To save one meant condemning the other. The master, bound by love and duty to both, faced a profound spiritual crisis. His initial absolute assurance was tested by this concrete predicament. The Mangala Caranam is the auspicious invocation of the holy feet. This initial step is a prayer for the divine presence. The holy feet, or lotus feet, represent the Guru's grace. We pray for the Guru to enter and reside within our home. Wherever the Guru is, there is supreme bliss and auspiciousness. The dust from those feet is the holiest substance. This devotion establishes the foundation for all spiritual practice. The entire path flows from this reverence for the sacred source. When the asurī śakti comes into power, distraction begins. This age is marked by wars, earthquakes, and floods. The planet now faces great challenges, threatened by its own child, humanity. What is called development is a path to destruction through pollution. The result is the loss of life and the planet itself. Wars have occurred in the name of religion and resources; now water is in question. This is a water planet, and our bodies are mostly water. The only hope is to keep the planet green, protect its waters, and control pollution consciously. Śrī Gaṇeśa is the deity of auspiciousness and the remover of obstacles. Remember him at the start of any new endeavor to ensure it proceeds without hindrance. Śrī represents prosperity and spirituality, and Gaṇeśa is the lord of all elements and beings. One cannot reach the ultimate reality directly, just as one cannot approach a president without first passing through clerks, or know the soul without the body. Therefore, honor Gaṇeśa as a sacred intermediary. Place his image respectfully in your home. Similarly, holy scriptures are not mere books but the embodied voice of pure souls; only those with pure hearts will find true knowledge within their words. Karma is the supreme, impersonal law governing all existence, even God. God operates within this law, granting outcomes according to one's accumulated karma, not in defiance of it. A story illustrates a king who, becoming a renunciant, chose not to worship deities bound by temporary heavenly karma, nor even God who is subject to it, but to bow directly to karma itself. All action, good or bad, performed through body, mind, speech, or wealth, constitutes karma. The mental intention is primary, as negative thought is itself a karmic act before any physical deed. Speech, once released, is an irrevocable action with profound consequences. Thus, well-being and spiritual success, as in yoga, are rooted in understanding and engaging with this fundamental law. The holy book's name reveals its essence: Vijñāna is the specific science of the Self, Dīpa is the inner light, and Gītā is the song of that glory. This song connects one to immortal truth. Unlike fleeting worldly pleasures, the truth within holy books is eternal and unchanging. Reading these immortal words always opens new perspectives, offering fresh insight with each encounter. The same essential truth appears across all holy scriptures, though cultural expressions may vary. These words are nectar, uniting the seeker with supreme reality. The summer program is a dedicated time for spiritual practice and stabilization. Throughout the year, life's fluctuations create unstable mental patterns. Daily situations cause constant changes in thoughts and emotions, preventing a steady state of being. This instability is like electrical fluctuation, requiring a stabilizer. Spiritual practice, like mantra and prayer, serves as that stabilizer to steady the mind. Life presents many difficulties for everyone, which can become opportunities for development. The purpose of this time is to clean the inner mirror of dust collected over the year. Regular prayer and mantra will keep that mirror clean. "One day you are very happy, the other day not so happy. You must be a light that enlightens the darkness of negative speech by rearranging your thinking. Human consciousness contains the divine capacity to unite the universe, so it must not be polluted, or suffering continues. Your words are more destructive than atom bombs; measure them, for a spoken word cannot be taken back. The answer for everyone is to live and let live, to be happy and make others happy. Teach what you have learned, but not as a master, or it will not function. Your life is in your hands; make it happy and make others' lives happy. If you lack peace within yourself or your small group, you cannot achieve world peace. Therefore, concern yourself only with your real Self. The Guru Upaniṣad is the wisdom heard by a disciple sitting near the master. Different sages instructed their disciples, creating the Upaniṣads. The teaching is a flowing river; aspirants collect its water according to the capacity of their vessel, their own consciousness. Those with pure hearts receive much, while those with doubt or negativity receive little or misunderstand. Negative qualities like jealousy and greed dirty the vessel, corrupting the wisdom received. A snake fed milk still produces poison, symbolizing a corrupted nature. Bamboo symbolizes a