize. And prāṇa is also in nourishment. Nothing exists in this world where there is no prāṇa. But if you eat sāttvic, fresh food, like fruits, vegetables, vegetable juice, milk, honey, direct milk—when milk is two hours old, then it has no prāṇa inside. Two hours late, the milk baby will not drink. The baby goes directly to the mother. When the milk is old, prāṇa is nearly gone. But we cannot keep cows in every flat now. Our modern way of life is, unfortunately, changed. All the time, when one house was built, they left a yard within the house. The front part of the building, some buildings, then backside buildings, between was a yard. This yard was designed for your animals: cow, donkeys, horses, goats, sheep. We call that Gavāḍī. Means cow, the yard of the cows, place of the cows. And these animals have a very positive radiance on you. It balances the psyche of humans, harmonizing. They give you also something, not that you are, so, vegetable, milk, and honey, the nuts. Clean, pure water, these have more prāṇa. And when prāṇa has left the body, and death is declared, one has died, then there is still some prāṇa inside. But that’s called death prāṇa. Now, when you eat the dead body—means the meat—that vital prāṇa does not go into your body. And so you have more than negative prāṇa in your body, which will kill your good prāṇas. And it can cause very serious illnesses also. These are all for those who understand something and who understand life. Therefore, it is advised for humans, especially, to nourish themselves as vegetarians. It is said that ill people used to come to Jesus, and Jesus used to heal them. He told them, "You are ill because you don’t eat what you should eat, and you are eating what you should not eat. You should eat the corn and the rice which are growing in the field. Fruits and nuts, which are given by nature on the trees. And the essence of all these herbs is the honey. And milk." Yes, that is a sāttvic food. That is exactly what the many, many thousands of years before, yogīs and Āyurveda said. So, Āyurveda: Āyur means the life, Veda means the knowledge. The knowledge of your life: how to live healthy, long, happy, harmonious. So the prāṇa is very important. And when you are very tired, you say, "Oh, I have no more energy." Move. Why can’t you move? You are here, move. You cannot because there is no prāṇa. So also we can receive prāṇa through prayers, prāṇa through movement. A healthy person, if they lie down in bed for one week, then can’t get up and walk quickly. They will become ill. So movement, walking, working is prāṇa. Producing the prāṇa, so we are not inhaling and exhaling the prāṇa. But the whole body is inhaling and exhaling. Therefore, it is said that the cloth which you are using should be made from natural material, not synthetic, because our body is inhaling, skin is inhaling. You know, they used to say that in France, when they had kings or the people that were in a party—I heard this; I am not sure. And if you know this also, then say yes—then, an owner of the party took one beautiful lady and painted her whole body with gold, and she died. She was standing there as a golden lady, but her body couldn’t breathe, and she died. Do you know this? Yes, thank you. So, but you need not do this. We don’t need a golden lady, okay? We need a biological lady. People who are running behind gold are blind. There was one man, and he said, "I want to have a lot of gold." But he couldn’t get it. He wanted to have everything out of gold: my windows, my doors, my walls, my bed, my carpets, bathroom tiles. Yes, desire. Hobbies? So, someone told, only God can fulfill your wish. So, he said, "Then how? Go into the forest and meditate and call God. When God comes, ask Him, 'Give me gold.' God will give you. Only God can give you all this. How much do you want?" So, for about 15 years, he was doing sādhanā in the forest, tapasyā. Then finally, God said, "Oh, poor man, let’s go." God came. "Yes, my child, what do you wish?" He said, "I’m surprised." God said, "Why? Are you God?" He said, "Yes, then why do you ask what I wish? You know everything, God. Oh, my God." God said, "I wish I would not have come." We also put God, in front of God, we put the conditions. Well, he said, "Lord, bless me." "With what?" "Whatever I touch becomes gold." God said, "Why? What will you do with so much gold? That’s my problem. You give me this siddhi, that’s all." God said, "Well, I think it will be a problem for you." "Say no. You just give me the siddhi, the power in my hands. I touch and become gold. Anything." Well, God said, like parents tell the children, "Even ice cream is not healthy, but you have it." So God said, "All right." Then he took the stone and became gold. He said, "Thank you, Lord. My life mission is finished. Now I will be in the book of Genesis, the richest man in the world. But when you die, you will be exactly as poor as any other dead body." Well, he came home, and his grandchild came. "Oh, Grandpapa!" After so many years, I hugged the father. And the grandfather touched the child, and the child became gold. A golden baby! His wife came, "How are you? Is it very nice?" She is also gold, my God! "Bring me water." He touched the water; it is gold. "I am hungry. Bread," gold. Everything becomes gold, gold. He can’t eat, he can’t drink, no one dares to come near him. Now he is so unhappy, he runs back, "God, please, please..." Again, God came. He didn’t