World peace

A discourse on the causes of world conflict and the spiritual path to peace.

"We do not have world peace; we have a world in pieces."

"World peace can only be possible if we respect them, if we respect their belief, and that is what is missing."

The speaker analyzes the primary obstacle to global harmony as the intolerance and conversion efforts found within major religions, including Islam, Christianity, and Hinduism. He argues that fanaticism makes religion a greater source of suffering than politics and contradicts democracy, which he equates with yogic ideals of freedom. The solution presented is for individuals to cultivate personal respect and love for all cultures, traditions, and faiths.

We do not have world peace; we have a world in pieces. This is a problem. How, then, can we imagine achieving world peace? Is it possible? It can be, and it is possible, but we need the support of everyone. Peace begins in our own heart. There is a very important point to understand about why there is no world peace. This question is crucial. Unless we know the cause, we cannot find the solution. It is human nature to seek the origin. It seems the conflict comes from those who have no respect or tolerance for other cultures and religions, and therefore, peace is not possible. They call it a holy war, but war cannot be holy. They speak of war against non-believers and atheists. What do they mean? They mean that whoever does not believe in Islam or Allāh is a non-believer. They want everyone to become Muslim. Similarly, in other parts of the world, those who do not believe in Jesus and Catholicism are considered other non-believers. Missionary work is active globally, and this missionary activity is one of the causes of these divisions. On the other side, when Hindus think that all should become Hindu, there too lies the problem. We think world peace can only be achieved if others join us, and that is the very issue. World peace can only be possible if we respect them, if we respect their belief, and that is what is missing. Therefore, you all should develop in your consciousness a mutual understanding and tolerance towards other cultures, religions, traditions, and nations. If you remember, last time I spoke here in this same hall, I mentioned that every child says, "My mother is the best mother in the world." So, which mother is not a good mother? This is what we can learn from a small child. Every religion is a good religion. No religion is a bad religion. The world is suffering because we do not understand God in proper ways. I would say that in the world, people are suffering more due to religion than due to politics. Last week, I was asked several times: Is religion the key to world peace or not? And does religion support democracy, or is religion an obstacle to democracy? If religion becomes fanatic, then it is an obstacle to democracy. Where there is no democracy, there is no freedom and respect for human rights. The problem is that some people misuse the name of God and place others in circumstances where they feel compelled to adopt that belief. Democratic ideas are yogic ideas: everyone should be free, everyone should have their own choice, everyone has the right to say what they want to say, and everyone should have the chance to enjoy and lead life in every aspect with equal rights. We would like to make all happy, but we do not give them the freedom to be happy. Therefore, if you would like to contribute something for world peace, then from today onwards, make your heart free and open for all the creatures suffering on this planet. Accept in your heart respect and love for all cultures, nations, colors, traditions, and religions. Recording location: Slovenia, Maribor, Seminar