hard, egoistic nature that creates conflict and absorbs nothing, its internal knots blocking understanding. The Bindu Chakra is a center at the crown of the head that produces ambrosia. It is seen as a whorl in the hair. This center supports longevity and memory, developed through specific yoga practices. The nectar it yields is not a conventional sweetness; its taste is different, akin to enlightenment. Enlightenment is the light of wisdom, not physical sight. This ambrosia exists as minute drops, yet its radiance is potent. Its awakening corresponds to the divine vibration generated within. Kriyā practice transforms destiny by purifying stored karma and cultivating a new, protective power. If you cannot help others, at least do not harm them, for destiny does not forgive. Understanding mantra is understanding destiny, recognizing the human as the center of cosmic energy. Kriyā purifies the bodily systems by reaching the consciousness where karma is stored. Like stirring settled dust in a water tank, it agitates accumulated karmic residues. Mantras and positive mental tendencies act as a filter. Your original destiny remains, but you develop a parallel, more powerful destiny through practice. This new destiny, fueled by selfless service and adherence to the Guru's word, offers protection via grace. Therefore, do not neglect your spiritual practice. The body is a temple for the Ātmā and must be kept divine through daily cleaning, prayer, and ceremony, which are spiritual acts, not religious ones. While religion and spirituality are hard to divide, one analogy is that religion is the outer skin of a banana, protecting the inner fruit of spirituality, yet we often fight over these outer things. Tolerance, mutual understanding, and harmony are vital. A frog in a small pond believed its world was the entire universe until placed in a vast, harmonious ocean, realizing a much larger and more harmonious world exists. The distinction between Divine will and karmic destiny is essential. Bad thoughts and actions arise from denying or misunderstanding Divine will, not from the Divine itself. A story illustrates this: a disciple, believing God is in everyone, did not flee a mad elephant, thinking it contained God and would not harm him. He was injured. His master corrected him, noting he failed to see God also in the people warning him to flee. This shows ignorance leads to poor action. It is easy to claim "I am not the doer," but we often forget this principle when we desire something. We must use our discrimination. Do not assume all you do is Divine will; it may be your destiny, which is the reaction of your past karmas. That is the will of your karmas, not Divine will. "Bad deeds and bad thoughts come from negating the will of God." "Do not think that now whatever you will do is Divine will. It may be your destiny, and destiny is the reaction of your karmas." The observance is a remembrance, not a celebration. It is a time to pay homage through prayer, song, and good acts in the name of the departed. For a worldly person, prayers are offered for liberation or for the well-being of the departed soul. For a departed divine being, prayers seek blessings and forgiveness, as from the astral level they see all actions. The duty of every ashram is to organize this satsaṅg on the correct day, regardless of attendance or work schedules. Time does not wait; the observance must happen on its appointed date. This practice is self-sustaining within the tradition. "From that astral level, they see everything through and through: what you did and what you are doing." A spiritual practitioner's ego obscures true attainment. A man meditated for decades, lamenting he gained no powers. A bird's dropping angered him; his glance coincided with its death, inflating his pride. He journeyed to a village to proclaim his greatness. A girl drawing water repeatedly asked his name, Sitalpurī, meaning 'the cool, peaceful one.' After he drank, she stated he was not cool but a 'hot purī,' consumed by anger. She revealed she knew of the bird, saying, "I practiced." He collapsed, realizing his ego was visible to one who practiced yoga in daily life. We do not see our own ego, just as eyes see everything but themselves. By looking within through meditation, one sees both beautiful qualities and negative ones like jealousy and anger. The great are those who master ego, not destroy it. This mastery is the key to genuine spiritual attainment. "Why don't you get siddhi or samādhi now that you have been practicing for so many years?" We are born to serve, to help each other. One hand cleans the other; with only one hand, cleaning is difficult. To be alone is to be individualistic, selfish, and full of doubt. A yogī is not so. Life is beautiful; we are blessed. We pray to be an instrument for service. God has a garden where all creatures seek His divine look. A bamboo in the garden repeatedly asks to be God's. God says He loves it but will cause it pain. He explains He must cut a branch to make a flute, whose divine sound will open hardened hearts and create harmony. The bamboo accepts. Later, God says He must cut the bamboo's main trunk to use it