A Message of Shared Purpose

A speech and message reading at an international peace summit.

"Wherever he sees the seed of peace, he is willing to water it."

"Global peace is the utmost need of the day. It can be achieved through coexistence, mutual trust, and cooperation among the people of the world."

A representative of the Namdhari Sikhs addresses the conference convened by Swami Maheshwarananda. He shares the history of mutual support between their spiritual leaders before reading a formal message from Sri Satguru Jagjit Singh Ji. The message calls for global cooperation, protection of the vulnerable, and the elimination of man-made conflicts to achieve world peace.

Swāmījī, distinguished guests, this entire galaxy of dignitaries, ladies and gentlemen. According to the schedule, my time was to be after lunch, so this has come as a pleasant surprise. I would like to say a few words and then read the message sent from India by Śrī Satgurū Jagjīt Singh Jī, the spiritual head of the Nāmdhārī Sikhs. I wish to share with all of you the relationship between Swāmījī and Śrī Satgurūjī. This is a relationship that goes back almost twelve years. Satgurūjī has always been a promoter of peace. He works with the World Peace Council as an advisor, and wherever he sees the seed of peace, he is willing to water it. So, when I informed His Holiness that Swāmījī had taken such a significant leap in wanting to promote peace, he said, "That is my family." He could not be here himself today and has asked me to represent him. This is a great honour, and it is a great honour to be with you. Our actions are profoundly important. When we see what Swāmījī has done, what he has put together—and as the previous speaker mentioned regarding yoga and how we can change our lives—I think we all sometimes need a push. That push may be spiritual, or it may concern our health, but we need a nudge from our own nature. With due respect to all, humans can be very lazy, so we need that impetus. Then we have spiritual persons, politicians, or others who give us that push. Sometimes, it is our own doing; we get ourselves into a situation, a dilemma, and then we think about how to escape it—like the Ozonloch (ozone hole), as they say in German, or environmental issues, or AIDS, or other challenges. These are our own creations. If we listen to spiritual identities, if we listen to people who possess greater perception than we do, then I believe we can move forward happy, healthy, and holy. With these few words, I would like to read the message from His Holiness Śrī Satgurū Jagjīt Singh Jī Mahārāj on this occasion. The message is as follows: "I am much pleased to learn that an international summit on world peace is being convened by Swāmī Maheshwarānanda on the occasion of the first anniversary of the Mahāsamādhi day of his beloved master, His Holiness Dharmasamrāṭ Paramahaṁsa Swāmī Mādhavānandajī. Global peace is the utmost need of the day. It can be achieved through coexistence, mutual trust, and cooperation among the people of the world. The present-day conflicts are man-made. Nature and God do not differentiate man from man. Sadhgurū Rām Singh Jī propagated the message of world peace by asking us to throw all weapons, arms, and armaments into the ocean. Satgurū Pratāp Singh Jī maintained that world peace cannot be possible without protecting all animals, the poor, and the downtrodden from human cruelty. All conflicts can be eliminated by protecting others' rights and by willingly donating a part of your own right. My message to the international participants attending this World Conference is that we must, as soon as possible, evolve an international environment for the protection of the rights, safety, and development of all humanity. I wish this summit on world peace all blessings and success. Śrī Satgurū Jagjīt Singh Jī."