take so long. He said, "Please take away this power." I say, "Why do you want gold?" "I don’t want gold, please." So, you know, money always brings you problems, but money never brings you happiness. Happiness can bring only wisdom in a contentment. So, they are painting the ladies in gold, and they became like mummies because the skin couldn’t breathe. Prāṇa goes through the whole body. Therefore, utilize cotton, a natural material. Well, like these āsanas, prāṇāyāmas, everything has its meaning. And there are also called mudrās. And mudras are a special posture. Mudras are language, language, indication. And mudrās can make you happy or can make you unhappy. In here, when you go to the doctor, and the doctor says you are healthy, you will say, "Ah, thank you." My doctor said, "Okay," but when you say it in India like this, it means to sow the tongue there. It will not make you happy. So this mudra, which finger, what it means, is it more than enough to create happiness or troubles? Like this, there are certain mudrās, postures, which influence energy. And bandhas, which we spoke about the day before yesterday evening: Mūla Bandha, Uḍḍīyāna Bandha, and Jālandhara Bandha. Yesterday evening, we practiced a little bit of Brahmari Prāṇāyāma, and we spoke about the resonance, the sound, Nāda. There were ten different sounds. These ten sounds are connecting with the ten indriyas, the five senses of knowledge and five senses of action, jñāna-indriyas and karma-indriyas. These ten senses also, parallel to these ten senses, are running also ten prāṇa. It’s called five prāṇas and five upa prāṇas. And these ten different kinds of prāṇa, which are circulating through the body, are very important for us. And these prāṇas are purified through the prāṇāyāma and bandhas, through the movements also. And through the nourishment, this prāṇa is purified. You know, especially the Hungarians, Hungarians are world-famous in agriculture, and especially in growing garlic. And here, second, is the garlic, and paprika, and melon, and corn. God has given you very good soil and good climate. Now, you know what happens when you eat garlic. How the prāṇa is disturbed inside. Garlic produces more apāna, and apāna prāṇa is not healthy for the body. Though garlic purifies the blood, garlic is like a septic, an antiseptic. Garlic thins the blood, and for the heart, it is said garlic is good. But in yoga and in Āyurveda, garlic is prohibited. Why? When it’s so good, it has a medical effect on the heart, blood, and circulation—populations, skins, yes. But at the same time, it has a very much negative power. And that is Apāna Prāṇa. Prāṇa is that which is inhalation. Taking from the body in, it is the function, the ability to receive, to filter negative energy and only take the best part. Apāna is the outgoing force. If there is no apāna, you will die. Why? You can’t exhale. You can’t pass urine and code. Your used tissues from the body, the dead cells, cannot be reduced. They remain stuck in the body, because apāna śakti is not there. Now, therefore, in certain parts of the body, when the old tissues are not cleaned out through the Apāna Śakti, then these old tissues, they store there. They store there, and they build, or they form a knot, and that knot, or a gland, what you call the tumor, metastasis, metastasis, which they declare in medicine, cancer. They become so aggressive, and they can send the cells into the whole body. Why? Because Apāṇa Śakti is not strong enough. A prāṇa śakti works together with our immunity system. And when our immunity is strong, then we are not worried about it at all. Immunity is your bodyguard. Immunity is your security. Immunity is your border. The border police seal your border and don’t let any foreigners in. So any foreign particle enters into the body, immediately the immunity will attack there. And the Apāna Śakti will come to reject this, out of body. You may have to suffer for that: vomiting, diarrhea, sweating, many, many things. But the immunity said it must go out; these are all foreign particles. And so now, apāna and the immunity work together very much. And the prāṇa is that śakti which nourishes your immunity system. Now, which kind of food should we take in which there is more prāṇa śakti? Also, in the prāṇa, mainly you can take the oxygen. So, oxygen also has a great meaning for that. So, yogīs say, don’t look to the quantity, but look to the quality. In the quality, there is a quantity, which means of the prāṇa. And in the quantity, there is a little quality. Therefore, it is not a quantity, but it is something harmful. You see, how much prāṇa have the fruits? I give you one imagination. Close your eyes. Now, just close the eyes and relax. Relax the whole body. And ten times deep inhale and exhale. One. Slowly deep inhale. Imagine a beautiful winter: snow, everything is white, cold. Imagine the spring: days are longer, birds are singing, and nature wakes up. Green month of May and June, many herbs, many flowers, many butterflies and other creatures. Beautiful warm day, you are in your garden, standing under your cherry tree. Beautiful, red, big cherries live. Imagine now you take one cherry in the mouth, and you bite. The cherry juice exploding. The whole mouth is full of very fresh cherry juice. The taste of the cherry is more than you could think. The juice. That’s prāṇa. Don’t eat too much. Open your eyes. Thank you. Well, this was just a little