as a channel, a pipe, to bring water to a thirsty land. The bamboo bargains, asking God to visit it daily, or it will stop the water. God promises to be constantly present, so the bamboo becomes the channel through which divine love flows. We must be that strong, holy bamboo, the instrument God carries. Trees hold the memory of divine moments and spiritual revelations. Scriptures were composed and enlightenment was attained beneath them. They faithfully witness all events, enduring every condition. Human life is also a tree, with roots in the brain and branches as limbs, as described in the Bhagavad Gītā. The Vedas speak of one universal God present in every atom and being. This Divine Principle governs all, and from time to time, it manifests through incarnations. Other beings are born according to karma, which is reincarnation. The divine will governs everything; no worldly power can change this universal truth of dharma. Only devotees, through surrender and love, can transform adharma into dharma and alter karma. Every breath is a precious diamond, for its total number in a lifetime is fixed by destiny. You cannot increase this count, but you can slow the rate of breathing. Those who practice prāṇāyāma and meditation are not ruled by fear, jealousy, or anger. A person who is angry or jealous breathes too quickly and kills their own healthy cells; this is a form of lifelong suicide. There are two kinds of devils: one that drinks the blood of others, and the second, which is your own anger, drinks your blood and the blood of others. Jealousy is a constant, unhealthy fixation, unlike the healthier thoughts of a beloved. By calming the breath through spiritual practice, one finds peace and a reduced, comfortable breath rate. Ultimately, you are the one who must help yourself by remaining steadfast under the shelter of the Guru's grace. The most difficult spiritual practice is to observe your mental modifications. You must ensure no thoughts enter that weaken your willpower for practice or create doubts in your devotion. All other disciplines are not as important as this primary task. The essential aim is to keep your consciousness uninfected. Guard your mind constantly. Stay under the umbrella. This vigilance is the core practice. Self-help is achieved through this surrendered vigilance. The path requires this internal guardianship above all else. "To observe your vṛttis, to ensure that no thoughts enter your consciousness which weaken your willpower to practice your spiritual sādhanā." True knowledge is the knowledge of the Self, which ends all suffering and karma. This Self-realization is the ultimate answer, like a light that reveals everything clearly, making one the knower of all time. However, this absolute Self cannot be realized while one remains attached to unreality. Duality is ignorance; only the one Brahman is everlasting. All forms and creation are temporary and will be destroyed, but Brahman, like space, is the indestructible Self within. We are not the body but are covered by attachments and negative qualities. We must move from theoretical knowledge to practical realization through meditation. "Where there are two, it is not everlasting; it is unreality." Cultivate the power of friendship, or maitrībhāva. Patañjali taught that immense strength lies in friendship. The Vedic sentiment "may all be happy" embodies this feeling. It is very difficult to acquire true friends, which requires dedication and an open heart. Therefore, the gathering is a place to make many friends, who are your well-wishers. Never think "I do not like to go there because they do not like me," as this is a self-destructive thought that surrenders one's intellect. In any field of life, this remedy of friendship, kindness, and love leads to success and happiness. It is you who can make friends or make yourself unhappy, so do not give up this maitrībhāva. Do not let practice be influenced by selfish critics. Cultural and religious differences have caused suffering. We are civilized and can reach Mars, yet we still struggle for happiness. Happiness and love are universal rights, which this system addresses. Thousands work for this globally; millions practice and benefit. It is like a flowing river from which all can drink. The path requires mastering senses and controlling mind to merge one's self with the self of all beings. This state is very hard to achieve. When attained, one performs action without being affected by it; though doing, you are not doing. The practitioner's soul must be pure: without jealousy, anger, hatred, complexes, or greed. We possess these challenging qualities in abundance. "It concerns one who has mastered his senses and controlled his mind; whose self has become one with the self of all beings." Your right is to action alone. You are born for action, equipped with instruments for work and perception, along with a unique mind and intellect for decision. Your entitlement is solely to perform your duty. You inevitably act, yet you cling to expecting specific results. The instruction is clear: your right is to the work alone, never to its fruits. This is because your understanding of