Welcome your destiny

A concluding spiritual discourse on grace, surrender, and daily spiritual practice.

"Problems are the school of life; we learn many things, and often learn better, from them."

"Before we sleep, let us turn to God and say: 'Dear Lord, I thank you for all that has happened today—the good, the bad, the difficult, the easy, the joyful, or the sad events. I offer it all as flowers at Thy lotus feet.'"

The speaker offers final guidance to departing attendees, emphasizing the need to welcome destiny and learn from life's troubles. A central practice is a detailed bedtime prayer of total surrender, thanking God for all daily experiences and entrusting one's being to divine will. The talk also addresses handling unintended negative actions, like accidentally harming a creature, through prayer and forgiveness, advising the use of discrimination (viveka) to clear each day's account.

Our program is now concluding, and you have a long journey ahead. It is winter, and it is good to reach your destination in daylight. There are still many, many things to learn in our life. We are not free from troubles. Yet, problems are the school of life; we learn many things, and often learn better, from them. It is very important that we learn to empty negative things from our mind, welcome our destiny, and not run away from it. Many times, events occur that we do not understand. But a day will come when you will be so happy that they happened. We wait for something for a long, long time, but God knows the time is not right. Therefore, we shall face life's situations and circumstances with a smiling face—not only smiling outwardly, but from within. At the end of the day, before going to bed, one should say to God: "O Merciful One, thank you for the good and pleasant, the unpleasant, the happy and hard experiences of this day." Before we sleep, let us turn to God and say: "Dear Lord, I thank you for all that has happened today—the good, the bad, the difficult, the easy, the joyful, or the sad events. I offer it all as flowers at Thy lotus feet. Take it and bless me with those things which I deserve. My body, mind, intellect, senses, and my soul—I place all my indriyas in Your hands. Protect my sleep. Consciously or unconsciously, in dream or without dream, whatever may happen through my being in this sleep, Lord, forgive me. I give my life into Your hands. Direct my whole day and let me do what is Your divine will. I am not the doer; only You are the doer. All the energies, all the powers which dwell in my heart, in my intellect, and in my senses—Lord, guide them, protect them." Then again, in the evening, you offer everything to the Lord, whatever you have done, good or bad. In this way, we can free and clear the account of the 24 hours. Otherwise, day by day, becoming more and more, you are overloading yourself. And one day you will not be able to master life's situations. Sometimes things happen even if we do not want them to, and we are saddened. For example, you are driving a car and you hit a bird, or some innocent animal crossing the road. That poor creature has done nothing to you, but while driving, you killed it. This was not your intention; you did not want to do this. Though you did not want it, it happened. And what has happened, has happened. What we can do is only to pray and to ask for forgiveness. You know, when we drive cars in the summer, especially in the morning and evening, how many creatures are hit by your car and die? It can happen just while walking. It can happen in your house. So many times it happens—physically, mentally, emotionally, intellectually, verbally. We do not want to say something, but suddenly we speak a harsh word and then we are sorry for our whole life. Therefore, the wise ones, who use viveka (discrimination), clear up the day entirely. So, anything that happens, even if you do not know or do not want it, utilize these two words: understand and forgive. And pray for that. --- Recording location: Hungary, Vep, welcome seminar