trip through the garden, you know. So the fresh things, only when we could think of it, it gives us the happiness in prāṇa. And something is dead and is spoiled. You take it in the mouth. You want to quickly swallow it. The good quality of the food, and where there are good spices inside, herbs—as much as you chew, that much taste develops. And what you call fast food, if you chew a little longer, you can’t swallow. He will say, "Ah, clean the mouth, because that food has no prāṇa." Just a white flower. The white flower. Therefore, let’s make one experience. From now onwards, for six months, try to take that nourishment which is more fresh, and observe your health condition. And the Khaṭupranām, 11 rounds a day, minimum, will improve your immune system. The chakras, especially the Manipūra chakra, are very much responsible for the immune system—the digestive fire. So, who doesn’t know the Kathuparāṇam? Well, I’m surprised. Everyone knows, when you come home after work, it doesn’t matter which kind of work you are doing, do five to eleven rounds of Kathuparanam. You will feel very relaxed and full of energy again. Or in your office, when you are very tired, instead of drinking two or three coffees, make three to five katupranāms. Make an experiment with your colleagues. Let five colleagues drink coffee, and let five do the Kaṭhūpraṇām with deep breathing, and then compare the capacity of their working hours. The people who did Kaṭhūpraṇām and this Prāṇāyām, Brahmari Prāṇāyām, have more capacity to work than those who drank coffee. I’m not against the coffee, please. And I have no business against the coffee. And friends who like coffee, please go and drink. I don’t want to take away your joy of coffee. I don’t want to say if coffee is healthy or not healthy. If you like, it’s healthy. And on that day when you will not like it, it means you are not healthy anymore. So, it is a personal decision. What I am saying to you, the Kathuparanam will give you more energy than this, what you call, doping. So, coffee is also doping. That’s it. So, Kāṭhūpāraṇam and Brahmari Prāṇāyāma. And you can do it in the office also. Tell your colleagues now we have to close our eyes because the computer’s battery is empty. We have to recharge the battery. This computer, close eyes and close the ears like this, it functions. All the centers which were in tension, that’s called stress. With this resonance, they were relaxed. It is that resonance which relaxes the whole brain centers and nerve systems, the central nerves: Iḍā, Piṅgalā, and Suṣumṇā. So please, first you will, when you close... Eyes, imagine this part of the body inside the head, and then the humming sound, resonance, and try to concentrate on or listen to the sound within the head. And you will see that those parts which are in tension are getting relaxed. And eyes are closed, and you will see beautiful lightning. Let’s do it now. Why not? It doesn’t cost anymore. Ami már került valamiben, az meg volt ezzel a három újjal. Becsukhatod a szemedet, és a hüvelykujjaddal a füledet csukd be. You can lean a little bit to your chair. Deep inhale. And you can do three times, four times, five times, until I instruct you to stop. Don’t hurry. Don’t overdo. And feel, accept the resonance which relaxes you. And your eyes are getting relaxed. Deep inhale. After this round, keep your eyes closed. Ez után, a kör után, maradjon csukva a szemed. Keep your ears plucked. Még maradjon bedugva a füled. And just listen and feel and observe your head. Csuk éreled. How relaxed you feel. És hallgasd a fejedet, hogy milyen ellazultnak érzed magad. And slowly, open your eyes, and put your hands on the thighs. Lassan nyisd ki a szemed, és a kezeidet a combodra helyezd. Do you feel relaxed? Ellazultanak érzed magad? People who are working on the computer the whole day, they have a big problem with eye pressure. Nagy problémát szenvednek a szemnyomástól, and this is very good for them. Even without producing loud sound, you can do just close like this, eyes. Very gentle inside. You will hear very loud inside already. Very slow, like this. Hardly your neighbor can hear. But you will hear inside, it creates a resonance, harmonizing everything. There is a call, a rose water, or neem tree water. Put the neem leaves in the water. Let it be the whole night in it. The next day, filter it with a coffee filter. And take it to your office. Just this much, that’s all. When, after writing on the computer, you feel tired, take two cotton buds, soak them in neem water, squeeze out a little water, put them on your eyes, and relax for a while. Five minutes, three minutes. Afterwards, you will feel so relaxed. Your eyes will be so happy. Oh, now I can work. You can say, "Yes, boss, go ahead." These are the additional exercises which give you good prāṇa. It helps you to create good prāṇa. And, of course, our energy centers, the chakras in the body, they also influence us through this Brahmari prāṇāyāma. If you can’t sleep, then do this Brahmari Prāṇāyāma. What happens? The Brahmārī Prāṇāyāma filters out all unnecessary thoughts. As soon as you listen to the inner sound, concentrate on the inner sound, you have no time to concentrate and listen to other thoughts. So the thoughts and the stress are automatically gone. Now you can sleep and relax. Therefore, these are very useful exercises which I gave you today: to harmonize your body, mind, and soul. Testedet, elmedet, lelkedet.