action's full consequence is limited. The outcome belongs to a higher authority who comprehends the complete picture. Relinquish your claim to the results. Khatu Praṇām is a vital yoga series for holistic harmony. I designed this sequence, which research and practitioners indicate strengthens the immune system and regenerates the body. Unlike Sūrya Namaskāra, Khatu Praṇām affects every chakra, including the Sahasrāra. The spoken word is a universal arrow, understood individually. Sacred texts resonate because they address our inner needs. We all carry burdens to resolve, often silently. Satsaṅg provides the hints for this inner awakening. You cannot have enough of it, for each gathering is unique. You may attend countless times before receiving the precise word you have sought across lifetimes. Just as an artist practices relentlessly to become a champion, so must one listen to satsaṅg. The same sentence, heard a thousand times, may finally pierce through. A story illustrates this. An elderly, poor couple went to gather wood. A deity wished to grant them gold coins placed on their path. That day, the couple, pondering the plight of the blind, chose to blindfold themselves to practice walking without sight. Walking thus, they stumbled upon the gold, cursed it as stones placed by a fool, and passed it by. Their intellect and discernment had blinded themselves. The world is the forest, and you carry your karmas. When intellect operates without the eyes of devotion and dispassion, it becomes blind. You may walk the same path for years, but on the day the gold appears, you are not present or are inattentive. You miss the one great chance. "The same sentences you have heard a thousand times may, this time, be the arrow that pierces through and through." "Just on that day, something is there for you, and you are not in satsaṅg. Every day is a golden day for the saint, not the worldly person. A saint can be a householder, but a householder is not automatically a saint. A diamond has no pride, whether in garbage or treasure; we are the ones who prize it. The problem is self-made masters and teachers. A story tells of a fox, saved by a rock during a flood, who decided to fast like a great yogi. When a rabbit floated by, he immediately abandoned his fast, thinking God had sent it. A wave carried the rabbit away, and the fox thanked God for preserving his discipline. Such self-made masters are dangerous and blind, unable to lead others. First, we must have a spiritual lineage and heritage, then achieve something and remain faithful. Even in household life, one can be spiritual. "Let others prize you; you should not prize yourself." A true ruler must synthesize all yogic paths. To be a Karma Yogi is to work for the country and its people. To be a Bhakti Yogi is to serve them with love and care for their spiritual development. To be a Jnana Yogi is to possess wisdom. Only such a person, a Raja Yogi—a king of yoga and self-discipline—can be successful. Any other will fail. True spiritual wealth, not worldly attachments, is the real and lasting fortune. Satsang and divine discourse are rare. Worldly riches like family and wealth are common and do not bring true happiness, as even sinners possess them. Spiritual richness, however, accompanies the soul across many lifetimes. This is the real wealth. It is gained through the rare companionship of saints. Material wealth, born of ignorance, is easily earned by anyone. We must take concrete action, transcending the limitations of religions, cultures, and nations. Conferences involve talk, but little is implemented. We must write down clear points for action and commit to following them. We can avoid many dependencies and make people conscious of different paths. Share knowledge on replacing artificial fertilizers and pesticides with natural alternatives. We must learn to help each other, focusing on organic produce and safe alternatives for soaps and cosmetics. Establishing a center for comprehensive health programs can awaken a new consciousness, for protecting the planet is a spiritual act. This significant undertaking, encompassing yoga and holistic well-being, will take time but will be successful. The disciple often fails to recognize the Master's value while He is physically present. It is not given to everyone to understand their own master. Being physically close is insufficient if one's heart remains unfeeling. Mortality is inherent to creation; all must depart in time, and we must accept this. We frequently realize our shortcomings too late. Yet, a divine Incarnation differs, serving the entire world and all creation. Sarasvatī is the essential goddess for all students and practitioners of knowledge. Pray to her for success in written and oral examinations, asking her to reside in your pen and on your tongue. She should dwell in the heart and the Āgyā Chakra. Some may feel spiritual figures are always portrayed as male, but even men cannot succeed without Sarasvatī. She is the goddess for anyone speaking, singing, or writing, honored immediately after Gaṇeśa. Gaṇeśa represents the intellect and is swift and protective. Sarasvatī is the wisdom and light of