The fourth Sri Swami Maheshwarananda Festival of Spiritual Music (2/4)
7:00 - 7:38|Recorded on 6 Sep 2025
All power lies within. Strength of will and mind is essential for self-realization and to change the world. Weakness is death, so one must pull oneself together and rise up now. Meditation and high ideals must be faced directly, never abandoned, for this leads to salvation and reveals one's true nature. An inner fire must burn to reach the goal; without it, one cannot ascend. A constant stream of conscious strength must always flow.
"All powers lie within you, so start to rise up now and work it out."
"Without fire, you will never get higher. If your heart does not burn, your life will never turn."

The path of spiritual practice leads to liberation, and the company of truth bestows supreme joy.
Engage in spiritual practice with love for the divine. This practice is the means to liberation. The first type of practice involves discrimination and truth. The second is motivated by desire for heavenly rewards. The third is the practice of renouncing wealth, which leads to bliss. Even a small, ego-driven practice is merely a shadow of true liberation. The assembly of truth, satsaṅga, is glorious. In it, word-essences resound, and heart meets heart. This communion transforms base metal into gold and grants the highest bliss. The light of the guru dispels inner darkness, igniting the latent spiritual force. Through grace, all bondage is severed.
"Engage in spiritual practice with love for the divine, for through that comes liberation."
"In the company of truth, one attains the highest bliss."

Preparation for advanced postures
9:05 - 10:00

From: 9 Jul 2016
Preparing the body and mind is essential for Kriyānuṣṭhāna. Discipline is required, not all must perform advanced postures like a handstand. A foundational requirement is the ability to sit motionless for a minimum of one hour, cultivating kāya-sthairyam for a steady mind. Physical preparation over a year is needed, focusing on postures like the half and full butterfly to increase flexibility in the hamstrings and hips. Practice must be done correctly, prioritizing the quality of movement over quantity. The goal is to coordinate body and breath, leading to awareness and inner experience. Yoga integrates body, breath, and mind for peace and harmony.
"Now yoga begins with anuśāsanam, which means discipline. No discipline, no success."
"Our mind is like water in our body. When you move your body, your mind also moves."

The personal mantra is the essential thread of spiritual practice.
Mantra is the thread that holds all spiritual pearls together; without it, they scatter. It is the breath and soul of practice, a torchlight in darkness. Spiritual awakening begins with an inner thirst, leading one to practice. Initial confusion gives way to relaxation and growing interest in deeper practices. However, comparing teachings or oneself to idealized figures creates conflict and loss of confidence. Ancient stories and knowledge provide timeless evidence and motivation; they are ever-young. Jñāna Yoga is the yoga of wisdom and self-knowledge, but without realization, one remains in imagination. Its four principles are viveka (discrimination), vairāgya (dispassion), the sixfold treasure (śama, dama, etc.), and mumukṣutva (the desire for liberation). Viveka discerns reality from unreality. Vairāgya renders all worldly enjoyments tasteless. Realizing the inner treasures brings true richness. The sincere aspirant seeks freedom from worldly troubles. This practice leads the soul to liberation.
"Mantra is like a thread in this mālā. It is that thread which keeps all the pearls together."
"Brahmanandam param sukhadam kevalam jñānamūrtim. The supreme bliss is a form of knowledge only."

Awakening of real kundalini

From: 1 Aug 2008
Kuṇḍalinī Śakti is the universal energy present in every atom of the cosmos, inseparable from universal consciousness. This divine energy animates all existence, from stars to every creature. Within each being, it manifests as the vital force flowing through 72,000 channels, with major energy centers called cakras. A genuine awakening brings profound harmony, happiness, and balance to body and mind. Misguided techniques produce only physical symptoms, not true awakening. This energy can guide one toward higher awareness or toward negative states like anger, depending on the environment and one's discipline. Faithful practice, mantra, and positive company purify and direct this energy. The goal is a balanced union of cosmic energy and cosmic consciousness within.
"Śiva and Śakti are not understood in terms of physical form, nor in the sense of male-female attraction, but as pure consciousness and pure energy."
"The awakening of the Kuṇḍalinī is like a beautiful, pleasant, harmonious, steady feeling."