that intellect; you must trust your intellect, as it is your protection. Sarasvatī is a great divine being, the equal companion of Brahmā the creator, just as Lakṣmī is with Viṣṇu and Pārvatī with Śiva. They are the same, not one superior to the other. Your writing is the physical form of your thoughts; it holds immense power to affect humanity. Therefore, one must pray that the hand is merely an instrument for what is real to be written. Traditionally, great writers attributed their work to destiny, not themselves, and sought forgiveness for any unintended harm. The pen, or Kalam, is considered the world's most powerful force, which we now call the media—the movement of the pen. The principle remains the same whether using a pen or a computer. The origin of all creation is the sound Oṁ. Two powers exist: the negative and the positive. The quest is to weaken the negative and strengthen the positive. Physical, mental, and willpower are insufficient; strength must come from the spiritual source. This source is the creative sound. Techniques were discovered to access this power. Words hold immense creative and destructive force, as seen in human language. Every word is a potential mantra, capable of causing happiness or deep wounding. A blessing is a mantra of positive power originating from the heart and spiritual knowledge. "Every single word has such a huge power and so much meaning that we could talk about it for years." A human can be medicine for another. My early teaching involved a diplomat's wife who brought candies, declaring a miracle: after three weeks of yoga, her husband changed positively. I was happy for her, but in reality, she had changed, becoming calm instead of hectic. This illustrates "Be the change you want to see," which applies in all life aspects, including for partners. I wish for you a good person for mutual happiness. People endure stressful work and harsh words for money, which in this age is treated as God. From this dispiriting struggle, you return home yearning for a nest with kind words, a sweet smile, and understanding—a human heart. A partner is not solely for sexual life, which may be the least priority; you need understanding for a happy life. Those home hours should bring immense energy, happiness, confidence, and love, enabling better work and happiness the next day. This defines true partnership or family relationship. The search for God is a search conducted by ignorance, for no separation exists. We have lost the divine reality, though it is our own true nature. To speak of this is considered madness by a world intoxicated by attachment. This intoxication, like a drug placed in a village well, clouds the perception of all. It creates a false sense of separation and qualities that obscure the truth. Removing this attachment reveals the underlying reality. The search ends when the intoxication ceases. The universe is endless, and to know it, you must merge with it. Creation encompasses all that exists within boundless space. The individual is limited, while the absolute is limitless. To comprehend this infinity, one must fully immerse oneself within it, just as a salt statue dissolves in the ocean to know its depth. The seeker who dives into this endless reality becomes one with it and does not return separately. This ultimate reality is without form, color, or end. It is the fundamental womb of all consciousness. "To this day, it has not returned. What happened? The statue, being made of salt, melted." The world's changing nature makes it ultimately unreal, while the unchanging essence within all is the only true reality. Brahman, the everlasting truth, is equally present everywhere, like the sky. What is born or created has limitation and will end; therefore, the changeable is unreal. This essence within you, me, and every atom is unborn and will not die. Individual qualities define a person as a thief, saint, or criminal, but the inner essence remains the Supreme. The space in a hall is permanent, but the hall itself will be removed, illustrating the changing nature of all things. Yesterday is now like a dream; you cannot make the past present. Keep nourishing memories and forget terrorizing ones. Concentrate on your spiritual practice in the time that remains. Do not dwell on meals or comfort. Time is great, not man, and destiny is shaped by karma, so we must be mindful at every step. "Brahma satya, jagat mithyā." The Guru's glance, whether kind or angry, bestows grace that burns the disciple's karma. Eklavya, refused formal instruction, learned through devotion to a statue, receiving knowledge by grace. The Guru later tested his surrender by asking for his thumb, which Eklavya gave without hesitation. This symbolizes surrendering all attainment to the master. His immortality stems from this dedication, not his skill. Such confidence and surrender are needed in all relationships to build a strong society. Correct mistakes without hesitation. The mind creates the world of duality, and its attachments are the greatest obstacle to spiritual realization. Ved Vyāsa's son, Śukadeva Muni, possessed a consciousness free from duality. While passing a lake, bathing ladies felt no disturbance, seeing only Brahman in him. When Ved Vyāsa approached, they covered themselves. He questioned them, and they explained that he, though wise, still perceived the duality of male and female. This illustrates that our own thinking disturbs us. We generate feelings—love or hate—based on our mental constructs. This thinking mind has destroyed many yogis and saints, causing them to abandon their practice. Māyā seduces like a pleasing bullet or a Dracula bite, initially painful but then irresistibly addictive. "In the consciousness of Śukadeva Muni, there is no duality of male and female; he sees in everyone the Brahman." "How you think like that, you create the world. It is our mind which disturbs us." Prayer is a universal necessity for human survival and spiritual purification. All holy incarnations and saints across the world engage in prayer, which sustains the world. Prayer transforms a person and purifies the inner instrument—the mind, intellect, consciousness, and ego. Daily prayer keeps this inner instrument clean, leading to pure thoughts and actions. Even animals are said to sing God's name, so humans must pray or be worse. The specific religion or language does not matter; prayer must come from the heart, not the intellect, as heart-centered messages create unity while intellect-centered ones lead to conflict. One must make time for prayer regardless of busyness, as we would not want God to have no time for us. Prayer can be done during any activity, though a peaceful moment is ideal. It is the source of strength, protection, and liberation, with the mantra being its essence. The highest principle is non-violence and compassion toward all creatures. God is omnipresent, in every atom, which presents a dilemma for understanding. "Prayer comes first. Every religion has prayers, and prayer can be in any language, but it must come from the heart, not merely from the intellect, for the heart is paramount." True poverty is not a lack of material wealth, but a profound absence of inner peace. The nations considered rich and mighty are, in reality, the poorest because they live in constant fear. Their citizens cannot sleep soundly, attend public gatherings, or even travel by bus or visit large markets without anxiety. This pervasive state of insecurity defines their true condition. This fear exists because we create the divisions that lead to it. The foundational problem is a spiritual and societal separation. The external manifestations of fear are symptoms of this internal poverty. The claim of wealth is an illusion when the basic human need for safety and peace is unmet. The material abundance cannot compensate for this fundamental lack. The child waits, signifying not your ruler, but another. "Because we make the difference." "The child waits. Observing Śivarātri involves specific rituals of fasting, prayer, and offering. Fast on the day before the festival. In the evening, perform Śiva āratī and chant His name. If you have a Śivaliṅgam, perform an abhiṣeka by pouring a mixture of milk and water over it. While doing this, repeat the Mahāmṛtyuñjaya Mantra 108 times. After the pūjā, you may consume the sanctified food offering. The instructions contain some practical ambiguities regarding the calendar date and procedural clarity. A parable illustrates the conflict between intellect and mind, leading to suffering through indulgence. The grandfather represents intellect, and the demanding child represents the mind. Each time the child desires something, like ice cream or chips, it threatens to expose the grandfather's mistake of buying a cheaper half-ticket for a child who actually requires a full fare. The grandfather, fearing a fine, repeatedly gives in to the demands to avoid exposure. This cycle symbolizes how the mind's desires force the intellect into compromises, creating a costly journey through successive births, which are like stations. We are aware of our mistakes but are not yet perfect in action. Therefore, we must follow the teachings of great saints to overcome the illusions of Māyā, which repeatedly hinders spiritual progress, and to understand the true purpose of human life beyond animal existence. The core mistake is celebrating a master's image while refusing to follow their direct command. A master with back pain ordered his disciple to step on him. The disciple refused, citing the master's holy body and his own sinful impurity, rejecting all practical solutions. The master concluded the disciple would not obey the Guru Vakya. We make the same error with spiritual figures, venerating their image while ignoring their teachings like "Thou shalt not kill." We fabricate narratives from our own weakness, desire, ambition, or ego. We suffer life after life due to such mistakes. There is no divine guarantee of human rebirth; the only universal law is karma: "Jaisā karegā, vaisā bharegā"—as you act, so you will receive. This life is given to correct ourselves. We must follow the Guru's word precisely; only then comes the Guru's grace, and liberation is under that grace. "You will only celebrate the photo of the master, but not follow what the master said."
